Propelled headlong into the relentless currents of history, Ji Yu finds himself transplanted to the tumultuous prelude to WWII.
Once an ordinary civil servant in his modern existence, Ji Yu i...
The vehicle rammed through the gate and drove straight into the police station compound.
Everyone in the car breathed a sigh of relief, but to their surprise, the vehicle did not stop, but instead sped straight forward.
Then, with a loud crash, the car slammed heavily against the building wall. The people inside the car were so shaken by the violent impact that they felt a tightness in their chests and almost coughed up blood.
When everyone came to their senses, they discovered that the driver was slumped over the steering wheel, motionless, with a gaping hole in his back from which blood was seeping out.
"Ohara!"
Kimura Maki let out a wail, and just then, several shouts came from outside the car.
Who are you?
"Do not move!"
"Hands up, everyone!"
They looked up at the sound and saw that the car was surrounded by police officers, all pointing their guns at the people inside.
Kimura Maki hurriedly shouted, "Who is the commander? Quickly catch the assassin! We are from the Fujiwara Company. Chairman Fujiwara is in the car. Go and call a doctor!"
These words immediately startled the surrounding police officers. One officer stepped forward and said urgently, "I am the duty sergeant, Hitoshi Takada. I heard the gunshots and have just assembled!"
The eastern part of Shanghai is a major area where Japanese people congregate. The police stations there are mainly staffed by Japanese officers, with only a small number of Chinese police officers.
These Japanese police officers were mostly military-trained and quite capable in combat. When they heard the gunshots, they quickly gathered their personnel, assembled their teams, and prepared to set off to investigate the cause.
It took Ning Zhiheng less than ten minutes from the time he was attacked to the time he escaped into the police station. He rushed into the police compound just as the police were assembling.
At this moment, Ning Zhiheng pushed open the car door and got out of the car.
Because Hirao Daichi had been shot in the shoulder and lost a lot of blood, the two of them lay together while dodging bullets, resulting in Ning Zhiheng also being covered in blood. In addition, the deep groove in his hair from the bullet wound was quite conspicuous, making him look extremely disheveled.
He glanced around and said in a deep voice, "I am Fujiwara Tomohito. Immediately notify the Military Police Headquarters and the Special Higher Police. Someone is trying to assassinate me. Have their leaders come here to see me!"
When Takada Hitoshi heard the name Fujiwara Tomohito, he was immediately startled. These police officers had a clear understanding of the residents in their jurisdiction, especially the high-ranking officials and dignitaries living there.
The Japanese have very strict household registration management in Shanghai. They frequently check household registrations, and Fujiwara Tomohito, the chairman of the Fujiwara Company, is a person they pay close attention to. Therefore, Takada Hitoshi has met Ning Zhiheng.
Upon closer inspection, he recognized Chairman Fujiwara and quickly bowed, saying loudly, "Yes, sir! I will immediately pursue the assassin and notify the Military Police Headquarters and the Special Higher Police."
Now that Chairman Fujiwara has been assassinated, this is a very serious matter. He dared not delay and quickly waved his hand to signal the police behind him to get into their cars, exit the gate, and give chase.
When the target's vehicle turned into the police station, the team knew that the assassination had failed. Without stopping, they immediately turned around, retraced their steps, picked up Captain Wei Xuehai and others, and sped away.
By the time the police cars arrived, the fleeing officers had already gone far away. However, the police cars continued to search in the direction the fleeing officers had fled, and their sirens were constantly blaring, carrying far into the darkness.
Ning Zhiheng turned to look at the people around him. Apart from the bodyguard leader Kimura Maki, who was uninjured, Hirao Daichi had been shot in the shoulder. The destructive power of a rifle bullet is much greater than that of a pistol bullet. He was bleeding profusely and his face was deathly pale.
The fate of the driver, Xiaoyuan, is also unknown.
"Quickly call the doctor to stop the bleeding on Hirao and check on Kohara's condition!" Ning Zhiheng urged anxiously.
Although these people were all Japanese, they had known each other for a long time and were loyal to him. They had risked their lives to protect him and were shot and injured. Ning Zhiheng was also anxious, especially since Hirao Daichi was now his capable assistant and handled many important matters of the Fujiwara Company. If something unexpected really happened, Ning Zhiheng was afraid he would be caught off guard and unable to cope.
Upon hearing the order, Takada Hitoshi quickly directed the rescue efforts, sending someone to fetch a doctor from a nearby hospital, and simultaneously bringing a first-aid kit to stop the bleeding for Hirao Daichi.
As for the driver, Kohara, he was also carried out of the car by the police. Takada Hitoshi checked his breathing with his hand and quickly shook his head regretfully at Ning Zhiheng.
"Baka!" Ning Zhiheng cursed fiercely!
Just then, a faint burst of gunfire could be heard in the distance, followed by two loud explosions. Soon after, sirens blared throughout the city.
Accompanied by Takada Hitoshi, Ning Zhiheng went to the duty room to rest. He was currently located in the eastern part of Shanghai, while the Book Building was located in the northeastern part of Shanghai. What he needed to do now was to try to mobilize the Japanese military forces to move closer to him in order to coordinate with the Shanghai Station's attack on the Book Building.
Even so, he did not believe that Taro Sagawa would be fooled. Given Taro Sagawa's extensive intelligence experience, the operation in Shanghai was unlikely to succeed.
He picked up the phone and made calls to the military police, the Special Higher Police, and the local garrison, explaining the situation in an extremely stern tone and ordering them to come and pursue the assassin immediately to protect their personal safety.
The duty officer at the Military Police Headquarters was Major Naoki Tsuda, a good friend of Takeshi Ishikawa. He had even drunk with Ning Zhiheng a few times before, but now that Ning Zhiheng's position was rising, he rarely had contact with these mid-level officers anymore.
