Chapter 226 Sister Xu

They didn't get to eat lunch until 2 p.m., and even Uncle Sang took a day off to come back and have lunch.

Mulberry went to great lengths to nourish Aunt Sang's body, sparing no effort in preparing the ingredients.

Although there were only three dishes, the portions were very large.

The dishes included braised chicken with mushrooms, braised cabbage with glass noodles, and a milky white fish soup with frozen tofu and dried wood ear mushrooms—all incredibly delicious.

Aunt Sang ate her meal with great satisfaction. Her eldest son's problem was in sight to be resolved, and she had her beloved nephew and niece-in-law by her side. The smile on her face never faded until the bowls and plates were clean.

After dinner, Brother Sang went to wash the dishes, while Sangshen and Buling chatted with Aunt Sang and Uncle Sang.

After Brother Sang finished washing the dishes, he came out and said to Buling, "Sister-in-law, it's getting late, we should get going."

Buling nodded and stood up, and Sangshen followed suit. "Big brother, there's a bowl of chicken I specially left in the kitchen. Take it with you."

Brother Sang's eyes softened slightly. He turned back to the kitchen, grabbed a basket, and put the chicken inside. "Thank you, Xiao Qi!"

Sangshen grunted twice but didn't say anything. He wasn't the kind of person who would forget kindness. The man had saved his older brother's life, so it was only right that he remembered it.

The three of them left the house together. Because of his aunt's attitude, Sang Zhang settled the mother and her three children at the military district guesthouse.

"Knock-knock--knock--"

"Sister-in-law Xu, it's me, Sang Zhang!"

The door opened with a click, revealing a thin figure: "Uncle Sang, come in quickly!"

Sang Zhang rubbed the little girl's head as she opened the door, then went into the room first. Bu Ling and Sang Shen exchanged a glance and followed closely behind. After the last Sang Shen entered the room, the little girl closed the door again.

The four of them, including Sang Zhang, were accommodated in a double room, with two single beds on either side, which was just right for the four of them.

Inside the house, the middle-aged woman who was sitting down immediately stood up when she saw that there were two more people following behind Sang Zhang. She nervously rubbed the hem of her clothes and looked at the three of them.

Seeing this, Sang Zhang quickly explained, "Sister-in-law Xu, these are my younger brother and sister-in-law, Sang Shen and Bu Ling!"

Upon hearing this, Sister Xu gave a shy smile: "Hello, everyone."

Bu Ling smiled and said, "Hello, Sister Xu!"

When Sangzhen saw Sister-in-law Xu for the first time, his brows furrowed. He finally understood why his aunt was so opposed to it. This was completely different from his older brother, as if they were from two different generations. However, he was not an impolite person. "Hello, Sister-in-law Xu!"

Sang Zhang then introduced the two women to Bu Ling and her husband: "This is Sister Xu, and her eldest daughter Daya, second daughter Erya, and third daughter Sanya."

Before arriving, Bu Ling had inquired about the situation of the mother and her three children. During Brother Sang's introduction, he subtly observed them.

The first impression of this mother and her three daughters was that they were very thin, skin and bones, with sunken eyes, which looked particularly eerie, almost as thin as when she first transmigrated.

Noticing the three little girls looking at her timidly, Bu Ling smiled and said, "Hello, Da Ya, Er Ya, San Ya! You can call me Aunt Bu. This is Uncle Xiao Qi!"

The three little girls looked at Aunt Xu at the same time, and Aunt Xu gave them an encouraging look. "Hello, Uncle Xiaoqi! Hello, Aunt Bu!"

"Oh, so good girls!" Bu Ling ruffled the heads of the three little girls one by one, then took out a handful of candy from her bag. "Here, Aunt Bu is giving you candy!"

Sister Xu quickly refused, saying, "How can you do that? Sister, take it back!" As she spoke, she tried to push Bu Ling's hand away.

Buling moved her arm to avoid her and said to Sister Xu, "Sister Xu, please don't be so polite with us." Before she finished speaking, she stuffed the candy into Daya's hand: "Daya is the older sister, so share some with your younger sisters."

Daya looked at the candy in her hand, swallowed hard, but still looked at Aunt Xu first.

Seeing the longing in her daughter's eyes, Aunt Xu sighed and finally said, "Take it, and remember to thank Auntie."

Da Ya smiled and her eyes narrowed: "Thank you, Aunt Bu!"

Bling watched this scene with a smile.

Sister-in-law Xu was very thin, and the mistreatment from her husband's family made her look even older. But even so, she raised her three daughters very well, and they were very polite.

When handing out candy, Bling noticed that the three girls' fingernails were clean, their hair was neat, and even though they were wearing patched clothes, the patches were finely stitched and clean.

At this moment, Sang Zhang brought out the basket: "Sister Xu, this is for you and the three girls. You can heat it up at the canteen tonight before eating."

When Sister Xu saw the chicken in Sang Zhang's hand, her eyes reddened. Thinking of her three daughters' thin and frail appearance, she couldn't bring herself to refuse: "Thank you, Brother Sang."

Sang Zhang placed the chicken on the table and said solemnly, "Sister-in-law, please don't say that. This is what I should do."

Sister-in-law Xu was deeply moved. Seeing the three of them still standing, she quickly said, "Brother Sang, please sit down and talk."

Sang Zhang and his two companions didn't stand on ceremony and sat in a row on the bed on the left, while Xu Saozi and her four daughters sat on the right.

After sitting down, Sang Zhang went straight to the point: "Sister Xu, it's like this, I mentioned before that I wanted to take care of you and your four daughters, and I came here today to ask for your opinion?"

After he finished speaking, Bu Ling quickly added with a smile, "Sister-in-law Xu, my brother didn't think things through before. He was only thinking about taking care of you and Daya, but he forgot to ask for your opinion."

"That's why we've come here to ask you, would you be willing to marry my elder brother?"
