Chapter 235 The Ups and Downs of the Workplace

"Shake your mother's head!" Ma Yonghong cursed directly.

Ma Guoqing was stunned, realizing that his father was truly angry.

He used to get scolded by his father, but his mother had been gone for twenty years, and his father never implicated her when he scolded him.

Ma Yonghong sighed and said, "Guoqing, with a brain like yours, Yonghong will be defeated by you after I die."

"No!" Ma Guoqing said urgently, "Dad, you said that sooner or later, we would be eaten up by Wang Peng."

“In that case, we should kill Wang Peng as soon as possible to prevent him from devouring us,” Ma Guoqing added.

"Kill him?" Ma Yonghong shook his head. "His reputation has spread far and wide; he can't be killed anymore."

"What should we do then?" Ma Guoqing asked even more anxiously. "Dad, we can't just sit here and wait to die, can we?"

Ma Yonghong chuckled and said with a smile, "I'll give you six words: If you can't beat them, join them. You'll experience it for yourself."

After saying that, he waved his hand, lay down on the chair, and closed his eyes to rest.

Ma Guoqing hurriedly walked out of the office, his steps heavy and his brows furrowed.

"If you can't beat them, join them?"

He shook his head and said in a deep voice, "Does Dad want to invest in his brothers and not put all his eggs in one basket?"

However, the current sister store is very small, and Wang Peng has sufficient funds, so it is impossible for him to accept investment or equity participation.

"I'm not going to think about it anymore, let's just take it one step at a time." Ma Guoqing went to the purchasing department to expedite the formulation of a plan to purchase Sanhua liquor.

...

Kenneth Ma walked down the street, and when he reached a secluded spot, he shed tears again.

My wife has leukemia and has to take medication all the time, so she can't work at all. Our two children are in junior high school.

If I can't find a suitable job, my wife and children will have to die.

He felt increasingly upset and slapped himself hard. He was fired by his boss for saying the word "shrimp" too quickly, which was considered taboo.

Ma Guoming felt abandoned by the whole world. Suddenly, he smelled the aroma of meat, looked up, and saw the sign for Brothers Tobacco and Liquor Store.

"Brothers Tobacco and Liquor Store? Boss Wang Peng?"

He gritted his teeth, turned around and walked into the store, smiling as he said, "Hello beautiful, are you still hiring?"

Dong Shishi was taken aback. This person's eyes were already red from crying, and his right cheek was obviously swollen. Shouldn't he go to the hospital for a check-up first?

Ma Guoming said eagerly, "Miss, I've worked in administrative procurement at Yonghong for six years. I can help Boss Wang."

"Oh, I'll go upstairs and call the boss." Dong Shishi poured him a cup of tea, then turned and went upstairs.

Ma Guoming started to get nervous, fearing that Wang Peng wouldn't hire anyone, and stared intently at the stairwell.

A moment later, Dong Shishi came downstairs. "The boss is waiting for you upstairs."

"Thank you, beautiful lady, thank you, beautiful lady." Ma Guoming breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly quickened his pace to go upstairs.

A dining table was set up in the living room on the second floor, and large shrimp were cooking in an electric cooker. When he saw the orange-yellow shrimp, he felt a pang of sadness.

Two men and a woman were sitting at the table. He recognized Wang Peng at a glance and quickly bowed, "Hello, Mr. Wang, my name is Ma Guoming."

"Oh? Haven't we met before?" Wang Peng said with a smile.

I think I met him briefly on my way to Yonghong Supermarket. He also had a long face at the time.

Li Mingzhu handed him a pair of chopsticks. "You haven't eaten yet, have you? Sit down and we can eat and chat."

Du Lei got up and went into the kitchen to get him a small plate. With all the tableware ready, it would be impolite not to eat.

So he sat down next to Du Lei and carefully picked up a large shrimp.

Wang Peng asked, "What position do you hold at Yonghong?"

Kenneth Ma hurriedly put down his chopsticks and said with a forced smile, "I am the Director of Administrative Procurement, mainly responsible for purchasing goods."

Wang Peng was taken aback, thinking to himself that this was a talented person.

Supermarkets offer thousands of different kinds of goods; if someone didn't have real expertise, they couldn't have done purchasing for six years.

"Director Ma, why did you leave Yonghong?" Wang Peng asked.

A hint of resentment flashed in Ma Guoming's eyes as he hurriedly recounted the whole story.

After a long silence, he said helplessly, "I got slapped and lost my job because I said the word 'shrimp'."

Wang Peng and the other two stared intently at him, making his scalp tingle.

Suddenly, Li Mingzhu burst out laughing, and Du Lei laughed too.

His face flushed red, and he lowered his head, not daring to speak.

Wang Peng said, "You might not believe it, but Ma Yonghong ordered this shrimp hot pot. He asked Liu Xiang to deliver the shrimp to my restaurant."

"Huh?" Ma Guoming's eyes widened in disbelief.

"Mr. Ma, do you know why this is?" Wang Peng asked with a smile.

"Because you have the ability!" Ma Guoming said urgently, "Yonghong's removal of Sanhua from the shelves led to a decline in liquor sales, and he was in a hurry."

Wang Peng nodded and chuckled softly.

"I originally asked him to treat me to shrimp hot pot, but he ordered takeout for me instead, which means I'm not good enough."

"If he's strong enough, I'll make him cook for me himself. Even if I want his wife, he'll have to send her to my bed."

He was immediately kicked in the foot, and Li Mingzhu rolled her eyes at him.

Kenneth Ma nodded emphatically in agreement.

He felt that these words were very domineering, but that was the truth. Now Ma Yonghong needed Wang Peng's Sanhua wine.

After a moment, he said again, "Boss Wang, could you give me a job? My wife has leukemia, and my two children are in junior high school."

Upon hearing this, all three stared at him.

Leukemia is a terminal illness. Ma Yonghong dismissed an employee with a terminally ill relative because of the word "shrimp," which is indeed unethical.

“Isn’t this a literary inquisition?” Wang Peng shook his head. “You’re here to work for me, but you need to remember one thing.”

Kenneth Ma immediately became extremely alert.

"Don't be nervous," Wang Peng said with a smile. "I don't work overtime myself, and I don't make my employees work overtime. That's my zero-tolerance policy."
