Bu Ling, a vagabond from the apocalypse, transmigrates to a fictional seventies era. She faces a hellish starting difficulty. After a month of playing nice, she eventually sends off all of the orig...
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, if nothing unexpected happens, something unexpected is going to happen.
Bling opened her eyes, feeling dizzy and with a stuffy nose. She knew without a doubt she'd caught a cold. She raised her aching arm and touched her forehead—oh, and she also had a fever.
She reached under her pillow to check the time and felt something papery. When she pulled it out, she saw it was a bright red red envelope with the words "May you have peace and safety every year" written on it.
It was obvious without even guessing that it was Buyise's; it was her New Year's money.
Seeing that the red envelope was bulging, I knew there was a lot of money inside. But the most important thing right now wasn't counting the money. I took out a pack of Lianhua Qingwen pills from my spatial storage, popped three into my mouth, drank a glass of warm water, and then lay back down on the bed.
Getting sick on the first day of the Lunar New Year is really bad luck. My eyelids felt so heavy, and I fell asleep almost immediately.
When Bu Yi returned from the military camp, he found the house quiet and found it somewhat amusing. He remarked that he was all grown up and still loved to sleep in. However, he didn't disturb Bu Ling. He made a simple lunch, ate some himself, put the rest in the pot for Bu Ling, and then went out again.
Today is the first day of the Lunar New Year. He went to his superior's house to offer New Year's greetings this morning, and there's an awards ceremony at the military region this afternoon that he has to attend. He was originally planning to ask Buling if she was going, but she's still asleep, so he'll have to miss it.
Bu Yi wasn't careless; she had just heard her sister say that her drowsiness was a normal reaction to the medication, which was why she didn't disturb her.
To be fair, Bu Ling really shot herself in the foot. She made excuses for sleeping in, but Bu Yi is a doting brother, and he believed everything she said. Otherwise, no one would have noticed she had a fever.
When Bu Ling opened her eyes again, she felt as if her whole body had been run over by a car; every part of her body, from her hair to her toes, felt uncomfortable. She sat up for a while, took out a thermometer from her spatial storage, and measured her temperature at 37.5 degrees Celsius. Not bad, her fever had subsided.
I was a little hungry. I took out my watch and checked the time. Sure enough, I was hungry; it was already 3 PM. I got dressed and left the bedroom. The living room was very quiet.
Where is Buyi? He wasn't there on the first day of the Lunar New Year?
She wanted some hot soup, but there wasn't any in the space, so she had to fend for herself.
Fortunately, apart from feeling a little tired, all her symptoms of dizziness and blurred vision have disappeared.
Opening the pot, she saw a bowl of potato and pork rib soup inside. Buling's eyes reddened slightly. Really, how could she have such a thoughtful older brother?
Today was another day I was moved by my brother.
The soup had been sitting for so long that it had gone cold, so she reheated it herself, brought it out, and drank it in small sips.
That evening, when Bu Yi returned with his child, Bu Ling was making dumplings. Hearing the door open, she immediately turned around: "Brother, you're back! Come on, let's make dumplings together." Who doesn't eat dumplings on New Year's Day?
"Little sister, I'm here too!" Liang Boda said, dissatisfied with being ignored.
"Hey~ Deputy Commander Liang's here. Why didn't you go find any female comrades?" Bu Ling teased.
Liang Boda's expression became somewhat unnatural: "Ahem, what female comrade?"
"Stop pretending. I saw her yesterday, a woman with a round face." Bu Ling had a "I'm telling you, you're making this up" look on her face: "Hey, Brother Liang, tell me, how old is that woman? Where is she from? What does she do? What's her name? Tell me and I'll give you some advice."
Liang Boda was so flustered by the questioning that he almost fled. He quickly pulled a red envelope from his coat pocket and said, "Sister, please spare me."
Bu Ling accepted the red envelope without any politeness: "Tell me, as a fellow woman, I can give you some advice, considering the red envelope you gave me."
Liang Boda looked pleadingly at his good brother.
Bu Yi, of course, didn't catch it. "Lingling, what's wrong? You look a little pale?"
He noticed it as soon as he entered, initially thinking it was the lighting, but upon closer inspection, he realized her complexion was even worse.
"Oh, it's nothing, just a bit of a cold. I took some medicine, brother, don't worry, I'll be fine tomorrow," Bu Ling said nonchalantly.
"You've caught a cold? Is it serious? Come with me to the clinic!"
“Yes, sister, it’s better if you go see her. It will put our minds at ease.” Liang Boda had also heard about his sister’s condition from Bu Yi. Bu Yi, who usually wouldn’t shed a tear even when facing a life-threatening situation, had tears welling up in his eyes for a long time that day in front of him.
Bu Ling quickly grabbed the excited Bu Yi, "Oh, brother, I'm really fine now. Look, I can run and jump again."
Bu Yi looked at her disapprovingly.
"Besides, what if I go out now and catch a bad cold from the wind?"
Bu Yi paused, realizing he really couldn't refute this.
"Okay, Lao Liang, go to the infirmary and call the doctor on duty to come and check on Lingling." He wouldn't feel at ease if he didn't see her.
"Brother, I already said I'm fine. I just want to eat some dumplings. It's not easy for us to be reunited. I want to eat dumplings in peace and quiet. I really don't want to see a doctor. If I see a doctor on the first day of the Lunar New Year, I'll be sick every day for the rest of the year."
The main issue is that she took Lianhua Qingwen (a traditional Chinese medicine), and it's uncertain whether it will be detected. If it is, she won't be able to explain herself even if she has a thousand mouths.
"That's superstition," Buyi said, still uneasy.
Bling looked at him defiantly: "You're making a mountain out of a molehill."
The brother and sister were at an impasse.
Liang Boda quickly tried to smooth things over: "Old Bu, listen to your sister. Let's have a good meal of dumplings first, and then take her to the clinic tomorrow. It's really unlucky to see a doctor on the first day of the Lunar New Year."
"Which side are you on?" Bu Yi's eyes flashed coldly.
Liang Boda: "..."
"Little sister, why don't we go see her? It'll put our minds at ease, right? What if her condition gets worse?" Liang Boda shifted the focus.
"No!" Bling turned her head away.
Liang Boda: I'm tired, let's destroy it!
