Chapter 21 The Crown Prince

Just as Li Chang'an was about to take out his Gatling gun and talk to Fatty Guo about physics.

A cry of surprise came from the third floor: "Brother Haoran, Brother Haoran..."

Zhang Jiadi stood on the third-floor railing, looking at Li Chang'an with a joyful expression.

Ta-da!

Zhang Jiadi, carrying his long robe, strode down and grabbed Li Chang'an's hand, complaining, "Brother Haoran, why did you leave without saying goodbye yesterday? I thought I would never see you again."

"Brother Yujie, it's my fault, it's my fault. I promised my fellow villagers yesterday that I would go to the city with them."

Li Chang'an subtly withdrew his hand; he really didn't like being too intimate with a man.

After Zhang Jiadi came down, a group of scholars dressed in long robes followed him down.

"Come, come, fellow colleagues, this is the hermit I met on the road yesterday."

Zhang Jiadi pointed to Li Chang'an and introduced him to everyone.

"He is indeed a handsome and talented man, with a refined and elegant appearance."

"Indeed, indeed! I never expected that there would be such a refined and elegant scholar in my Lingnan City."

"Truly a man of exceptional talent! That poem about limestone just now has resonated deeply with me."

A group of people showered Li Chang'an with praise.

After all, the Zhang family behind Zhang Jiadi was a powerful and influential family that existed before the founding of the Ming Dynasty, and one of the few remaining families of the Wensheng lineage.

Even if Zhang Jiadi brought out a dog, they would still praise him.

"Oh, Brother Haoran, has something happened to you?"

Zhang Jiadi only realized what was happening when he saw that there were armored soldiers at the entrance.

The atmosphere is off.

"Heh," the coachman didn't recognize Zhang Jiadi and his group, since they were wearing ordinary clothes, not official robes.

"Where did this bunch of poor scholars come from? Get out of here, or we'll take care of you all too."

Young Master Guo's expression turned serious. He recognized a few of the scholars in that group.

The officials were sent down from the capital, and they had never gotten along well with these local families from Lingnan.

Among the scholars, someone recognized Fatty Guo: "Isn't this the eldest son of the Guo family? What's wrong? Showing off in broad daylight?"

They, these officials from the capital, didn't even consider a city's defenses a threat.

After all, officials living near the capital city naturally look down on local officials.

Moreover, in terms of rank, some of them are even higher than Guo Pangzi's father, so why would they be afraid of Guo Pangzi?

Fatty Guo's face turned pale and then red. He pointed at the person who had spoken up and said, "This has nothing to do with you. I'm looking for these lowly people. You'd better not get involved."

“Then I’ll get involved.” Zhang Jiadi stepped forward, standing in front of Li Chang’an and shielding him behind him.

"Who do you think you are, daring to interfere in my affairs?" Fatty Guo's eyes were completely red with anger.

Being mocked several times in a row made him so angry that he almost lost control of himself.

Zhang Jiadi turned around and gestured to Zhang Yun.

"Who is my master? Open your dog eyes and see clearly." Zhang Yun took out an imperial edict and an imperial envoy's token from his bag.

"The imperial edict is here, as if His Majesty were here in person. Why don't you all pay your respects?" Zhang Jiadi held up the imperial edict and looked at the crowd with a solemn expression.

"Greetings to Your Majesty! Long live the Emperor!"

The scholars in the capital already knew of Zhang Jiadi's identity as the Imperial Envoy, and they all knelt on the ground to pay their respects.

Upon seeing this, the soldiers exchanged glances, then put down their weapons and knelt down.

Fatty Guo knelt on the ground, his face contorted with humiliation, his back teeth practically grinding to powder. His ferocious expression terrified the coachman behind him, who turned pale.

Oh no, I've kicked a hornet's nest. If I go back now, the young master will skin me alive.

The groom had only one thought in his mind.

If you're so awesome, why are you following a bunch of vagrants? What kind of path are you taking?

Li Chang'an didn't kneel. He held Su Xiao and stood straight, his eyes curiously looking at the imperial edict in Zhang Jiadi's hand.

I'd really like to know if the words "By the Mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decreed" are on it.

Zhang Jiadi looked at Guo Pangzi kneeling on the ground and asked, "May I intervene now?"

Fatty Guo gritted his teeth, making a grinding sound as he said, word by word, "Fine! You're high-ranking officials, you're all good!"

Guo Pangzi may bully others because of his power, but he doesn't like others bullying him.

He glared at Li Chang'an before turning to leave.

"Oh my, what a grand official's airs! What's this? His Majesty sent the Imperial Envoy to inspect the border, and now the Imperial Envoy is meddling in the internal affairs of my Lingnan City?"

A shrill, effeminate voice came from the doorway.

The officers and soldiers made way for the newcomers and saluted them.

"Greetings, Your Highness!"

Amidst the kneeling and bowing of the crowd, a man dressed in a brocade robe and wearing a golden crown walked in.

Several burly men followed behind him, one of whom was exceptionally tall and had a sharp gaze; he exuded a murderous aura just by standing there.

"Fatty Guo, how come you're getting worse and worse?" The effeminate voice was shrill, giving Li Chang'an goosebumps.

Young Master Guo was not angry at all after being scolded. Instead, he put on a smile and said to the effeminate man, "Your Highness, they are from the capital and have powerful backers. How could they possibly look down on a small family like ours?"

In the entire Lingnan region, only one person dared to call himself the Crown Prince, and that was Meng Xingyun, the only son of Meng Sanguan, the King of Lingnan.

Unfortunately, Meng Xingyun was born with a physical defect and could never have sex, which is why he has a sissy appearance.

"Useless!" Meng Xingyun also looked down on Fatty Guo. He was as fat as a pig and liked to take advantage of his father being the city gate guard to commit rape, plunder, and all sorts of evil deeds.
