Transmigrated to the Great Ming Dynasty, I became Emperor Zhu Youxiao, the Carpenter Emperor. Well then, I'll hide behind the scenes; I'll take the blame, and you all go die.
So the perception is not very strong. Usually people just say that this sentence is well said, praise the work done well, and then that's it.
Just like Fan Zhongyan's saying "Worry about the world before you worry about yourself, and be happy about the world after you are happy about yourself", it has spread very widely. When people mention Fan Zhongyan, they will praise his character.
But what did Fan Zhongyan do?
He is a reformist! He wants to reform. What good is it if he has a good character?
Zhang Zai's situation is basically like this now. If you ask everyone, they will know what's going on. I've heard of this person, and I admire him as a great man, but what is so extraordinary about him?
It seems that what he said was "Establish a mind for heaven and earth."
The most important thing for a school of thought is to have its own ideas on the policy program. Zhang Zai did give his own ideas, but what were they?
It is to curb land annexation and restore the well-field system.
Who can stand this?
You tell this to the emperor, will he listen to you?
If this is really changed, the whole world will be in chaos!
Song Yingsheng and the other two were of course aware of the shortcomings of Guanxue, so they had to find a way to solve it.
Han Yu looked at the three people, thought for a moment, and said, "If that's the case, why don't you compile everything Mr. Zhang said, did, and recorded into a book?"
After hearing what Han Yu said, Song Yingsheng and the other two were shocked.
Isn’t Han Yu’s idea too crazy?
They have all witnessed how crazy Huang Kezun is, but they didn’t expect that you, Han Yu, would be so crazy too.
Are you going to die? Or are we going to die?
What is the most famous example of recording a teacher's every word and action, compiling it into a book, and publishing it?
No need to ask, it is "The Analects of Confucius".
Now, if they publish a book like this about Zhang Zai, is this an attempt to compare Zhang Zai to Confucius? This would become a joke and a target of public criticism!
To put it mildly, this is pure bullshit!
Zhang Zai was from the Song Dynasty. How many years have passed since then? His bones have rotted away. How much of his belongings are still there?
Even those that have survived are often out of date, which is problematic in itself.
Judging from what Han Yu meant, it's clear that he doesn't want us to really sort it out. If he really wanted to sort it out, he wouldn't have to talk to us like this. Han Yu is just trying to get us to make up stories!
Now Song Yingsheng and the other two understood Han Yu's intentions, which were much more ambitious than they could have imagined.
Originally, the three of them thought that Han Yu just wanted to use them and Guanxue to help him gain a foothold in the court and find a position.
But now it seems that this is not the case at all. Han Yu wants to create a discipline of his own.
Of course, if he really said that it was his own creation, Han Yu would be overestimating his own abilities and would become the target of public criticism!
So in this situation, Han Yu thought of another way, that is, to occupy the magpie's nest and lay eggs in the shell. After searching for a while, he set his sights on Guanxue.
Firstly, this school is not large, which makes it a very suitable school. Secondly, the number of people in this school is not large, which makes it relatively easy to control.
The most crucial point is that this school is a school of Neo-Confucianism, but it advocates the Easy Way, which is easier to manipulate and modify.
Han Yu actually had a general idea in his mind. What he had to do now was to get Song Yingsheng and the other two to agree.
After Han Yu said this, Song Yingsheng and the other two understood what he meant. While they were frightened by his boldness, they were also thinking about the feasibility of this matter. To put it bluntly, they were thinking about whether this matter could succeed.
If we really want this to succeed, Han Yu's support alone is definitely not enough.
Song Yingsheng and the other two remained silent, their faces expressionless. They simply couldn't muster a positive attitude.
If they were asked to stand on Han Yu's side politically and in terms of stance, there would be no problem. Even if they failed, they would just be dismissed from office and return home.
But what Han Yu has to do now is really too big. Judging from what he has shown now and the promises he has made to them, it is not worth it for everyone to pay so much for him.
Han Yu seemed to have read the thoughts of Song Yingsheng and the other two. He slowly said, "The imperial court's imperial examination guidelines have been released. I believe they will be announced to the world in a few days. By that time, there will be no room for recovery. All the commotion now will have been in vain."
"Since the imperial examination curriculum has been changed, shouldn't the Confucius Temple also be changed? I think Zhang Zai can be considered a sage and can be included in the Confucius Temple. What do you think?
Song Yingsheng and the other two looked at each other.
This was the new condition Han Yu offered them. He would raise Zhang Zai's status and allow him to enter the Confucius Temple, which was a good thing for them.
The entry into the Confucius Temple mentioned here is definitely not the same as the original one, otherwise there would be no need to mention it.
In the Confucius Temple, there is a kind of treatment called "sharing the Confucius Temple". The east wing of the Confucius Temple is where Confucius' outstanding disciples, wise scholars of all dynasties and Confucian gods are enshrined. All the wise men recognized throughout history have their seats there.
The so-called East Veranda refers to the building to the east of the Dacheng Hall in the Confucius Temple, which is dedicated to the enshrinement of tablets. The buildings on the east and west sides of the Dacheng Hall are called the "Two Verandas," where later generations enshrined sages and Confucian scholars.
These virtuous Confucian scholars who were honored were mostly famous figures in the Confucian school of later generations, such as Wen Zhongzi, Cheng Hao, Zhang Zai, Shao Yong, Dong Zhongshu, Han Yu, Wang Yangming, etc.
