Chapter 85 Winter Swimming
Qin Mo didn't know why he came back. He didn't even dare to ask himself why he had done something stupid again.
When he returned to the original spot, the island was surrounded by a lake, and the nearby ice was melting rapidly.
"Go south slowly, don't run too fast and overturn the sled!" Qin Mo gestured to her sled dogs, then sent them away. She cut a large piece of ice floe herself and used it as a boat to paddle towards the beam.
Qin Mo only entered the outer city on the first floor. The oppressive aura emanating from the bone tower made him feel very uncomfortable. A familiar aura was being suppressed with all its might, and the Nirvana Flame within his body had begun to stir.
Qin Mo didn't know if Nirvana Flame would be discovered by the beastman powerhouses like Yuan Qi, but he didn't want to take the risk, so he began to struggle between hiding or retreating.
The sudden chaos interrupted his thoughts. Someone roared from the bone tower, then a magnificent cloud rose up, and then he watched as the phoenix-eyed man smashed several orc generals to death, killed two overseers, and rushed up to him covered in blood, holding a battle axe to his neck.
Qin Mo subconsciously stepped out of her hiding place, slaying countless orcs, and grasped Li Feng's hand, which was still tender and white despite being stained with blood.
He tucked the phoenix-eyed man under his arm, swung his battle axe with one hand, and hacked the orc warriors and generals before him to pieces; he also traded blows, bringing down a roaring warlord; then, carrying the phoenix-eyed man, he leaped over the city wall and plunged into the water.
A group of orc pursuers shouted and yelled behind them, but only a few followed Qin Mo into the water. The other orcs anxiously began to search for various floating objects to replace the boat.
After Qin Mo jumped into the water, she quickly sank to the bottom. No matter how much Qin Mo struggled, she couldn't swim. Both of them were wearing heavy armor, so how could they swim?
Qin Mo struggled to walk along the bottom of the lake, one hand covering Li Fengyan's mouth and nose. She was already unconscious; wouldn't it be a waste if she choked to death? With her other hand, she began to undress her. Her armor was exquisite and form-fitting, and Qin Mo struggled to remove it.
He embraced Danfengyan and began their long-awaited "double" winter swim, but the feeling was anything but romantic or intimate. Danfengyan's body showed no reaction, which made Qin Mo's heart sink.
"Hoo..." Qin Mo surfaced, exhaling the stale air from her lungs, and tested her breath with her finger. Thankfully, she was still breathing, indicating that her basic physiological functions were still intact.
"@¥%!@%#……@……@" A series of loud shouts came from behind Qin Mo. A large group of orcs, some paddling on a large log and others floundering with their dogs, charged towards him in a huge swarm.
Qin Mo felt a deep sense of desolation. He had spotted at least two warlords, and with his phoenix eyes, he was no match for them. He wasn't sure if there was a beastman king in the city, and if another powerful figure like King Bernullis appeared, he would be trapped. A "king" didn't need to swim.
Qin Mo carried Danfengyan on her back, tied it with her own belt, and began to swim vigorously. In her previous life, she had undergone intensive training for sailing, and her technique and posture were impeccable.
Qin Mo was still unable to shake off his pursuers. Seeing the floating ice appearing ahead, he knew the melting lake water had stopped, and the ice surface lay ahead. He glanced back at the two warlords; their gaping mouths disgusted him.
Qin Mo steeled his resolve. What the Baikal seal could do, he could do too. He moved his gaze to his chest, looking at Danfengyan's haggard face. The bloodstains on her body had been washed away by the lake water, and her tightly furrowed brows were heartbreaking. She was no longer the fierce Danfengyan; she was just a pitiful girl.
Qin Mo took a deep breath, lifted Li Fengyan's veil, and kissed Li Fengyan's mouth and nose. The two shared this breath and plunged into the vast ice of Lake Baikal.
Baikal seals have sharp claws that allow them to carve a hole in 70-centimeter-thick ice on a lake surface to breathe, and they can stay underwater for extended periods without catching their breath.
Qin Mo and Danfengyan couldn't stay there for long. Whenever Qin Mo sensed even the slightest change in Danfengyan's breathing, he would use his short blade to dig a hole in the ice to breathe. They hadn't gone far yet, and they could still occasionally hear the angry shouts of the orcs, so he couldn't stop to check Danfengyan's injuries.
The two swam under the ice for an unknown amount of time. Qin Mo felt his lips go numb, which was simply unimaginable, considering that his physical body had been strengthened countless times by Nirvana Flame. "Could it be that I kissed too hard?"
Qin Mo didn't know if there were any skilled snow trackers among the orcs. Wearing his phoenix-eyed mask, he dared not risk running on the ice, and could only repeatedly take a breath and dive into the water.
He had already begun circulating his vital energy to raise his body temperature, otherwise he would lose heatstroke if he stayed in the lake for too long. Danfeng's eyes had already lost all sensation, and Qin Mo felt her body getting colder and colder; her vital energy was clearly not circulating.
Qin Mo unbuttoned her clothes, placed the phoenix-eyed girl against her chest, and wrapped her tightly in her clothes, using her body heat to keep the phoenix-eyed girl warm.
As the day faded and night fell once more, exhausted and breathless, Qin Mo finally climbed onto the ice. Like a fish thrown ashore, he gasped for air.
The ice surface and the ice beneath it were two completely different worlds. The howling north wind on the ice made Qin Mo shiver. The two, soaking wet, began to huddle together for warmth on the ice, which was tens of degrees below zero. Qin Mo didn't manage to dry their clothes and warm them up until she was almost exhausted.
Qin Mo hoisted his phoenix-eyed glasses, discerned his direction, and ran towards the eastern shore of Lake Baikal. He had no idea how far he had escaped, nor could he find his sled. Only when he reached the shore could he find shelter from the wind and firewood to keep warm.
