Chapter 475 Alzheimer's Disease

Wang Peng called his bodyguards, went to the James Bond headquarters, picked up Li Mengjiao, and went to the provincial capital's No. 1 nursing home.

In a large courtyard, there were countless wheelchairs, and an elderly person was sitting in each wheelchair.

Their hair was gray, and most of them had their heads down, looking listless. Wang Peng walked past them, but they didn't even bother to glance at him.

The nurse, a middle-aged woman in a white coat and black leather shoes, pointed to a wheelchair in the corner: "Mr. Wang, that's her."

A wheelchair sat quietly in the corner. Wang Peng looked at the person in the wheelchair and couldn't believe his eyes.

Li Guifen lowered her head, her hair was almost completely white, her eyes were sunken and lifeless, and her face was covered with wrinkles.

Wang Peng stared intently at him, confirming again and again that this was indeed Li Guifen. But Li Guifen was only fifty-four years old, while the woman before him looked at least seventy-four.

"Mengjiao, is this her?" Wang Peng asked in a low voice.

"Yes, it's her." Li Mengjiao sighed softly and said in a low voice, "She must have suffered a lot; she looks haggard."

Just then, Li Guifen slowly raised her head and looked blankly at Wang Peng and Li Mengjiao.

Wang Peng walked over to him and put the plastic bag on the ground. The bag contained snacks such as biscuits, bread, and instant noodles.

He took another fifty yuan from his pocket and stuffed it into Li Guifen's pocket. Turning to leave, he heard Li Guifen say, "Hungry...hungry..."

Wang Peng stopped in his tracks. He wanted to stride away, but a voice inside him kept shouting, "She is, after all, your birth mother. She was indeed very bad to you and abused you in the past. But she has already been punished for her current behavior. Can you bear to let her fend for herself?"

The voice repeated itself over and over, morally blackmailing him. He slowly clenched his fist and looked up at the sky.

Li Mengjiao sighed softly, picked up a bowl of instant noodles, went to the guard room next door, borrowed hot water to soak the instant noodles, and then put in a few hams.

Two minutes later, she squatted down next to the wheelchair and fed Li Guifen instant noodles with a fork.

Wang Peng grabbed her wrist and took the instant noodle bowl from her hand: "Let me do it."

He forked a clump of instant noodles and held it to Li Guifen's lips. Li Guifen didn't open her mouth; she just stared straight at him.

"Aren't you hungry?" Wang Peng put down his instant noodles, picked up a piece of sausage with his fork, and put it to Li Guifen's mouth.

Li Guifen's lips trembled as she slowly opened her mouth, took a bite of the sausage, and still stared intently at Wang Peng.

"Brother Peng, she...she seems to be mentally unstable," Li Mengjiao said softly.

Wang Peng turned to look at her, but didn't say anything.

Li Mengjiao added, "It looks like Alzheimer's disease. Should we go to the hospital for a checkup?"

Alzheimer's? Wang Peng's heart skipped a beat, and he asked urgently, "Are you sure?"

"Brother Peng, don't be nervous," Li Mengjiao said softly. "I think her mental state is like that of someone with Alzheimer's."

Wang Peng nodded and continued to feed Li Guifen instant noodles.

After finishing a bowl of instant noodles and a sausage, Li Guifen remained silent throughout, her eyes dull and lifeless, like those of a dead fish.

He took out his phone and called Du Lei. After the call connected, he got straight to the point: "Contact an expert professor who treats Alzheimer's disease and have him come to the First Nursing Home for a consultation."

Du Lei said urgently, "I'll go to the hospital to get a doctor right now. Brother Peng, don't worry."

"I'm not in a hurry." Wang Peng hung up the phone and dialed Wang Cheng's number.

The call went through, but no one answered. He called twice more, but Wang Cheng still didn't answer.

Li Mengjiao squatted down beside the wheelchair, tore open a piece of bread and fed it to Li Guifen: "Aunt Li, do you still recognize me? Do you recognize Wang Peng?"

Li Guifen remained silent, staring intently at Wang Peng, as if she had forgotten who Wang Peng was.

Wang Peng called Wang Xia and asked in a deep voice, "You know about Li Guifen living in a nursing home, right?"

Wang Xia sensed her brother's bad tone and immediately became nervous: "Brother, I know, I was just about to tell you that day."

"Yes!" Wang Peng said, "Have you been here to see her? Does he still recognize you?"

"No... I'm coming right now, brother, you wait here." Wang Xia hurriedly hung up the phone, grabbed her car keys, and ran downstairs.

In less than twenty minutes, she appeared in front of Wang Peng. She was also taken aback when she saw Li Guifen's appearance.

"Mom!" Wang Xia walked to the wheelchair and took Li Guifen's hand. "Mom, it's me, Wang Xia. Do you still recognize me?"

Li Guifen remained silent, her entire being like a walking corpse, devoid of any spirit or energy.

"Big brother, what's wrong with her?" Wang Xia came to Wang Peng's side and asked in a low voice.

“Your sister-in-law is suspected of having Alzheimer’s disease, and the doctor will be here soon.” Wang Peng shook his head slightly, feeling uneasy.

"Wang Cheng... that bastard Wang Cheng, he's not human, he's a beast!" Wang Xia cursed angrily.

Although Li Guifen wasn't good to Wang Xia either, she wasn't as extreme as she was towards Wang Peng.

When Wang Xia saw her own mother transformed into this state, neither human nor ghost, the hatred in her heart vanished.

"Brother, I know you're not available and don't have time to take care of her, so why don't I take her home?"

Wang Xia said earnestly, "Although I don't have much time, I can hire a few caregivers."

Hearing Wang Xia say this made Wang Peng feel much better.

He reached out and patted Wang Xia on the shoulder: "You just need to accompany and take care of him, and I will cover all the expenses."

Wang Xia nodded and took out her phone from her pocket: "Brother, find someone to take her to my house."

Just then, Wang Peng received a call from Du Lei. Du Lei said on the phone, "Brother Peng, I've already contacted Director Huang of the Psychiatry Department at the First People's Hospital. We just left the hospital..."

Wang Peng hurriedly said, "There's no need to come to the nursing home. Wang Xia is with me. We'll take her to Wang Xia's place right away."

Du Lei replied, "Okay, Brother Peng, I'll take Director Huang directly to Third Sister's house."

Wang Peng hung up the phone and went directly to the office to find the person in charge of the nursing home, explaining that he wanted to pick up Li Guifen from the hospital.

The hospital director, a middle-aged woman, knew Wang Peng's identity and therefore did not stop him, directly processing his discharge procedures.

The hospital director called over three caregivers to help Li Guifen pack her things and then helped her into the car.

After half an hour of trouble, we finally got Li Guifen home.

Du Lei and Director Huang have arrived. Without saying a word, Director Huang immediately began examining Li Guifen's body.

After a thorough examination, Director Huang shook his head: "Mr. Wang, the patient does indeed have Alzheimer's disease. However, I suspect that she was frightened, which triggered the Alzheimer's syndrome."

Wang Peng didn't understand any of this, so he asked, "Is there any possibility of a cure?"

"Yes, but the possibility is very small. You need to continue with injections and medication," Director Huang replied.

“Okay, I understand.” Wang Peng shook hands with him. “Please prescribe the medicine for me, and I’ll arrange for someone to give her the injection.”
