Lin Xiaoxiao struggled in the apocalypse for over ten years. Just as the end was near, she was unfortunately infected and died during a mission.
After death, her soul arrived in the underworl...
Lin Xiaoxiao is currently unaware of the conversation between the two people next door.
She went home intending to take a nap, but ended up sleeping until mid-afternoon.
If He Meng hadn't knocked on her door and woken her up, she could have continued sleeping.
Lin Xiaoxiao felt a little annoyed, thinking to herself, no wonder everyone doesn't want to live with their in-laws.
There is absolutely no freedom.
"What time is it? You're still sleeping. Yu Shen will be home from get off work soon. Get up and cook dinner so Yu Shen can eat when he gets back." He Meng was annoyed by her lazy appearance.
Her son is out there training and working himself to the bone, while she's at home sleeping all day.
Why marry a wife like that, just to keep her as an ornament?
That wretched woman, Yao Huixian, just can't stand to see her son doing well.
If she had known beforehand, she definitely wouldn't have agreed to the marriage.
Lin Xiaoxiao's expression turned cold as she shook off the hand that was reaching out to pull her away. "Ms. He, I have no objection to you staying at my house for two days, but it's best not to meddle in things that aren't your business. You should know my temper. If things get too ugly, it won't be good for anyone."
What the heck?
They've even started interfering with her.
Give her a nice look and she'll really think she can act like a mother-in-law.
He Meng is the kind of person who never learns from mistakes; she thinks she's all good again after a good night's sleep.
Lin Xiaoxiao didn't tolerate her and immediately frowned, warning her.
“You…” He Meng choked, wanting to refute something.
Lin Xiaoxiao didn't give her a chance at all. She went straight out of the room, poured herself a glass of water in the lobby, and then washed her face to clear her head.
For the next while, they remained silent. He Meng wanted to speak, but Lin Xiaoxiao glanced at her and she kept quiet.
Not speaking doesn't mean she won't move.
He wandered around the lobby, moving chairs around and fiddling with ornaments.
It's like having ADHD.
Lin Xiaoxiao couldn't stand her lingering in front of her, so she went straight to the pavilion outside and took out a book from her spatial storage to read.
"The snow is going to be heavy, why are you still outside?" Qin Yushen returned home and immediately saw Lin Xiaoxiao in the pavilion, and walked over.
Hearing his voice, Lin Xiaoxiao pulled herself out of her book, looked up, and rubbed her eyes. "You're back?"
"Hmm." Qin Yushen touched her hand; it was warm, and he felt relieved. "Let's go back inside."
Just as he was about to help her up, Lin Xiaoxiao grabbed his hand and gestured for him to sit down.
Qin Yushen did as she said, sat down next to her, and took a sip of water from his glass.
Lin Xiaoxiao glanced in the direction of the hall and said to him, "Your mother is here. She arrived this morning."
Qin Yushen paused, "What's she doing here?"
"I don't know."
“I asked her but she wouldn’t tell me. I guess she came here specifically to find you.”
During the meal, Lin Xiaoxiao subtly tried to get information out of He Meng, but He Meng kept her mouth shut and refused to say anything.
The less she said, the more Lin Xiaoxiao felt something was amiss.
"Never mind her." Qin Yushen put his arm around her waist, touched her belly, and greeted the baby as usual, "Was the baby good today? Did he/she fuss?"
Ever since the baby started moving, Qin Yushen was afraid that the baby would move too frequently and put a burden on Lin Xiaoxiao.
Lin Xiaoxiao defended her baby, saying, "Our baby is very well-behaved, don't slander her."
"That's good." Qin Yushen smiled and pinched her cheek, the chubby texture making him reluctant to let go.
Lin Xiaoxiao: "......"
What kind of habit is that? Why do you always like to pinch her?
"Go inside quickly, your mom is definitely waiting for you." Lin Xiaoxiao reached out and nudged him.
Qin Yushen pulled her up, and the two went into the hall, where He Meng was sitting on the sofa, waiting as expected.
Upon hearing the sound, He Meng sat up straight.
She waited for quite a while but her son didn't come in. She was getting impatient when he finally came in.
When they came in, they were holding Lin Xiaoxiao's hand, looking at her as if she were something they were protecting, which made He Mengxiang roll her eyes.
"Yu Shen, you're back?" No matter what you think in your heart, you still have to put on a smile.
Qin Yu nodded and asked directly, "Did you come to see me for something?"
He Meng's face stiffened, then she said, "Mom was thinking that she hadn't seen you in a long time, so she came to see you while she still had time before the New Year."
"When are you going back to Jiangcheng?" Qin Yushen asked directly after hearing the question.
"How about Mom stays and spends the New Year with you?" He Meng softened her voice. "It's been many years since we've spent the New Year together."
Qin Yushen: "No need."
I refused without hesitation.
He also took the opportunity to correct her mistake, saying, "It's not that it's been many years, but that it's never happened."
When He Meng was still in Beijing, she would always have Qin Yushen come back to the Qin family home for the Chinese New Year. But when she went to Jiangcheng, He Meng was afraid that others would know that Qin Yushen was her son, so she never let him come to her home for the Chinese New Year.
The journey from the soldiers' barracks to the Zhao family's house was less than twenty minutes, but he hadn't been there even once in over six years.
"How could that be?" But He Meng didn't believe it after hearing that.
Although she doesn't remember much about the past, how could there not have been a single instance?
"There's no need to argue about these useless things." Qin Yushen said expressionlessly. Once he truly let go, he would never care again.
"There's no need for the New Year. You should go back to Jiangcheng. You probably won't want to leave Zhao Yu."
He Meng nodded, "Okay, then I'll stay for three days and then go back."
She never intended to stay for the New Year; it was just a polite formality.
With so much leftover food from lunch, Qin Yushen simply reheated it. He had brought back a fresh hen, so he stewed the chicken while reheating the other dishes.
