Chapter 31 Reaching the Summit
The heavy topic meant that the group didn't talk for long before Zhang Shiting and her two teammates left. Rong Yi quickly packed his things, laid out his sleeping bag, and lay down.
Even after wiping it multiple times, a faint smell of blood still lingered on the tip of my nose when I took off my mask.
Once the basic task was completed, she didn't care much about the subsequent progress and was preoccupied with trying to recall her past life.
Who is she? Does she have any family? Why did she lose her memory? These questions lingered in my mind.
The unsolvable problem made her eyelids grow heavier and heavier until she finally fell asleep.
In the other room, Guan Lang unbuttoned his shirt and asked, "Why don't you ask her what her talent is? Judging from her appearance, it seems to be more than just physical enhancement."
Zhang Shiting pressed her slender fingers against her temples, "They're checking her household registration. I'm afraid she'll get annoyed if I ask too many questions." Soon, a pair of hands pushed her fingers away and helped massage her temples. She knew it was Leng Rui. "From the first moment I saw that little girl, I knew she hadn't experienced many dungeons. But how should I put it, she has a strong aura about her, as if she's fearless in the face of any danger."
After saying that, she pulled Leng Rui's face close to hers and said, "She's very strong. That's the first impression she gives, even if she doesn't make a move or seem malicious."
Leng Rui pinched her cheek. "It's good that we stopped there. There's still room for discussion. We should talk about what situation we'll face next before we leave."
·
When Rong Yi woke up, she sat on the bed in a daze for a while, wondering if no monsters had been released outside or if the house was too soundproof, as she seemed not to have heard any noise.
After quickly getting up and packing his things, Rong Yi pressed the groove on the door frame and opened the door smoothly.
Bloodstains were splattered on the white tiles, indicating that something had happened, albeit a small one.
The clock near the ceiling shows the current time as 18:15.
Once the mission is complete, she will have to focus on collecting monster corpses and those potions. She doesn't know how many points these biotechnology potions can be sold for.
Upon reaching the 33rd floor, her collaboration with Zhang Shiting and others temporarily ended, which is why Zhang Shiting extended an invitation to her.
Rong Yi didn't send them a message; instead, he took his dagger and began hunting.
What was rather strange was that Rong Yi hadn't walked far when she encountered a man and a woman traveling together, both carrying guns. They didn't seem to be on patrol; they appeared to share the same goal as her: to hunt.
The two men glanced at her, then passed by without asking a single question.
Rong Yi avoided the path the two had taken and headed down another side road.
At 18:42, Rong Yi had a strange feeling, similar to the situation when he encountered the Tyrannosaurus Rex before.
The dagger spun between his fingers before he gripped it tightly, taking a deep breath and focusing intently.
Suddenly, the ceiling opened up ten meters ahead, and three black-skinned, hairless creatures landed. They bumped into each other and then looked at Rong Yi in unison.
Hounds, multiple monsters released.
"Woof woof woof!"
With a target in mind, the three hunting dogs came barking and running.
Seeing that it was a hunting dog, Rong Yi put away her dagger, took out her pistol and fired a shot. She was now keenly aware of the hunting dog's swiftness. The bullet aimed at the dog's head hit its body, and the hunting dog dodged with incredible speed.
However, the bullet's power was still great for it. The hunting dog, hit in the body, howled like a real dog, stopped running, and barked at Rong Yi.
Rong Yi continued his actions without stopping, firing a second and a third shot. One of the hunting dogs actually shielded its companion from a bullet, while the unharmed dog leaped high into the air, its blood-red eyes fixed on Rong Yi.
Rong Yi emptied the magazine, but the hound's mouth was still wide open. She put away her gun, seized the opportunity, and grabbed the hound's front paws.
The hound tilted its head and tried to bite her hand, but Rong Yi grabbed it by the back of its neck with her other hand.
The frantically struggling hunting dog, wounded by two bullets, barked and attacked despite its injuries. Rong Yi swung the dog high in his hand and slammed it down on the head of the wounded dog.
The three were quickly dealt with. Rong Yi noticed that the bleeding from the bullet holes on the hunting dogs had stopped, and he sighed that these little things were not difficult to deal with, but their recovery ability was abnormal.
I used to be quite averse to hunting dogs, but now I feel comfortable accepting them all.
From around 6 p.m. to around 11 p.m., Rong Yi encountered three groups of hunting dogs, which he dealt with within five minutes of each group.
Killing hunting dogs yields few supplies, only food and bullets, and in small quantities.
It seems that even if Tyrannosaurus Rex isn't the strongest, it's at least the second strongest.
As he wandered around, he came to the main entrance to the upper level. Since the door was hard to find, Rong Yi simply opened it and went through himself, finding a room on the 34th floor to stay in temporarily.
·
After a fierce battle, Rong Yi ate two boxes of food and then went to sleep. Whenever she fought, her energy consumption would double.
The next morning around nine o'clock, Rong Yi woke up on time and first checked the message notifications on his screen. Sure enough, Zhang Shiting had sent a message saying that she had been knocking on the door but there was no response, and asked if she was there. She then said that they would continue climbing the stairs and hoped to see each other again.
Rong Yi replied briefly, "Okay."
After finishing breakfast, Rong Yi got ready to go. She would continue to the 39th floor and wouldn't stop as long as she didn't encounter any monsters along the way.
To her surprise, as she stepped outside, a creature with thick limbs, bulging muscles, and two horns on its head appeared, standing at waist level with her, and it turned around just in time to see her.
Rong Yi instinctively closed the door to try and defend himself, but the monster's sharp teeth came along with the stray bullets.
The seemingly sturdy door was less than paper in the monster's mouth; its sharp teeth easily bit through it, and it even stretched its head over to continue biting Rong Yi.
The room was too cramped to maneuver properly, but luckily the people outside had somehow gotten to where she was and, frustrated, abandoned her and turned back to charge forward.
She knew this monster was Broken Bone, with an astonishing bite force.
The outer layer of the broken bone is extremely thick, making it difficult for bullets to penetrate. The skull is even harder and resistant to close-range bullet fire. Even ants can kill an elephant if they are numerous, let alone so many bullets. This broken bone already has some areas where the skin has been broken.
Everyone dodged along the path of the Broken Bone Charge, and many people crouched down to attack its weak point, the abdomen.
This was very effective; soon the broken abdomen was a bloody mess, and a large amount of blood gushed out.
Rong Yi did nothing but watch as the people here dealt with the broken bones. Even after the creature fell, it did not die. Someone stabbed it in the heart before it finally died.
After Broken Bones died, the wall still contained supplies, but almost half as many as when the Tyrannosaurus Rex died.
This time, however, the distribution of supplies was not very harmonious. The strongest people chose first, while the rest could only stand at the back and wait, occasionally peeking out to see how much supplies were left. No one touched the monster's corpse.
Rong Yi watched silently from behind, intending to collect the broken bone after they left.
After selecting their supplies, the people left in small groups, but some noticed Rong Yi.
"You have a good mental fortitude; it seems you weren't scared by the broken bone." The woman who spoke was wearing a hoodie and had her hair neatly combed.
Several people stood on either side of the woman, and they looked her up and down when their leader spoke.
"What is it?" Rong Yicai didn't think they were just bored and came to chat.
The woman smiled and said, "It's nothing. I see you have some potential. Join our team, and once we finish the hunt, we'll select a location in the front or middle of the map for supplies. You'll have no shortage of food, drink, or bullets."
