Chapter 409: Cloud Returns (Part 2) (1/3)

After Yun Wenfang came out of Baoping Hutong, he did not go back to the Yun family directly. Instead, he went to the Yanbei Palace.

Compared to the numerous checkpoints at the Ren family's gate, the guards outside the Yanbei Palace were much more lax. Yun Wen dismounted his horse and went to ask the palace's gatekeeper a few questions. Then he emerged from the palace, mounted his horse, and rode out of the city, waiting at the fork in the road outside.

After waiting for who knows how long, a carriage finally arrived from the end of the forked road, flanked by mounted guards. The carriage appeared larger than average and unassuming, but a closer look revealed a difference in the wood used. A subtle emblem depicting a soaring eagle adorned the walls, a symbol known to everyone in Yanbei as the royal palace's emblem.

Yun Wenfang had been staring at the approaching carriage. When the guards noticed him, he emerged from the darkness on his horse and slowly stopped in the middle of the road, blocking the group of people. His gaze was still fixed on the curtain of the carriage, as if he wanted to poke a hole in it with his eyes.

Someone whispered something into the carriage, and then the carriage stopped.

The leading guard rode up, glanced at Yun Wenfang, and said, "Second Young Master Yun, is there something wrong?"

Yun Wenfang didn't even look at the guard: "I want to see Xiao Jingxi." His voice was a little hoarse, like someone who hadn't had water for a long time.

The guard frowned, but nodded and said, "Second Young Master Yun, please follow me." It was obvious that he had received instructions.

Yun Wenfang followed the guard to the carriage. The guard whispered to the carriage, "Sir, Second Young Master Yun wants to see you." Although he led Yun Wenfang over, the guard's eyes were still fixed on Yun Wenfang, silent but cautious and vigilant.

Yun Wenfang twitched his lips, but there was no smile on his face. The action only caused his already dry lips to crack. Blood seeped out, staining his lower lip red. Combined with his gloomy face, any ordinary person would be frightened away.

"Second Young Master Xiao, I have something to discuss with you. Could you please ask your people to leave?" Yun Wenfang's words were unusually polite.

The guard was about to speak when there was a light knock on the carriage wall. Then the curtain was opened by Tong He, who was standing beside the carriage, and Xiao Jingxi stepped down from the carriage.

After getting out of the car, Xiao Jingxi glanced at Yun Wenfang. There was no special expression on his face. He turned around and gently instructed his guards, "You can leave first."

The guards hesitated, but they bowed their heads and saluted, then retreated about twenty paces away with their men. They refused to retreat any further. Tong He, however, did not retreat with the guards. He remained motionless, his eyes lowered, standing behind Xiao Jingxi.

Yun Wenfang glanced at Tong He, a mocking expression on his face: "If I take action, can one follower stop me? If Second Young Master Xiao is afraid, he should call everyone back."

Xiao Jingxi just smiled when he heard this. He didn't explain, and ignored Yun Wenfang's provocation. He just asked, "What do you want from me?"

Xiao Jingxi's nonchalant attitude made Yun Wenfang's suppressed bloodlust surge again. He took two steps forward and approached Xiao Jingxi: "You want to marry Ren Yaoqi?"

Yun Wenfang didn't restrain the murderous aura and hostility emanating from him as he stepped forward. Xiao Jingxi, however, seemed completely oblivious, standing still without moving, his voice unchanged. "Yes. However, this is a matter between the Yanbei Palace and the Ren family, and Second Young Master Yun seems to have expressed some interest. Also, please address my fiancée as Miss Ren."
