On the full moon banquet for her child, the devastating news arrived that her husband had died on the battlefield. Sheng Xiyan fell into the abyss.
The prince's mansion bullied the orphan...
The next day, in Jingren Palace.
Empress Duan was leaning on the phoenix couch, wearing a phoenix robe and a nine-tailed phoenix hairpin on her head. Her makeup was exquisite but could not hide the gloom in her eyes.
He had just been yelling at Le Wen and Le Yun.
"Your Majesty, please take care of yourself. Once the Emperor's anger subsides in a few days, your confinement will be lifted. Besides, the Grand Marshal is there to smooth things over at court."
Ruyi stood aside, carefully offering a cup of hot tea. "No matter how favored that foreign princess is, she's just a foreign concubine and won't amount to anything."
Empress Duan sneered, took the teacup, but didn't drink. She just stared at the tea leaves floating in the cup and said quietly, "I'm not worried about her. A Wusun princess, no matter how favored she is, can't cause any trouble. What I'm really worried about is Concubine Chen."
He paused, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes, "If she gives birth to a prince, that would be a real concern. Among the three pregnancies, there should be a prince, right? What's more, her brother Sheng Jingheng was promoted two levels by the emperor the day before yesterday. If this continues, her power will only grow stronger."
Ruyi sighed and whispered, "Your Majesty is right. The Imperial Concubine is indeed difficult to deal with. She is proficient in medicine and strictly controls her diet and supplies, making it impossible to deal with her. Moreover, she is very agile. Even when pregnant, she is more flexible than an ordinary person."
I heard that when the cat rushed her the other day, it actually stopped just a finger's length away from her belly. Some people even said that a golden light was shining from her pregnant belly!
"Golden light?" Empress Duan suddenly looked up, a trace of suspicion flashing in her eyes. "Nonsense! Where did the golden light come from? It must be a lie made up by those servants when they had nothing better to do!"
Although she denied it, she felt uneasy in her heart.
Sheng Xiyan's pregnant belly was actually protected by golden light? This was not a skill that ordinary people could possess.
Ruyi's Queen looked solemn, and she quickly advised, "Don't worry, Your Majesty. There will always be a chance. No matter how powerful the Imperial Concubine is, there will always be times when she makes mistakes."
Empress Duan snorted coldly and placed the teacup heavily on the table. A few drops of tea splashed out, wetting the tablecloth embroidered with a golden phoenix.
She narrowed her eyes and whispered, "She's already seven and a half months old, at her most vulnerable. Unfortunately, Guanju Palace is completely closed to the public. Even that bastard Zi Ling has turned against us, and every report she brings back is false. The day before yesterday, when you went to arrest her, she was so clever that she didn't even show up."
Ruyi nodded in agreement: "Don't worry, Your Majesty, I will definitely find another way."
In the afternoon, outside Chonghua Palace.
Xue Qiong stood on the corridor, looking up at the palace with carved beams and painted rafters, her eyes full of wonder and ambition.
Emperor Xuanwu's words, "Your current position is not enough to qualify you to live in Chonghua Palace," aroused her enthusiasm.
When she went to the Central Plains alone, she cried and cursed the King of Wusun, but when she realized that it was of no avail, she picked herself up and decided to make a name for herself.
Why can she only be a pawn of the King of Wusun?
What she wanted to do was to become the most honorable queen in the Central Plains for herself and make the King of Wusun bow down to her.
The maid followed behind her and sighed softly, "Princess, this Chonghua Palace is truly magnificent. I heard that besides the Qianqing Palace and the Yangxin Palace, this is the most luxurious here."
Xue Qiong chuckled, a gleam in her eyes: "Is it more luxurious than Guanju Palace?"
The maid nodded quickly: "Yes, it's better than Guanju Palace."
Xue Qiong stood in the sun, clasped her hands on her shoulders, and made a Wusun prayer gesture.
He murmured softly, "It's time to make up my mind."
Her eyes were firm and cold, and she had a plan in mind.
She wanted to use the strategy of self-torture to completely enter the heart of Emperor Xuanwu.
With the blessing of the love Gu, she believed that she and Xuan Ling would become a loving couple, and she would rise to a high position in the world.
She turned around and walked out of Chonghua Palace with a sneer on her lips: "Just wait, I will be able to move in here soon."
At night, inside the Yupeng Palace.
Xue Qiong tied the written letter to the pigeon's foot, gently stroked its feathers, and whispered, "Go and bring the news to the warriors of Wusun."
The carrier pigeon flapped its wings and disappeared into the night.
After a cup of tea, Commander Xue hurried into the Yangxin Palace and knelt on one knee. "Your Majesty, the pigeon from Yupeng Palace has already delivered the letter. This is the content of the letter that I copied."
Xuan Ling sat behind the dragon table, playing with a night-shining pearl in his hand. He picked up the letter and read it, a sneer curling up at the corner of his lips. "Very good. Deploy 5,000 elite troops and ambush them at Yuqing Mountain... Then we'll catch all the Wusun spies in one fell swoop."
Commander Xue accepted the order and withdrew.
Xuan Ling looked at the dark night outside the hall, a sinister look flashing in his eyes.
Every step Xueqiong took was under his control.
The next day, in Guanju Palace.
Sheng Xiyan sat on the couch, holding a small brocade bag in her hand, looking uneasy.
Ever since she heard that Xuan Ling was going to take Xue Qiong to Yuqing Mountain for hunting, she has been worried.
Hua Xia came in with a plate of freshly cooked crab meat dumplings and said softly, "My Lady, didn't you say you wanted to eat this yesterday? Have some while it's hot."
Sheng Xiyan shook her head, staring out the window, and whispered, "I can't eat."
Hua Xia sighed, placed the snacks on the table, and quietly stepped aside.
It was not until after dinner and before the palace curfew that Sheng Xiyan took a nap on the couch.
Suddenly, the palace door creaked open. She woke up suddenly and looked up. It was Xuan Ling who came.
Xuan Ling walked in quickly, but before he got to her, he saw Sheng Xiyan pouting and tears falling down her face.
His heart tightened, and he quickly stepped forward and hugged her in his arms, saying softly, "Baby, why are you crying?"
