Chapter 0053 Rescue

After finalizing the contract, the enthusiastic American client invited him and his team to a lawn dinner. He asked his team to stay and continue building rapport with the American company, while he booked the earliest flight back home, eager to return.

The American client was very understanding when he learned that his wife was about to give birth, and thoughtfully arranged for a driver to take him to the airport that evening.

On his way to the airport, he remembered that today was Ruyi's routine prenatal checkup. Looking at the time and considering the time difference, he estimated that it was almost over and was about to make a call home when his phone started vibrating frantically.

He suddenly had a bad feeling, as he heard the bodyguard's voice, and put the phone to his ear.

The usually calm and collected male voice on the other end sounded utterly powerless: "Mr. Chen, we're useless. You... please come back..."

He was halfway through listening when his arm trembled, and the phone slowly fell to the ground.

The bodyguard contacted Chen Qin through Uncle Zhang, and Chen Qin promptly arranged for Ruyi's emergency surgery. His wife and former mother-in-law also learned of the tragedy and rushed to the hospital in shock and anger.

To facilitate postoperative care and treatment for critically ill patients, the ICU is usually located next to the operating room. Two elderly women sitting near the ICU entrance saw their grandson standing blankly a short distance away, looking utterly lost and bewildered like a child. Ruyi gave birth to a little princess, but unfortunately she's premature, only four and a half pounds, like a kitten, sleeping in the incubator in the maternity ward." He was led by his maternity grandmother to see his daughter.

The newborn baby, just out of the amniotic fluid, had red and wrinkled skin and was barely longer than a chopstick due to premature birth. Electrodes were attached to her small chest, her delicate fingers were quietly curled at her sides, and both her slender wrists were fitted with strap sensors to monitor blood oxygen and blood pressure.

Grandma said, "Luckily, Ruyi turned her back at the critical moment and didn't have her stomach hit directly, otherwise..." Such a small child would not have been saved. However, Ruyi also suffered multiple fractures and internal bleeding. Fortunately, the bodyguard knew first aid and she was taken to the hospital in time, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable.

The monitor displayed its various indicators quietly, occasionally fluctuating before settling back to a steady state. Chen Yan pressed her forehead against the glass, intently watching the baby in the incubator. Her handsome profile, usually reserved and unapproachable, was now shrouded in a serene gentleness. This was her and her baby. She had desperately protected her and miraculously survived, and her baby would be as strong as her mother, growing up safely and healthily in the future.

On the evening of the third day after entering the ICU, Ruyi briefly woke up. It happened to be visiting time, and Chen Yan, fully equipped in sterile clothing, stood guard by her bedside. She opened her hazy eyes, looked at him weakly for a few seconds, and then fell asleep again.

But Chen Yan is already very satisfied. The doctor said that as long as she can open her eyes, no matter how short the time, it means that everything is developing in a good direction, and sleep is the body's best automatic repair method.

On the fifth day, Ruyi's awakenings became longer and longer, and she would occasionally make eye contact with He Caiyu, Chen Yan, Hao Jing and others through the monitoring window.

A week later, she was transferred from the ICU to a private room.

He Caiyu bent down to adjust the angle of the hospital bed for her. After Ruyi woke up, she looked at her aunt without looking through the layers of protective clothing for the first time.
