Chapter Ninety-Three Investigation and Analysis

Having escaped unscathed, Ning Zhiheng swiftly ran across the rooftops, covering two blocks before arriving at a courtyard where he saw several pieces of clothing hanging in the yard.

He looked at the clothes he was wearing. He had changed into them specially last night. They were all dark-colored casual clothes, which were most suitable for the night.

But now that it was already daylight, his clothes would be quite conspicuous on the street. With that thought in mind, he went down from the roof, took down the clothes that were drying, put them on as quickly as possible, and then climbed over the wall.

He quickly returned home, arriving at eight in the morning. He hurriedly took off his clothes and soft-soled shoes, changed into his usual clothes and leather shoes, tidied himself up, and headed out to work at the military intelligence office.

Meanwhile, at the entrance of Zhongkang Traditional Chinese Medicine Store, Shen Le, director of the Nanjing Party Affairs Investigation Office, was listening to a case report from Wen Hao and Duan Xingzhou.

After summarizing the information he had gathered, Wen Hao stepped forward and reported to Shen Le: "Director, based on the information provided by field team members Guo Ming and Li Feiyang, as well as our interviews with some citizens who were present at the time, we have summarized the situation as follows."

At 7:00 AM, Guo Ming, who was on surveillance duty, spotted Wu Quanjiang and another accomplice leaving the pharmacy disguised as pharmacy clerks. Zheng Mingshan was preparing to follow and monitor them when he received orders to immediately arrest Wu Quanjiang. They carried out the arrest immediately, and a brief firefight ensued, during which one of the accomplices was wounded in the leg.

Later, two more accomplices came in from the street corner and joined Wu Quanjiang. Zheng Mingshan had already cornered them in the alleyway on the side of the street, but suddenly a masked gunman appeared behind them. This gunman was accurate and agile, and within two minutes, he shot and killed seven agents, including Zheng Mingshan.

Meanwhile, Wu Quanjiang and his accomplices fled towards the street corner, but Li Feiyang and other action team members arrived and blocked them back.

The masked gunmen attacked again, killing two members of the operation and cornering Li Feiyang and his men at the street corner. Wu Quanjiang and his accomplices took the opportunity to escape!

Li Feiyang and his team confronted the masked gunman for about ten minutes. The masked gunman withdrew on his own before our reinforcements arrived.

After listening to Wen Hao's analysis report, Shen Le remained silent for a long time. Finally, he gave a bitter laugh and said helplessly, "In other words, this gunman killed nine of our team members in just a few minutes, covered Wu Quanjiang and his accomplices' retreat, and left unharmed and calmly."

After saying that, he glanced sideways at Duan Xingzhou beside him and said sarcastically, "Captain Duan, isn't the tactical training of the action team too leisurely? Even killing nine pigs would make them squeal a couple of times! Letting a single gunman kill them all, leaving them covered in dust and bruises, how am I supposed to write this report?"

Duan Xingzhou hung his head in dejection, speechless! Being mocked to his face by his boss was worse than being slapped across the face! He was so ashamed that he wanted to crawl into a hole in the ground!

Seeing Duan Xingzhou's embarrassed state, Wen Hao couldn't bear it and spoke up to help him out, saying, "Director, the action team certainly bears a lot of responsibility for what happened today, but this gunman is too powerful! We believe he is the murderer who killed Zhang Pei and the other two people early this morning."

"Oh? Why do you make that judgment?" Shen Le was startled upon hearing this and quickly asked.

“We didn’t find anything in the apartment in the safe house, but the killer made a mistake. Although he had cleared all the traces in the apartment, he overlooked the footprints left on the outside of the back wall of the apartment. We extracted the shoe prints.”

We just retrieved shoe prints from the roof where the gunman stayed, and after comparison, we found that both the size and the pattern of the soles were exactly the same!

At the same time, both the murderer who killed Zhang Pei and the gunman who shot and killed nine members of the action team showed a common trait: they were extremely agile and had strong combat capabilities.

Another point is the continuity of the case. After murdering Zhang Pei and two team members at 2:00 AM, the killer searched for Wu Quanjiang's information and then alerted Wu Quanjiang. Wu Quanjiang disguised himself as a pharmacy clerk and attempted to escape. The killer then helped him escape successfully. The development of the case is very continuous, so it should be correct!

After listening to Wen Hao's analysis, Shen Le pondered for a moment, then suddenly frowned, realizing something was amiss. She said, "What you said makes a lot of sense, but the timing doesn't match up. The murderer had already obtained the information by 2 a.m., and the apartment is only about a 50-minute walk from here. So Wu Quanjiang should have received the news of being exposed around 3 a.m., but he didn't escape until dawn. Escaping at night would have been more advantageous for him! What was he doing for those nearly three hours?"

Hearing Shen Le's question, Wen Hao nodded in agreement and then explained, "This is not contradictory. It only shows that the murderer and Wu Quanjiang had no connection in the underground party organization. They did not know each other. If he directly approached Wu Quanjiang to report the crime, he would not be able to gain Wu Quanjiang's trust. This requires an intelligence transmission process, which takes some time!"

Wen Hao truly lived up to his reputation as a master detective. His analysis of Ning Zhiheng was incredibly insightful, dissecting his actions step by step with almost no errors!

Shen Le nodded. As his capable assistant, he had great trust in Wen Hao's analytical abilities.

"So, do you now have a more intuitive description of this murderer?" Shen Le asked!

"According to Guo Ming's description, the murderer had short hair, a medium build, and was between 1.72 and 1.75 meters tall. He was very strong in close combat and had accurate marksmanship. Every member of the operation who was killed was shot in the head and died on the spot! This also confirms our previous judgment that he was probably a martial arts expert from the underworld who later joined the army and learned military combat techniques and accurate shooting skills."
