Humans have Three Souls and Seven Spirits, ghosts have Nine Netherworld Obsessions and Five Aggregates of Fire. But from the time I was born, I was missing an Earth Soul.
From a young age, I ...
Holy crap?
What's this kid doing? Could he have run into some enemies here?
Before I could even react, Jinye had already run more than ten meters ahead.
I stopped panting when there were no more footsteps behind me, and asked Luo Tianhe, who was also exhausted, his tongue lolling out and breathing heavily.
"Brother Luo, is that your enemy?"
"What's there to hate!"
Luo Tianhe glanced back with lingering fear: "I only said that I was Boss Zeng's employee, and before I could say anything else, those guys flipped the table and were about to beat me up."
My eyes widened in disbelief: "That's an exaggeration?"
"exaggerate?"
Luo Tianhe pointed to his right temple and cursed, "Didn't you see that? That brick just grazed my ear. If I hadn't reacted quickly, would you still be able to talk to me?"
As he spoke, he lit a cigarette and maliciously speculated, "Do you think that bastard Zeng Yonghua might have dug up someone's ancestral grave?"
I said if I wanted to know, I could just ask again.
"Going again?"
Luo Tianhe's eyes widened like saucers: "You really think I'm Iron Man, indestructible or something?"
I said I'd go this time.
But I learned my lesson and didn't go to the small shop I had just visited. Instead, I went around to the other side of the village.
Just then, I saw a young married woman sitting at the door washing her quilt.
I told Luo Tianhe and the others to wait at the corner in the distance, and I went by myself.
As I approached the young woman, I deliberately stomped my feet heavily a few times to attract her attention.
Hearing footsteps, the young woman looked up at me with a puzzled expression.
I flashed what I thought was a bright smile and walked over to say hello.
"Sis, are you washing the blankets?"
She hummed in agreement and picked up the blanket, intending to rinse herself with water.
However, the blanket was quite heavy, and it was a bit difficult for her, a woman, to lift it. I quickly went over to help her hold the other end of the blanket.
"Sis, you need to rinse it a second time, right? Let me help you!"
"Thanks!"
The young woman smiled gratefully at me and asked if I needed anything.
I helped her put the blanket in another basin and then said the words I had already prepared.
"Sister, I'm a staff member sent by the city to conduct rural development research. I'd like to learn about the situation in your village."
The young wife immediately became interested upon hearing this, her face beaming with a warm smile, and she kept calling him "leader" repeatedly.
He quickly washed his hands and warmly invited me inside to sit down and have some fruit.
I raised an eyebrow triumphantly at Luo Tianhe, who was hiding in the shadows.
That's wisdom, unlike his reckless behavior.
Seeing my wife warmly inviting me inside for tea, I quickly declined.
He then asked several more professional questions, such as the village's harvest and infrastructure construction, demonstrating his deep concern for the village.
Then, I casually asked, "Sister, I heard there's a pretty famous person in our village, I think his name is Zeng something-or-other. I heard he's made a lot of money outside. Is he from your village?"
I maintained a calm demeanor on the surface, but my eyes were fixed on my wife's reaction.
The young woman's smile froze instantly, a hint of wariness flashing in her eyes as she looked me up and down, her enthusiasm waning abruptly.
Why are you asking this?
My heart skipped a beat; I had a vague feeling that something was wrong.
But he still pretended to be relaxed and said, "I was just asking. I work in the city and often hear about successful people giving back to their hometowns. I thought that since this person is so capable, he might have done a lot of good things for the village as well."
As soon as she finished speaking, the young woman's face turned extremely ugly, gloomy.
The disgust and anger in his eyes were undisguised.
I asked, feigning nonchalance, "What's wrong, sis? Did I say something wrong?"
"Pah!"
The young woman spat and pointed at my nose, cursing loudly.
"You're not a staff member at all! You just want to find out about that bastard Zeng Yonghua, right? Well, let me show you what you're capable of!"
After saying that, she picked up the dirty water from washing the quilt and splashed it directly on me, shouting at the top of her lungs into the house, "Honey! That beast Zeng Yonghua's men are here, come out now!"
The next second, hurried footsteps came from inside the room.
A burly man rushed out wielding a kitchen knife, pointing his finger menacingly at my nose and roaring, "You dare come back? You haven't learned your lesson, have you? I didn't cripple you last time!"
Holy crap, could Luo Tianhe have been right?
Did the former richest man really dig up all the ancestral graves of the villagers?
Just hearing his name makes these people want to kill him.
When I saw the man's aggressive look, I didn't dare to explain anymore, so I turned around and ran away.
The man's angry roar still echoed behind them: "Don't let me see you again, or I'll beat you every time I see you! You heartless bastard, you dog!"
When I ran up to Luo Tianhe, the kid and Master Jin were laughing so hard they were almost crying.
"Showing off, huh? I'll teach you to be so cocky. You almost got chopped up, didn't you?"
I wiped the cold sweat from my forehead and peeked half my head out from around the corner to look over there.
I noticed the man with the cleaver was still cursing, while his wife was on the phone, occasionally pointing in the direction I was hiding.
It looks like it's a notification.
I told them to stop laughing, because the young woman had called for reinforcements to come and intercept us.
"Holy crap, what are you waiting for? Run!"
Luo Tianhe's smile froze on his face, and he stopped laughing.
When I ran back to the car and stood on the roof looking down at the village, I saw many men, women, and children carrying tools and walking their dogs around the village.
I broke out in a cold sweat immediately.
Luckily we escaped quickly; if we had been any later, we would have been lucky to escape alive.
