Chapter 66 My Son's Excellent Essay

"As the sun set, my grandfather, father, and I boarded the bus back home. Through the window, we gazed at the village shrouded in the evening glow. Wisps of smoke rose from the chimneys, echoing the setting sun on the horizon. The beautiful sunset over my hometown was like a lightly sketched ink painting, forever etched in my heart."

Feng Qifan stood on the classroom podium and read aloud the composition he had written that evening at his grandparents' house after returning to the village with his father.

After a brief silence, Yao Baozhu led the students in applauding Feng Qifan.

Hearing the applause from his classmates and seeing their gazes on him, Feng Qifan felt extremely excited. He went from being nervous during the recitation to becoming confident all at once.

After the applause from the students, Teacher Yan also clapped and applauded for Feng Qifan.

Then Teacher Yan told Feng Qifan to go back to his seat.

Then, standing on the podium, Teacher Yan said with a smile, "Feng Qifan just read his composition. Do you all think his composition is beautifully written?"

The students in the class immediately shouted in unison, "Beautiful!"

Teacher Yan said, "Yes, it's beautiful. This is something I've always told you. When writing essays, you need to have genuine feelings. You must put your emotions into your words. When your emotions are there, beautiful words will naturally come out."

On Saturday evening, Feng Qifan wrote this essay on his grandfather's desk.

Then he read it to his grandfather and father.

Afterwards, his grandfather and father gave him some advice, and he made some serious revisions.

On Monday, he handed in the revised essay as his weekend homework.

To Feng Qifan's surprise, Teacher Yan gave his essay a high score and made him read it aloud in front of the whole class.

What Feng Qifan didn't know was that it wasn't just Teacher Yan who liked his essay; several other teachers liked it too.

Even several of the older language arts teachers thought this composition was very well written.

The essay describes the village as seen through the eyes of a child in the city.

Although it contains many descriptions of backward villages, from a child's perspective, those seemingly backward places have a unique kind of childlike charm.

The most charming and childlike part of the composition is a long and detailed description of shrimp fishing.

After watching it, many teachers couldn't help but reminisce about their own childhood experiences.

The ending description of a rural scene at sunset evokes a feeling of truly witnessing a traditional Chinese ink painting of the setting sun and rising smoke.

The teachers in the office praised the essay highly in front of Teacher Yan after reading it.

Teacher Yan naturally earned the envy of many teachers because of this essay.

This is also what makes Teacher Yan feel very satisfied.

Combined with Feng Haidong's previous article on teacher ethics, and especially the one he later saw in Reader's Digest, Teacher Yan now finds Feng Qifan increasingly pleasing to the eye.

When the bell rang, Teacher Yan called Feng Qifan to her office alone.

"Feng Qifan, your essay is very well written. The teacher wants to recommend it for the school's outstanding essays list. It will be posted on the bulletin board at the school gate later. So take the essay back and carefully rewrite it. Remember to write your words neatly, okay?"

Upon hearing Teacher Yan's words, Feng Qifan said excitedly, "Teacher Yan, I know, I will definitely copy it carefully."

Teacher Yan nodded, then took out school letter paper from her drawer: "Use this paper to copy. I'll give you a few extra sheets. Make sure you copy it carefully when you get home, and make sure your handwriting is neat."

Feng Qifan took the letter from Teacher Yan and earnestly agreed, "I know, Teacher Yan, I promise to copy it carefully."

At this moment, another teacher in the office said with a smile, "Feng Qifan has made great progress recently, but he can't be complacent. He still needs to keep working hard, you know?"

Then another teacher said, "That's right, Feng Qifan, don't let your homeroom teacher down."

Seeing that the teachers were all smiling kindly at him, Feng Qifan said earnestly, "Teachers, I will work hard."

Teacher Yan nodded and said, "There's also the Children's Day performance. You need to prepare well. There's only one week left, so you have to perform well then."

Feng Qifan readily agreed and promised to work hard.

After giving the instructions, Teacher Yan told Feng Qifan to go back to the classroom first.

After Feng Qifan left, the teachers in the office immediately started discussing him.

"Feng Qifan has made really good progress recently. I didn't realize before, Teacher Yan, that there was such a talented student in your class."

"Yes, his math grades have improved rapidly during this period as well."

"Key personnel seem to have become more confident. It seems that Teacher Yan is a very effective teacher."

When Teacher Yan heard the other teachers praising him, he smiled and said, "It's because the child knows how to work hard. Maybe the previous events motivated him, so the child suddenly understood."

Teacher Yan was well aware that all of this was probably closely related to Feng Haidong.

Actually, after being forced to apologize to the students that time...

Teacher Yan had been holding a grudge and even considered making things difficult for Feng Qifan at school, or simply ignoring him altogether.

But Teacher Yan never expected that Feng Haidong would actually write such an article in the newspaper.

And Feng Qifan did indeed live up to expectations, his performance at school improved more and more.

Even though Teacher Yan tried many times to find fault, he felt that he couldn't find anything wrong with it.
