Once an ordinary civil servant in his modern existence, Ji Yu i...
Just as Taro Sagawa was lost in thought, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in!"
He Siming pushed the door open and walked in. He turned around and closed the door tightly. He took a few steps forward and said, "Section Chief, I just came back from the Military Police Headquarters. Colonel Katsuta doesn't seem very enthusiastic about our joint establishment of a telecommunications group. I'm just a nobody, but you and Colonel Katsuta have been friends for many years. It seems that you'll have to speak up."
Sagawa Taro smiled mysteriously, pointed at He Siming and said, "If I were to speak up, what would I need you for?"
He Siming was taken aback. He looked at Sagawa Taro with some confusion. Sagawa Taro's words seemed to have a hidden meaning, but He Siming couldn't understand them for a moment.
He hesitated for a moment, then his eyes suddenly lit up, as if he had figured something out.
It turns out that Sagawa Taro's repeated trips to contact the military police headquarters to establish a communications team were for Eguchi Ryusei's benefit. Sagawa Taro himself was unwilling to help Eguchi Ryusei establish this communications team, or at least unwilling to establish it so readily.
He Siming had known for a long time that Sagawa Taro and Tsuchihara Keiji were not on good terms. If he hadn't pleaded with the Otani family, Sagawa Taro would have almost fallen into Tsuchihara Keiji's trap.
Now, Keiji Tsuchihara has even sent his own student to be the head of the intelligence group. As soon as Ryusei Eguchi arrived at the Special Higher Police, he boldly set up a communications group. If it succeeds, Ryusei Eguchi will be the one to take the credit, and Taro Sagawa won't get much benefit.
So at first, Sagawa Taro was just going through the motions to comply with Eguchi Ryusei's request, sending himself to the military police headquarters to make contact repeatedly, all for Eguchi Ryusei's benefit. Colonel Katsuta Takashi was well aware that without Sagawa Taro calling him, he wouldn't have given in.
Having suddenly realized this, He Siming couldn't help but smile bitterly. He spread his hands and said to Taro Sagawa, "Section Chief, could you please be more clear-headed in the future? I knew I shouldn't have wasted so much breath. My mouth is dry from talking."
Taro Sagawa pointed at He Siming and said, "You've always been a clever person. I thought you already knew what was going on, but it turns out you needed to be taught a lesson."
He Siming felt relieved and stopped worrying about it, then asked with a smile, "Should I still go and make an appearance?"
After thinking for a moment, Sagawa Taro nodded and said, "You should delay a bit longer. Wait until Eguchi Ryusei comes to me in person, and then I'll do him a favor."
To be honest, Taro Sagawa himself was still willing to form a telecommunications team. After all, forming a professional telecommunications team with complete equipment and advanced technology would indeed play a very important role in monitoring intelligence radio stations in the Shanghai area. Taro Sagawa was diligent and responsible in his official duties.
Sagawa Taro was simply dissatisfied with Eguchi Ryusei's attitude. Like Kitaoka Ryoko, Eguchi Ryusei had begun to implement his own set of ideas as soon as he arrived in Shanghai.
Kitaoka Ryoko initially led a large number of agents from the North China headquarters directly to the French Concession for undercover work, without obtaining Sagawa Taro's consent at all, and did things her own way, which Sagawa Taro could do nothing about.
Now, Ryusei Eguchi is doing the same thing. He brought a large amount of telecommunications equipment from North China. As soon as he took office, he asked the Military Police Headquarters for equipment and personnel to form a new telecommunications group, which greatly angered Taro Sagawa.
This is utterly absurd! The Military Police Headquarters is of a higher rank than the Special Higher Police, so even Taro Sagawa wouldn't dare to say such a thing. Ryusei Eguchi is not unaware of this, but he's relying on Keiji Tsuchihara's influence!
Because of Tsuchihara Keiji, Sagawa Taro was unwilling to offend him. However, he was experienced and had his own way of dealing with it. He deliberately made the liaison officer Takeshita Shinya make several trips to make a show of it and first wear down Eguchi Ryusei's arrogance. Only when Eguchi Ryusei was anxious to come to him would Sagawa Taro step in to facilitate the matter.
Ultimately, Sagawa Taro was very dissatisfied with both of these intelligence team leaders. Relying on their mentors, their attitude towards Sagawa Taro, their superior, was far less respectful than that of Imai Yuji. Sagawa Taro had no choice but to use some means to work them out.
"During your contact with various intelligence agencies, have you heard any rumors?" Sagawa Taro continued.
"What aspects are you referring to?" He Siming blinked, not quite understanding what Sagawa Taro meant, and asked.
"Regarding news about the Tsuchihara Agency, Tsuchihara Keiji came to headquarters today and announced that he will be returning to North China immediately to carry out a defection mission. The work in Shanghai will be handed over to Major General Kagesa Hiroki, a senior officer of the Central China Expeditionary Army. At this crucial moment of forming a new government, his sudden transfer from Shanghai and change of leadership seems a bit suspicious. You should take some time to travel around and inquire with other agencies to see if any other rumors are circulating."
He Siming's heart skipped a beat, and a look of suspicion appeared on his face. He said, "Chief Tu Yuan is going back to North China? Aren't you overthinking it? Perhaps it's a very important defection mission, and the personnel changes are just temporary arrangements!"
"It's just a matter of persuading Wu Peide in Beiping to join the new government and build a team. It's not that difficult. He can get high-ranking positions and regain military power. Why wouldn't he want to do it? Besides, if he doesn't want to, there are plenty of others who will! There's no need for Lieutenant General Keiji Tsuchihara to personally visit an outdated warlord. Moreover, it shouldn't be someone from the Central China Expeditionary Army who takes over the work in Shanghai. I always feel that something is wrong."
“It does defy common sense!” He Siming nodded and whispered his guess. “Could it be that the Central China side has done some work and gained the upper hand at headquarters, preparing to squeeze out the North China side’s forces? After all, Shanghai is Central China’s territory. The Tuyuan Agency is responsible for setting up the new government, and it will definitely gain the authority to guide the new government in the future. This is too tempting for an intelligence agency. The Central China side is definitely not willing to give up. It’s not too late to take over now.”
