Chapter 27 First Encounter

The next day, Bu Ling got up in high spirits, took his teacup, and went to the water pipe outside to wash up.

I met quite a few elderly people who got up early.

She politely greeted a string of elderly men and women.

In the morning in the courtyard, the sounds of the aunties cooking, the men laughing and scolding the children, and the children making noise create the most ordinary scene.

In this atmosphere, after washing up, Buling walked towards her room and bumped into Granny Lan, who was carrying a bucket.

Granny Lan also saw her, gave her a cold snort, and turned her face away.

Bling wasn't about to give in, and she snorted back even louder.

Granny Lan was so angry she wanted to bite her teeth. She had heard about Granny Shen's incident yesterday, and she really couldn't do anything to this young girl for the time being.

She refused to believe she couldn't beat a little girl; just wait and see!

Bling went back inside, grabbed a piece of sponge cake, and made a cup of brown sugar water, which served as breakfast.

After finishing breakfast, she leisurely washed the clothes, tidied the house, and when she estimated that it was about time, she took her bicycle out of the house and rode out of the yard.

Wu Yuanyuan, who had just come out to wash up, looked at her back with envy.

On the other side, Buling rode his bike for about ten minutes to reach the state-run restaurant. The state-run restaurant opens at ten o'clock, and the employees start work at nine o'clock, so it wasn't open yet.

Bling thought to herself that she still needed to buy a watch, otherwise it would be too inconvenient not being able to tell the time.

She didn't have a watch ticket, so she planned to check out the black market during her break, as she had long yearned for the black market of that era.

They don't sell things there, but you can still go there to buy things.

"Little Bu, you're here so early?" Sister Ma greeted Bu Ling, who was waiting at the door.

"Good morning, Sister Ma. This isn't my first day at work. I'm worried about being late!" Bu Ling said with a smile.

Sister Ma smiled, said nothing, opened the door of the state-run restaurant, and said to Buling, "Little Bu, you should push your bicycle to the backyard. It's easy for it to get bumped and knocked over outside."

"I understand, thank you, Sister Ma," Buling said.

After pushing his bicycle into the backyard, Bling went inside, walked behind the counter, familiarized himself with his work environment and the price list posted on the counter, and then sat on the counter in a daze.

As time went by, the staff of the state-run restaurant arrived one after another. The third to arrive was Han Yu, who greeted Bu Ling warmly.

Remembering Sister Zhang's instructions, Bu Ling smiled politely.

The fourth person to arrive was Manager Zhu of the restaurant. He nodded in satisfaction when he saw Bu Ling sitting behind the counter.

"Good morning, Manager Zhu!" Bu Ling greeted with a smile.

Manager Zhu smiled at her and went into his office.

The layout of the state-run restaurant is not complicated at all. There are two large rooms in total. One room is the kitchen, which is also divided into a small manager's office. The other room is where the guests eat, with a few sets of tables and chairs. The counter of the restaurant is in the middle of the two rooms, with a window. There is also a backyard, which is not big, only about thirty square meters.

A while later, the meat and fresh vegetables supplied by the state-run restaurant arrived. After Manager Zhu handed them over, they were delivered directly to the kitchen.

It was almost nine o'clock when another kitchen helper finally arrived. Buling glanced at the clock in the state-run restaurant; it was exactly nine o'clock, no more, no less. The timing was impeccable.

Tan Xiao saw an unfamiliar face sitting behind the counter, pursed her lips, and pretended not to see it.

Of course, Bu Ling wouldn't offer his help only to be met with indifference.

Tan Xiao went into the kitchen, and soon after, the sounds of Tan Xiao and Han Yu chatting and laughing could be heard.

At 9:30, the head chef of the state-run restaurant finally arrived late. The chef was a plump old man who always had a smile on his face, like a Maitreya Buddha.

Upon seeing Bu Ling, he said kindly, "Is this our restaurant's new waitress, Xiao Zhang's cousin?"

Bu Ling nodded and stood up: "Hello Chef Tan, my name is Bu Ling, and I'm a new waiter."

Chef Tan waved his hand: "Don't call me Chef, don't call me Chef, just call me Uncle Tan."

Bu Ling readily changed his address: "Hello, Uncle Tan."

Grandpa Tan smiled, his eyes crinkling, and walked towards the kitchen with his hands behind his back.

Not long after Grandpa Tan went inside, the laughter stopped, and then the sounds of washing and chopping vegetables could be heard.

A moment later, Tan Xiao came out with a small blackboard and hung it on the counter, still ignoring Bu Ling.

Bling wasn't annoyed. After she left, she looked at what was written on the blackboard.

Today's menu includes braised pork ribs, mutton soup, sweet and sour pork, pork and scallion dumplings, peach blossom noodles, stir-fried bean sprouts, and stir-fried cabbage.

This is what the state-run restaurants are serving today.

As time went by, the first customer gradually entered the state-run restaurant.

Bling cheered

The customer glanced at the small blackboard next to the counter.

"Hello, what would you like to eat?" Buling asked with a smile.

The customer was a little puzzled. When did the waiters at the state-run restaurant become so friendly? But he was in a hurry: "One bowl of peach blossom noodles and one bowl of stir-fried cabbage."

"Peach blossom noodles are 80 cents plus 2 liang of grain coupons, stir-fried cabbage is 50 cents a serving, that's 1.3 yuan plus 2 liang of grain coupons in total." Bu Ling looked at the table on his counter and accurately stated the prices.

The customer paid readily and found a table to sit down.

Buling collected the money and put it in the drawer under the counter, then called out, "One serving of peach blossom noodles and one serving of stir-fried cabbage!"

"Understood!" Tan Xiao replied.

Soon, the aroma of food wafted out from the kitchen. Tanya carried a tray with a bowl of noodles and a cabbage, placed it on the counter, and turned to go back into the kitchen.
