Jiang Ran's soul swapped with his parallel world self, and he arrived in a strange world of rules. Amidst rules that are hard to distinguish between true and false, and a succession of ill-inte...
January 16th, sunny.
Three months have passed since I was diagnosed with a terminal illness. According to the doctor, I have one year to live, so now I should only have seven months left. However, this number may fluctuate, either higher or lower.
It is foreseeable that in the later stages I may be bedridden and unable to move, let alone climb snow-capped mountains like I am now. However, I came here not just to see the scenery of nature, but also for something more important.
As evening fell, I quietly left the group and made my way to the other side of the snow mountain. There were 22 people like me, from all over the world, but without exception, they were all terminally ill patients!
Legend has it that deep in the snow-capped mountains there is a peak called "Mount of the Gods." It is said that as long as one can climb to the top of Mount of the Gods, one can find the mysterious power to cure all diseases. In the past, I would have scoffed at such a mysterious legend that only children would believe. Ironically, I am now standing here, in pursuit of this mysterious legend.
The organizer of the gathering was Boda Yugen from a European country. He listed many pieces of evidence that the Peak of God had existed. Some of the information in the list was true and some was false. What really brought the 22 people together was not this information, but the fact that they were all suffering from terminal illnesses. Even if they did not find the so-called Peak of God, it would still be a unique adventure for them.
Boda Yugen suggested that since the people present came from all over the world, did not speak the same language, and had very complicated names, it would be best for us to communicate in English. If anyone did not speak English, he was fluent in other languages, such as Chinese and French, and could act as their translator.
"It's best if we don't use our real names to communicate," said Boda Yugen. "Since there are 22 of us here, corresponding to the 22 cards of the Major Arcana in the Tarot, why don't we each choose a Tarot card as our code name?"
Boda Yugen chose "Emperor," and the remaining members also chose titles. I chose "World," partly because I wanted to see the world if I could find the Peak of God, and partly because I wasn't sure if this journey would be my last adventure. The world represents the end of the journey, doesn't it?
After a simple overnight camping trip at the foot of the snow-capped mountain, we will embark on our journey to find the Peak of the Gods the next day.
January 17th, cloudy.
The temperature seemed to have dropped considerably compared to yesterday, and some members of the team were already extremely weak. Mr. Emperor suggested that if anyone really couldn't hold on, they could quit now. But since they had chosen to come here, how could they back down at the last minute? Not a single person chose to quit.
We began our journey deeper into the snow-capped mountains. Miss Magician was just a 16-year-old girl. It's hard to imagine what a blow it must have been for her to be diagnosed with a terminal illness at such a young age. She was a very lively girl. She told me that she didn't have much hope for this journey, but she hoped to bring a perfect end to her life.
If she could, she would rather die on an adventure than in a hospital bed.
The Emperor reminded everyone again to conserve their food. He said that anyone who couldn't hold on any longer could quit at any time, but the danger would increase as they went on, because even if they decided to quit, they might not be able to leave the snow mountain.
No matter what happens, he will not give up; he will either find the legendary Peak of God or be buried in this snow-capped mountain.
His words were very heavy, and they subtly changed everyone's mindset. Perhaps some of us still have a playful attitude, thinking that this is just an ordinary adventure.
The Emperor's path became increasingly remote, prompting Mr. Justice to question it, as he had never seen this route on a map before and feared that continuing on might lead to unimaginable dangers.
The Emperor simply smiled dismissively.
"Do you really think that a path that can be found on a map can lead to the legendary Peak of God? Don't be naive. From the moment we entered the depths of the snow-capped mountains, this journey has been incredibly dangerous! It wouldn't be surprising if we died right there!"
Death? Actually, for everyone here, dying here would just be an early death, and perhaps not as unacceptable as they imagine.
January 18th, sunny.
The temperature seems to have warmed up a lot today, which has also improved my mood. The Emperor is a very capable person. Since yesterday, we have been taking detours along secluded paths, and now we don't even know where we are. Under his guidance, we haven't encountered any danger yet.
We gathered around the campfire, and Mr. Sun took out his tarot cards to tell us a horoscope. The result was the Sun in its upright position, which meant we would definitely succeed! The atmosphere in the team reached its peak.
However, I later peeked and discovered that all the tarot cards in Mr. Sun's hand were the Sun card. Perhaps he was just telling us not to give up hope, that we will eventually see the sun.
That night, a piece of news put everyone on edge.
Mr. Justice discovered a huge footprint in the snow ahead. It didn't look like a human footprint; it was even bigger than a bear's footprint!
"Could this be the legendary Yeti? Does such a creature really exist in the world?"
This was undoubtedly bad news for everyone. Even if all 22 of them joined forces, they wouldn't be able to deal with such a ferocious beast. Most of them were sickly and unable to exert the fighting power that a normal adult should have.
"At least we've confirmed the legend of the Yeti, so we can be considered qualified adventurers. If this legend is confirmed, then the legend of Mount God might also be true! If I can see the real Yeti before I die, then my life will be more exciting than most people's!"
The magician smiled and comforted everyone; her smile was infectious, and we spent the night with hope.
January 19th, heavy snow.
We were woken up by the cold around 2 a.m. The wind and snow around us were getting heavier and heavier, so we had to move to a new place. After two hours of trekking, Mr. Emperor led us to a cave, which was a small shelter from the wind and snow.
Many of the team members' conditions worsened during the snowstorm, and Miss Magician lost her usual enthusiasm, simply huddled in my arms. Fortunately, we still had plenty of food and water. Looking at Miss Magician's condition, I felt we should stay in the cave until the snowstorm stopped before continuing our journey.
The Emperor, however, thought differently. He told us to rest for an hour before continuing our journey, because snow and wind were the most important conditions for finding the Peak of God!
