Ning Zhiheng strolled out of the room and into the courtyard. The house was quite large, and the courtyard was very clean, with some flowers and plants planted in the middle. The owner was very good at arranging things, and the whole courtyard looked peaceful and elegant.
Just then, a gentle breeze blew by, and the clear, melodious sound of bells filled the air. Hearing this, he felt refreshed and invigorated. Ning Zhiheng looked up and saw that there were several wind chimes hanging under the eaves of the room.
Ning Zhiheng closed his eyes and listened intently to the clear sound of the bell until a gentle breeze blew by, at which point he opened his eyes.
He walked a few steps to the eaves, and with a light leap, picked up a wind chime in his hand. It was a long iron wind chime with a short clasp inside. Ning Zhiheng gently stroked the pattern on the surface, his mind constantly recalling something!
Half an hour later, Wang Shucheng led his team to search the entire residence thoroughly. He reported to Ning Zhiheng with considerable disappointment: "Team leader, we found nothing. The residence was very clean. Apart from some of their valuables and that cheongsam, we found almost nothing."
Ning Zhiheng waved his hand, the wind chimes in his hand making a crisp sound. He looked at Wang Shucheng with a slight smile and said easily, "No, quite the opposite, we've made a lot of progress. The Kang Chunxue couple were very meticulous; there wasn't a single suspicious item in their home. Unfortunately, even the best-laid plans can have oversights!"
Wang Shucheng listened from the side, somewhat confused. He and his men had thoroughly searched all the blind spots, but they found nothing. He wondered where the team leader had found the flaw.
Ning Zhiheng smiled, knowing Wang Shucheng's confusion, and explained, "Have you seen the furnishings and layout of these rooms clearly? What impressions do they give you?"
Upon hearing Ning Zhiheng's words, Wang Shucheng quickly thought back carefully, but in the end he shook his head and said hesitantly, "It's just quite clean, very clean, that's all."
Ning Zhiheng nodded and said, "It seems you've had a hard time. You're right, it's very clean! This is certainly related to the housewife's love of cleanliness and her diligence in cleaning. More importantly, it's the arrangement of their rooms. Didn't you notice that all the furniture in the room is two colors?"
Upon hearing Ning Zhiheng's reminder, Wang Shucheng quickly turned around and went into the room. Sure enough, the furniture inside was only in two colors: a glossy gray-black and a soft milky white.
He ran back to Ning Zhiheng's side and nodded repeatedly, saying, "That's true, but what's the problem?"
Ning Zhiheng shook his head at Wang Shucheng. He couldn't blame Wang Shucheng; he knew that Wang Shucheng came from an ordinary family and had limited experience, so naturally his insight was lacking. This shortcoming could only be gradually made up for in the years to come.
He explained with a smile, "Although the furniture in this house is all very common and no different from that in ordinary homes, the choice of colors reflects the owner's aesthetic views."
In Japan, there is a common belief that the fewer pieces of furniture and colors used in a room, the cleaner the room will appear. If you are worried about the colors being too monotonous, you can add another color, which must be in stark contrast to the previous colors. Therefore, most Japanese homes use two contrasting colors as the base color scheme, making the room look very clean and tidy at a glance!
However, our country's home furnishing concepts are still relatively traditional, so this kind of home arrangement is not common.
Hearing Ning Zhiheng's words, Wang Shucheng felt a little embarrassed and said, "But I really don't see any difference. Although I don't quite understand what you're saying, team leader, there isn't much furniture in this house. It's almost all the essential furniture for a home!"
Ning Zhiheng didn't dwell on that, and continued, "And that radio!"
"A radio?" Wang Shucheng was taken aback. He had seen the radio before and even opened the back cover to check it, finding nothing unusual.
"Most people put their radios in the living room, but this radio is in the bedroom, which is a bit unusual."
Normally, people subconsciously place the most important things in the place closest to them, but they put an old-fashioned radio in their bedroom, which shows that they value it very much.
I tested the audio, and the radio works perfectly. The reception quality is excellent, and the brass tuning knobs are very smooth, indicating frequent use.
“You mean they often use this radio to listen to radio broadcasts, or to receive instructions from the Japanese spy headquarters?” Wang Shucheng immediately understood Ning Zhiheng’s meaning. “Yes! It’s really illogical to always listen to radio broadcasts in the bedroom. Only this explanation makes sense.”
Ning Zhiheng picked up the wind chime he was holding and handed it over, saying, "Do you know what this is?"
Wang Shucheng took the wind chime and examined it closely, then asked in confusion, "Isn't this just an ordinary wind chime? What's wrong with it?"
In China, it's not uncommon for ordinary people to hang wind chimes on the eaves of their homes. Wang Shucheng examined it carefully for a long time but still couldn't figure it out!
Ning Zhiheng reached out and took the wind chime from his hand, explaining carefully, "It is indeed a wind chime! However, in our country, wind chimes have two uses. First, they are used to scare away birds. In the past, the roofs of houses were made of wood, and there were many gaps in the structure. Many birds would build nests in the gaps, which would produce a lot of droppings, which was not only unhygienic but also polluted the wood and affected its lifespan. When the wind chimes were hung, they would make a crisp sound when the wind blew, which would scare away the birds."
