Reuniting with My Ex-Boyfriend at a Wedding

A friend of Xu Yanfeng met an acquaintance at a hotel.

That acquaintance was none other than Xu Yanfeng's girlfriend from university, who was now a thing of the past.

The two greete...

Chapter 227 Forget It All

Even though her brain was empty and she was about to die, Xia Xi still heard Xu Yanfeng's voice. It seemed to come from a distant place, echoing and hitting her eardrum word by word.

"I don't want to see you again. Never show up in front of me."

Xu Yanfeng left.

Now that he was gone, it was naturally impossible for his childhood friends to stay here.

Fu Liluo was the last one to fall. She turned around and glanced at Xia Xi with an indecipherable expression. The pain on her face was so obvious. Tears rolled down her cheeks and her body was shaking. There was no sense of pleasure in getting rid of Xu Yanfeng at all.

According to what she said, she didn't like Xu Yanfeng very much. Shouldn't she feel relieved if she could break up with him as she wished?

Why are you so sad?

Fu Li always felt that something was strange. Maybe there was some hidden secret, or maybe he didn't believe in his heart that Xia Xi was the kind of person who would easily fall in love with another woman.

He didn't have time to think about it and strode out.

Xu Yanfeng was no longer visible in the corridor. As the elevator closed, Ling Yan's voice sounded urgent: "A Feng!"

Ling Yan chased after him, wanting to comfort Xu Yanfeng, but she was wearing high heels and couldn't walk fast. Before she could touch the corner of Xu Yanfeng's clothes, the elevator began to descend. She pressed a button, and another one opened.

Fu Li was worried about Xu Yanfeng, fearing that he would have an accident while driving in sadness and anger.

Ling Yan entered the elevator, and Fu Li followed closely behind.

With someone else around, Ling Yan had to control her expression, pretending to be worried. But in reality, she was more excited than worried about Xu Yanfeng. Xu Yanfeng's sadness was temporary; he would eventually move on and embrace new love. She was happy that Xia Xi had finally left Xu Yanfeng's world.

As the elevator descended, Ling Yan said to Fu Li, "Xia Xi was truly outrageous. He was so capable of cheating on me, and Xu Yanfeng saw it with his own eyes. This must have been a huge blow to him. To say it was a profound humiliation wouldn't be an exaggeration."

Fu Li didn't agree with her, but just said, "Don't mention it in front of Xu Er later."

Ling Yan said awkwardly, "I know."

The elevator arrived at the underground parking lot. Fortunately, it arrived in time and Xu Yanfeng had not left yet and had just gotten into the car.

Fu Li ran over in two steps, opened the driver's door, pulled the gloomy-faced Xu Yanfeng out, pushed him into the back seat, and drove.

Fu Li was glad that he didn't drink alcohol that night.

Ling Yan got into the car from the other side and sat next to Xu Yanfeng, staring at his face. She wanted to comfort him, but she felt that any words would be pale and powerless at this moment. She pursed her lips and sighed.

Fu Li started the engine, drove out of the parking lot, and asked calmly, "Where do you want to go?"

Xu Yanfeng didn't answer, so Fu Li took the initiative and drove him around.

*

In the box, Xia Xi seemed to hear a "bang" and his heart fell straight to the ground and shattered into pieces.

Tears kept flowing like a dam bursting. She raised her hand to wipe them away, but they were nowhere to be seen. The skin on her face was rubbed red by her sleeves and it hurt like needles.

There was no one else in the room, so Zhou Du dropped his pretense and walked over to Xia Xi, placing his large hand on her trembling shoulders. "Are you okay?"

As soon as the words came out of his mouth, Zhou Du realized that his question was nonsense. He frowned and regretted it. How could she be fine?

Xia Xi slowly turned her head, looked at him, and burst into laughter.

It's over, it's all over.

Zhou Du couldn't find words to comfort her. He sighed and gently patted the back of her head and shoulders to calm her trembling. The most difficult step had been taken, and what remained was the long process of healing.

It will be fine.

Even Zhou Du, a grown man, had tears in his eyes: "Alright, alright, it's all over."

Xia Xi wanted to leave, but her feet seemed to be nailed to the ground, unable to move. She clenched her fingers around the clothes in front of her and slowly squatted down, curling herself into a ball.

After an unknown amount of time, she finally stopped crying. Her legs were numb and her throat was hoarse as if it was rubbed on sandpaper. "Zhou Du, go drink with me. I really want to get drunk and forget all this."

Zhou Du: "Okay, I'll drink with you, you can drink as much as you want."

As long as she can still make requests, it means there is still hope. I'm just afraid that she will have no thoughts at all, and that would be really scary.

Zhou Du bent down, held her thin arm, pulled her up from the ground, half dragged and half supported her away, leaving this flashy and dreamlike place and returning to the bustling world.

Zhou Du often hangs out with friends and takes her there when he knows where there are quiet bars.

When they arrived at the place, he got out of the car, walked around to the passenger seat, and opened the door for Xia Xi.

Xia Xi pushed his hand away: "I can do it myself."

To prove she was fine, she jumped out of the car holding onto the seat back, looked around, and found the entrance to the bar.

There is a bright blue sign with black artistic fonts that says "Go forward". There are four steps in front of the door, and there are light boxes installed on the steps. When you step on them, a blue arrow will light up, pointing inside.

Xia Xi forced a smile and pointed to the bar sign overhead. She said to Zhou Du, "See? It's telling me that people should move forward and not look back. No one will turn back."

Zhou Du was at a loss for words, unable to come up with anything philosophical or beautiful. He hummed and repeated her words: "Go forward, don't look back."

The bitter smile on Xia Xi's lips turned into a silly smile, and he stepped onto the stairs.

She was staggering, looking drunk even though she hadn't drunk any alcohol. Zhou Du wanted to help her up, fearing she would fall, but she shook her head and refused, saying, "I can walk on my own."

Just two seconds after she finished speaking, she fell down.

Zhou Du reached out his hand but failed to catch her. Her right knee hit the edge of the stairs hard, and she cried out in pain. Sweat broke out on her forehead, and the tears that had finally stopped burst out again.
