Red squid, strictly speaking, is not actually a squid; it's just a common name that includes the word "squid." Its scientific name is *Squid chuatsi*.

Although squid and cuttlefish both belong to the class Cephalopoda, order Psittacomorpha, they belong to different families.

One belongs to the family Cuttlefish, and the other to the family Squid.

However, at first glance, the two look exactly alike, much like twins.

They are all cylindrical in shape with a pointed end, resembling the head of an ancient spear or a modern rocket.

However, upon closer inspection, there are still differences.

Squid belong to the order Oculomotoria. The outermost layer of their eyes is a transparent surface called the "pseudocornea," which has a small opening that connects to the outside world, hence the name "Oculomotoria."

Squid, on the other hand, have closed eyes; their pseudocorneas are sealed and do not communicate with the outside world.

This method of identification is a bit complicated for ordinary people, but there is an even simpler way: look at their fleshy fins.

The squid's fins are short and located at the end of its body, with the two fins touching to form a heart shape; the squid's fins are located on both sides of its body, in the posterior two-thirds of the body.

It is also worth noting that squid is more tender and has a better texture than cuttlefish, and its price is naturally much higher.

As a result, some unscrupulous merchants sell squid as cuttlefish, deceiving consumers.
