Chapter Seventy-Four: A Daring Person
Cavosburg was an acropolis, not very large, but when nearly ten thousand people surrounded it, it became completely packed. The Russians, carrying makeshift ladders and wearing crude leather armor, howled as they rammed their way into the city walls.
A large number of orc warriors appeared on the city wall. They were exceptionally brave and pushed wave after wave of Rakshasa people off the wall. Occasionally, Rakshasa warriors who charged up the wall were also quickly killed by them.
Qin Mo watched the battle, a fight between vastly different strengths, from afar, and couldn't help but gain a profound understanding of the Rakshasa warriors' ferocity. Knowing full well that charging into the orc warriors was a near-certain death, they were fearless, advancing wave after wave. The cry of "Hurrah... Hurrah!" resounded loudly and clearly from beginning to end.
Ji Wu and Lev, however, did not participate in the battle. Instead, they gathered around them a force of nearly a thousand men, well-equipped and in strict formation, quite unlike the surrounding Russians. They were patiently waiting, searching for the best opportunity to engage in combat.
The orcs finally began to suffer casualties. Their numbers were far too few compared to the Rakshasa, like an elephant surrounded by ants. Small wounds eventually accumulated into serious injuries, and the bleeding continued.
A furious roar resounded, and a massive figure charged into the crowd. The Rakshasa people fell to both sides like waves, their blood flowing everywhere.
Ji Wu moved. He appeared to be attacking the orc general with his bare hands, seemingly without any weapon. The orc general completely disregarded Ji Wu, swinging his spiked club straight at him. Based on his experience, he knew this weak Rakshasa would be easily swept away.
Ji Wu made no attempt to dodge, meeting the spiked club head-on with both arms. A faint light flashed, and he managed to block the powerful spiked club. The aftershocks of the clash tore his sleeves, revealing a pair of exquisitely crafted arm guards.
The orc general was clearly taken aback, not expecting this tiny Rakshasa to be able to block his attack. He was momentarily stunned. The opportunity was fleeting. Ji Wu twisted his body and swung his arm, his fists striking the orc general's chest repeatedly. With a series of "thumps," the orc was forced back step by step, finally spitting out a mouthful of blood.
"Agh!" The orc went berserk. The insignificant human had actually injured him; he felt utterly humiliated. He swung his spiked club even more fiercely, and Ji Wu's movements became faster and faster. He constantly shifted his feet, always staying close to the orc general's body, dodging and weaving, his fists both fast and heavy, making a series of "thuds" as blood splattered down his face.
The orc general's spiked club was too long, and Ji Wu was too close, making it impossible for him to strike. The orc grew increasingly impatient, spitting blood more and more violently. With a desperate roar, he threw aside his club and lunged at Ji Wu. In hand-to-hand combat, who among the orcs feared?
Unfortunately, he made a fatal mistake this time. He lost his weapon, and Ji Wu had no more scruples. He used his arm guards to block and smash, and in no time, the orc general's arms went limp, clearly the bones had been broken.
"Who exactly are you?" The orc general was powerless to resist. He finally realized that this Rakshasa was a cultivator, but all the cultivators in the Rakshasa Kingdom were royalty. Why would a member of royalty come to attack this garrison city?
“He’s from Great Xia, Kubi. I told you never to underestimate anyone, but you always forget. You shouldn’t have come out before their true powerhouse appeared. How dare these Rakshasa attack Overseer Kavos’s territory? You were too careless.” An old orc with a wrinkled face appeared behind Ji Wu at some point, looking at Kubi with a sigh.
"Great Xia people? How could they be here? Why would the Great Xia people help the Rakshasa people in battle?" Kubi cried out in horror. The Great Xia cultivators had just breached Maimai City and slaughtered all the orcs in the city. Now they had already reached Ulan-Ude?
“Trust me, Kubi. I’ve fought the Great Xia people for so many years, and they all have a special aura about them. According to reports, the cultivation methods they use originate from the same classic text.” Sek calmly said to Kubi, ignoring the orc warriors falling around him.
"Sek, if Cavosburg is looted, you won't fare any better. Lord Cavos will not let our families off the hook. Now, let's think about how to kill this Xia man!"
“This is actually easy, Kubi. You just need to block his retreat, and I'll take care of the rest. Remember, you can't retreat. If you hold out for a while, he'll surely die.” Old Sek raised his battle axe, forming an angle with Kubi, which restricted most of Ji Wu's offensive direction.
The battle axe sliced through the night sky, seemingly slow yet swift, as it cut towards Ji Wu. Ji Wu's heart skipped a beat; he knew he had encountered a formidable opponent. This wrinkled old orc might not be highly skilled, but his combat techniques were honed to an extremely high level. Kubi, though his arms dangled, pressed his massive body against him, greatly reducing Ji Wu's room to maneuver.
"Woo..." A loud horn blared, and Lev's elite troops finally moved. They were clearly well-trained, or even soldiers by birth; archers and shield bearers coordinated their movements and quickly rushed to the foot of the city wall, beginning their swarming assault. Their teamwork was seamless, and their fearlessness was remarkable. They quickly gained the upper hand, and even managed to sever a detachment to descend the wall and seize the city gate.
Ji Wu's spirits lifted, and he fought with increasing ferocity. If Lev succeeds, then nearly ten thousand Rakshasa will flood in. No matter how experienced you, old Sek, are, you're just an orc general. They'll overwhelm you!
Qin Mo stood at a distance, carefully observing Ji Wu through binoculars. When she saw Ji Wu display superb close-combat skills, she couldn't help but secretly applaud. Ji Wu's fighting techniques were disciplined and clearly not from a haphazard style; it was unclear which school he was trained in. Occasionally, a faint light emanated from his fists as he moved swiftly and decisively, leaving Old Sai Ke struggling to defend himself. The occasional glow emanating from his skin was a sign of his extremely pure vital energy; the next step was to transform his vital energy into liquid, advancing to the Profound Realm.
