Chapter 288 Homesickness Away from Home
Qin Mo bought a dozen or so Holy Spirit Coins out of his own pocket, and after wandering around the main hall on the first floor of the Temple of Priests, he gained a basic understanding of the first and second level scriptures in the temple.
The Holy Temple possesses significantly more cultivation scriptures than the Great Xia Dynasty, at least superficially. The Great Xia Imperial Family only opens one version of the "Heaven-Breaking Technique" to the outside world, and even that is only the incomplete first half. In contrast, the Holy Temple has seven different basic cultivation methods.
However, the Great Xia's "Breaking the Heavens Record" rubbing plus the Yuanqi "potion" combination set is far more powerful and efficient than the cultivation manuals in the Holy Temple. While the cultivators in the Holy Temple are still silently trying to incorporate the "Holy Spirit Power" into their bodies and studying it carefully, the cultivators of the Great Xia have already begun to use violent Yuanqi to flush out their body meridians and strengthen their bones and physique.
In Qin Mo's view, the extremely crude "Breaking the Heavens Record" was more than twice as complicated as the cultivation methods in these holy temples.
Qin Mo's own "Returning to the Heart Sutra" draws on the strengths of many schools of thought, and its ability to absorb, utilize, and refine primordial energy far surpasses that of these basic scriptures of the Holy Temple.
"What exactly happened in those ancient ruins? How did the predecessors of the Great Xia and the Holy Temple find these profound cultivation texts? How many of these texts are there?"
Qin Mo only knew that the cultivation methods of the Great Xia Dynasty originated from ancient ruins; for example, the "Heaven-Breaking Technique" was a stone tablet with inscriptions. Now that the Holy Temple possesses so many cultivation methods, could they also be derived from these precious texts found in ancient ruins?
"Buzz"
A bell rang, prompting Qin Mo, who had been deep in thought, to look up. He had been pondering whether he could memorize the temple's scriptures and bring them back to Dayuan for his own use.
But after much consideration, it still seemed very difficult. These magic circle metal puppets could not be replicated, so the temple's teaching method could not be copied.
The Great Xia Imperial Family's Vitality Elixir can directly induce a sense of vitality in people, and the Holy Temple uses magic array puppets to achieve the same purpose. These are the foundations of both, so how can people easily see through their secrets?
"Qin Mo, it's lunchtime. The temple has strict rules; if you miss your lunch, you won't get to eat."
Kelly stayed close to Qin Mo, occasionally glancing at Qin Mo's profile. After the bell rang, she quietly reminded Qin Mo.
"Oh! Does lunch cost money?" Qin Mo smiled at Kelly and asked kindly.
"It's free! And we get three meals a day. The temple is the happiest and most generous place in the world."
Qin Mo blinked, and followed Kelly out of the temple with some skepticism, to see just how generous the wicked temple was.
When the two reached the Blessing Stone Gate, they saw Xu Luo and another man standing there in the distance. Xu Luo waved happily to Qin Mo when he saw her, while the other man also looked up and looked in Qin Mo's direction.
The man looked to be in his thirties, wearing the same gray monk's robe as Qin Mo. His long hair was unkempt and somewhat sloppy, but his eyes were bright, making him appear very determined and ruthless.
"Qin Mo, this is Qu Huan, the 'senior' who lives in the fifth row." Xu Luo greeted Qin Mo warmly as he waited for him to come over.
"Old Qu, this is Qin Mo, a brother who just arrived yesterday."
"Lady Kelly, thank you for helping our new brothers."
"Your Excellency Qu Huan, there is no need for such formality. The Holy Maiden taught us that we should help each other."
The man named Qu Huan first bowed and thanked Kelly before asking Qin Mo, "Brother Qin Mo, are you from the capital?"
"Yes, my ancestral home is Beijing."
Qu Huan frowned, and said with suspicion, "Brother Qin's aura... is very strange, and his name... sounds familiar..."
Xu Luo grabbed Qu Huan's shoulder and said, "You've been cooped up in your room cultivating all day and you're almost going crazy. You've been working day and night again today, haven't you? You didn't even come to line up this morning. Hurry up and go eat! It takes almost half an hour to get to the city and back!"
Qu Huan smiled and nodded slightly to Qin Mo as apologetic. She then formally invited Kelly, who smiled and declined. Her dignified and composed attitude was very ladylike.
The three of them chatted and laughed as they left the Gate of Sages and followed the path outside the stone wall to the square outside the Hall of Sages. There were more people here. A path and two gates divided the temple into two parts: one part was the public service area, and the other part was the core area for cultivators.
Xu Luo's flamboyant knight's robes were particularly eye-catching, and the believers and students he encountered on the road stopped and bowed. When they saw the gold-trimmed cross on Qu Huan and Qin Mo's gray priest's robes, their expressions became even more respectful, and they bowed to them repeatedly.
"The Temple's hierarchical system is so strong; it seems their rule in the Western Continent is deeply entrenched," Qin Mo remarked, looking at the believers who had stepped aside to let the three of them go first.
"It's more than just deep; their clergy are spread throughout every city-state, and the people are extremely devout in their faith. It is said that several kings who want to succeed to the throne must obtain the permission of the Temple Elders. It can be said that the Temple is not an empire, but it is more like an empire."
Perhaps Xu Luo was a bit of a chatterbox, or perhaps he hadn't seen his fellow countrymen from Great Xia for a long time, because he talked incessantly to Qin Mo about how powerful the Holy Temple was in the Western Continent.
Below the Temple Mount lies the Sant'Ron district of Rome, a large, semi-circular district that encircles this small hill in the northwest corner of the city. The Sant'Ron district was very prosperous and close to the Temple, making it one of the most important districts in Rome. Various city-states, including Bactria, established their capitals in the Sant'Ron district.
Xu Luo was clearly familiar with the St. Roon District. He led Qin Mo and Qu Huan through a maze of turns to a small street. At the entrance of the street stood a stone archway with three large characters on it that were very eye-catching: Silver Sparrow Street.
