A friend of Xu Yanfeng met an acquaintance at a hotel.
That acquaintance was none other than Xu Yanfeng's girlfriend from university, who was now a thing of the past.
The two greete...
Xia Yue didn't say much to Chen Songbai, and took Youyou's hand and walked into the elevator.
Youyou got up early and put on a newly bought floral skirt. The hem of the skirt was puffy and particularly cute. She also loved to show off, and she couldn't help jumping around so that the hem of her skirt would swing and look even more puffy.
Seeing that Xia Yue was in a bad mood, she stood quietly beside her.
When the elevator reached the first floor, Youyou couldn't help but ask, "What happened to my uncle-in-law? And my aunt, is she feeling unwell? Is she feeling better?"
Xia Yue threw the rubbish into the trash can outside the corridor door. Adult matters were too complicated for children to understand. Even she, an adult, didn't quite understand them, so naturally, she couldn't explain them clearly to the little girl.
"I don't know either." Xia Yue said.
"Then go ask mom. Mom knows everything. She is amazing." Youyou said in childish words.
Xia Yue was stunned for a moment before realizing that the "mom" she was referring to was Xia Xi.
She also thought about calling Xia Xi and asking her if she had any good way to find out what happened to Xia Xuan and her husband, but she hesitated: "Xixi is busy at work, especially today, Monday, so it wouldn't be nice to disturb her."
Youyou said innocently, "It's okay."
Xia Yue smiled and took her to Chen Ji to pack two pan-fried buns. She also bought Youyou an oven-baked egg-filled pancake, which she ate with both hands.
The cell phone rang. Xia Yue changed her hand to hold something, took out her cell phone and saw that it was Xia Xi calling. She quickly answered the call.
"Sister, I called Xuanxuan but no one answered. Do you know what happened?" There was a car horn coming from Xia Xi's side. She was on her way to work and was riding in Xu Yanfeng's car.
Youyou recognized who was on the phone and looked up at Xia Yue: "It's mom, tell her quickly."
It seemed like she couldn't hide it anymore. Xia Yue sighed and said, "After you left last night, Xuanxuan went back home. Not long after, she came back and just cried. She refused to say anything. Later, Chen Songbai chased her, but she refused to see him either. The two of them are still in a stalemate..."
Xia Yue told her what she knew.
Xia Xi listened quietly and asked, "Didn't Chen Songbai tell me the reason?"
Xia Yue: "When I left home this morning, I ran into him standing guard outside the door. I asked him what happened, but he kept silent and just told me to take good care of Xuanxuan. This guy is really unreliable."
After knowing Xia Xuan's whereabouts, Xia Xi felt relieved, but when she heard her say that, her heart began to lift again.
After thinking for a moment, Xia Xi said slowly, "I have two important meetings today and can't leave for the time being. Please keep an eye on Xuanxuan and don't let her get into trouble. I'll come over to check on her later."
Xia Yue: "Okay, you're busy, don't worry, I'm at home."
Xia Xi threw her cell phone into her bag, put her hands on the bag, and frowned. She had a premonition yesterday, but her mind was all on meeting the parents and she couldn't spare any more energy to ask about it. She didn't expect that something would happen so soon.
Xu Yanfeng listened to some of the conversation between her and Xia Yue. He placed his palm on the back of her hand and gently stroked it. "What happened to your sister?"
"I don't know yet." Xia Xi was so worried that she had no mood to work. "My sister said Xuanxuan went home last night, and then went back to my mom's. When I asked her, she didn't say anything and just kept crying. That damn Chen Songbai didn't say anything either. If he really did anything to hurt Xuanxuan, I'll teach him a lesson."
"Don't be angry, we're at the company." Xu Yanfeng looked out the window and saw the office building right in front of him.
Xia Xi calmed down, leaned over and kissed Xu Yanfeng on the lips: "Then I'll leave."
"Yeah." Xu Yanfeng curled his lips lightly, "I'll pick you up after get off work."
Xia Xi grabbed her bag and stepped out of the car, her high heels creating a sharp presence. Her long hair was tied in a low ponytail, and she'd tucked a strand of hair around a rubber band, so the band wasn't visible that it looked like a hair tie. She wore a white casual suit over a skirt, and with a slender figure, she swung through the glass door in the blink of an eye.
The phone rang, and Xu Yanfeng was forced to look away and answer the call: "Mom."
Zhong Yinghong's voice was unusually calm. Without any prelude, she announced the result of a night of thought: "I've made up my mind. I want to divorce your father."
Xu Yanfeng was silent. He was surprised by the result, but not that surprised.
He always knew that Zhong Yinghong only looked weak because she loved Xu Guanshan and was willing to give in to him in daily trivialities and put him first in everything. Once she discovered that there were unbearable flaws in their love, she would cut it off decisively no matter how painful it was.
"Okay." Xu Yanfeng respected all her decisions. "I'll help you contact a lawyer."
Their marriage has been complicated and involved for decades, so it is not easy to separate them.
"I'm sorry." Zhong Yinghong lost her composure, her voice trembling. "At this critical time when you and Xia Xi were about to get married, I gave you an incomplete family."
She had also thought about whether she should endure it a little longer and wait until her two children were married before considering divorcing Xu Guanshan, at least to save face. However, she couldn't bear it, not even for a day.
Xu Guanshan's parents are deceased, but her own parents are still alive, and she doesn't know how to broach the subject with them. Predictably, at her age, if she were to broach the subject of divorce, the elders would initially advise her against it, using excuses like "friction is inevitable in life."
She knew very well that some frictions could be ignored, but some frictions, once they occurred, could only lead to a breakup. For example, when Xu Guanshan cheated on her, even after many years, she still couldn't convince herself to pretend that nothing had happened and continue to live a loving life with him.
"Mom, don't say that. I just hope you can live a good life. Xia Xi won't care about these things." Xu Yanfeng paused and asked the question that had been lingering in his mind for a long time, "Will you blame me for keeping it a secret from you?"
