Chapter 380 Finding the Nest

They continued to wander around for a long time and finally found out that there was a large courtyard on South Street where many students lived.

Ning Zhiheng and Dai Junlun quickly went to the address and found several young men standing at the gate of a large courtyard, talking to each other. Ning Zhiheng gestured for Dai Junlun to go up and start a conversation.

Dai Junlun nodded and went up to chat with the young men. He was eloquent and soon they were having a lively conversation. It turned out that they were a support group from Jiangxi Province who had just arrived a few days ago and were discussing how to organize publicity and visit Chinese troops stationed there.

Seeing that Ning Zhiheng was taciturn, the young people didn't pay much attention to him. Knowing that they were students who had failed to join the army, they all showed great enthusiasm. Ning Zhiheng observed them from the side and secretly made his own assessment during their conversation with Dai Junlun.

However, he found nothing unusual about the faces brimming with youthful smiles or the details of the young people's conversations. He believed that if they were really Japanese agents, they couldn't have done it so realistically. Just their standard Jiangxi accents alone were not easy to imitate. It seemed that this group of young people was genuine.

By this time it was already dark. Since they had not found anything unusual, Ning Zhiheng and Dai Junlun declined the students' offers to stay and took their leave.

The two arrived at the agreed location and met up with the other groups. Seeing that everyone was there, Ning Zhiheng asked them in a low voice, and learned that although they had all been in contact with some groups, they had only learned some basic information and had not made any discoveries.

Ning Zhiheng was not disappointed. The investigation had only just begun, and things would not be so easy. He had to be patient. Ning Zhiheng led his men back to the Ximan warehouse, where Sun Jiacheng quickly came out to greet them.

"Team leader, did you find anything today?" Sun Jiacheng asked.

"What a coincidence! I grabbed someone as soon as I stepped out the door. Did you think this was Nanjing?" Ning Zhiheng said with a smile.

With the right timing, location, and people, Ning Zhiheng's actions in Nanjing were incredibly smooth. As long as these spies took any action, they could not escape his grasp. At his most successful moment, Ning Zhiheng arrested fourteen Japanese spies in a single day, and in batches at that. This achievement amazed everyone!

But now we are in Pudong, a remote area, and a rural area with chaotic population management. We are unfamiliar with both the people and the place, so how can we be so adept at it?

“Yes, if this were in Nanjing, we wouldn’t need to go through all this trouble. We could just block off the street and search every house. We wouldn’t have to worry about these people running away!” Sun Jiacheng couldn’t help but exclaim.

Seeing that the surroundings were relatively quiet, Ning Zhiheng asked, "How long have Yue Ze and the others been gone?"

Huo Yueze led three squadrons to escort a large quantity of medicines and supplies to Chenyanwan. Even by car, the journey would take two hours, so they had already set off ahead of schedule.

“They’ve been gone for half an hour already. Don’t worry, they’re being escorted by three whole squadrons. The Japanese plainclothes officers can’t handle them,” Sun Jiacheng replied.

"Maybe he's hoping the plainclothes officers will show up, so he won't have to search for them everywhere."

Ever since missing that decisive battle, Huo Yueze and his men had been filled with regret and were eager to try again.

However, as Sun Jiacheng said, with such heavy escort, the Japanese plainclothes officers were not fools. Given the disparity in strength, they would not target this transport team.

Ning Zhiheng waved his hand and said, "Then let's forget about it. Those medicines are of great importance and cannot be compromised in the slightest. I hope Yue Ze and the others have a smooth journey and can safely transport the medicines across the river."

More than an hour later, the other groups of student soldiers also returned one after another and reported the day's reconnaissance situation to Ning Zhiheng, but they also found nothing.

Ning Zhiheng recorded and summarized their accounts. He did not expect these student soldiers to have superhuman eyesight and discover the traces of the Japanese plainclothes team directly. He only asked them to have a preliminary understanding of the situation so that he could analyze it and find some clues, which would save a lot of time.

At 11 p.m., the sound of a car engine could be heard outside the warehouse. Ning Zhiheng knew that Huo Yueze had returned, so he quickly went to the gate to greet him.

The transport went smoothly this time. Huo Yueze led the convoy with caution and delivered the medicines and supplies to Chenyan Bay. You Laoliu and his fleet picked up the goods on time. However, there were too many supplies and the small boats could not carry enough, so the fleet had to make several trips back and forth, which wasted a lot of time.

You Laoliu was also surprised by the amount of supplies. He was quite taken aback by the large amount of supplies and secretly clicked his tongue. Sure enough, the soldiers were more skilled. He could only steal, but they simply carried them. The level was different!

Finally, Huo Yueze told You Laoliu that there were still a lot of supplies in the warehouse that needed to be transported. He would continue to pick up the goods on time tomorrow night and try to transport all the supplies as soon as possible. This shocked You Laoliu so much that his eyelids twitched, and he quickly agreed.

After the goods were transported across the Huangpu River, Ji Hongyi and his team kept a close eye on the loading and transportation, and promptly delivered the medicines to major hospitals overnight. This immediately brought great joy to the medical staff in all the hospitals, who quickly administered the medicines to the wounded. Every minute saved could save more lives, and there was absolutely no time to lose.

The other goods were naturally handled by You Laoliu, who transported them into the concession and sold them at high prices. However, You Laoliu earned a share of the profits, while the rest were entrusted to Ji Hongyi for safekeeping, awaiting Ning Zhiheng's arrangements.

The situation remained the same on the second day. Ning Zhiheng still led the student soldiers to various places to collect information. According to the information they provided, Ning Zhiheng personally contacted these groups and carefully verified them, but still found nothing. The screening work did not make much progress, so he could only be patient and take it slowly.
