Chapter 74 Reappearance of Civilization

Mutant cats and dogs followed the convoy from a distance, but stopped when the convoy left the territory.

Rong Yi opened the window and felt the wind blowing on his cheeks.

When they arrived near Huayuan Shopping Mall, the wind picked up and got stronger. When Rong Yi got out of the car, her long hair was blown across her face.

"Is the weather about to change again?" Rong Yi asked, looking around.

Wei Yanqing put the car away. "Maybe. We need to hurry up and get into the mall."

Wu Junzhi also got out of the car, and as soon as he got out, he frowned and covered his face. "This weather is really working against us." He suspected that it was going to rain later.

Wei Yanqing helped to retrieve their car to prevent it from being damaged by those mutated animals while parked there.

The group consisted of one hundred people, plus these two unofficial members.

One hundred people were divided into groups of twenty, with two groups on each side and the remaining group following them in the middle.

There were at most five hundred zombies near the mall, much fewer than Rong Yi had expected.

"That's all?" she asked, pointing to the hordes of zombies roaming around the mall.

“There are many more scattered across the six residential areas, and there are living people in all of these places,” Wu Junzhi explained.

Rong Yi nodded. She had almost thought there was another high-level zombie hiding nearby. She really had PTSD about the behavior of gold-type zombies.

The two flanks spread out, encircling the entire mall from the outside. Once Wu Junzhi gave the order, a hail of bullets swept towards the zombie horde.

Startled by the horde of corpses, they turned and ran towards the soldiers.

Inside the mall, Hu Dan, who was curled up behind An Qian, suddenly brightened up when she heard the burst of gunfire.

Not only her, but everyone else in the mall got excited too.

"It must be the official rescue team! We're saved!"

Someone struggled to get up to look out the window, only to be kicked away by a foot in designer shoes, and lay on the ground for a long time, unable to recover.

"Behave yourself!" the man who kicked the man said viciously, then turned to the window with a look of anger on his face.

The world is clearly in complete chaos, so why would soldiers come to rescue people, especially from a large supermarket on the basement floor of a shopping mall...?

With a fierce look from him, the people sitting on the ground all turned their faces away, not daring to meet his gaze. Hu Dan and An Qian also silently lowered their heads.

That day, Jiang Zhuyu mutated into a zombie. Hu Dan was the first to run out of the dormitory building. Because she was fast enough, the zombies from the other dormitories hadn't run out yet. An Qian followed closely behind.

"Hu Dan! Wait a minute." An Qian's shout made Hu Dan slowly stop. She remembered that she couldn't run away alone. An Qian was the only person she could play with at school. Their hometowns were also close, so they could escape together.

An Qian caught up, panting heavily, "Let's go back and check on Rong Yi, she hasn't come out yet."

Hu Dan couldn't understand her suggestion. "Are you crazy? Didn't you see how Jiang Zhuyu turned into that grotesque mess? Besides, Rong Yi isn't without legs. Didn't you run away too?"

An Qian couldn't refute what he said. She glanced in the direction of the dormitory building, where several terrible screams came from, which made her turn pale with fright.

"Go if you want, I'm going to escape." Hu Dan said harshly, but she didn't want An Qian to go back.

An Qian wondered if Rong Yi was among those screams just now.

In the end, she didn't go back. She and Hu Dan climbed over the wall from the playground and went out. They didn't dare to go through the main gate.

There were many fleeing people on the road. They followed the crowd and watched as the people next to them were pounced on by zombies. The shadow of death enveloped every inch of their bodies.

Finally, after wandering around, they followed the crowd to Huayuan Mall. There were several people from different residential areas in the mall. They originally wanted to go to the large supermarket on the basement level to find something to eat, but someone opened the supermarket door, causing the entire area to be overrun by zombies.

Unable to go to the supermarket, and with zombies surrounding the mall, they had no choice but to stay there.

At first, everyone worked together to block the surrounding glass, afraid that the zombies outside would see them, but gradually the wind direction changed.

Instead of using their powers on zombies, they were exceptionally vicious towards their own people.

Two of the superpowered individuals who opposed the movement died, while the survivors were tortured for amusement, barely clinging to life.

That's why everyone was so excited when they heard the gunshots.

Gong Kang walked to the window and carefully lifted a corner of it. He had hoped that the people who had stolen the police station's guns would appear, but their camouflage uniforms and professional encirclement extinguished the last bit of hope in his heart.

He gritted his teeth, turned his head, and looked at his companions.

They ruled as local tyrants for many days, which was the most enjoyable time of their lives.

Gong Kang waved to his companions, and when they gathered together, he said, "There are soldiers all outside, we have to run."

The collapsed society had lost all order, but upon seeing that military uniform, they subconsciously recalled that their previous actions were crimes.

“That’s right, I think so too.” Rong Yi agreed from the side.

Wu Junzhi immediately glanced at Rong Yi and Wei Yanqing, who nodded silently, indicating that there was a situation upstairs.

Wei Yanqing sensed that there were about sixty people upstairs, and that a superhuman was about to use his powers on ordinary people.

He immediately restrained the superhuman, saying, "A superhuman is trying to kill someone."
