Chapter Sixty-Two: Aftermath Work

Lying on the ground, Ning Zhiheng felt sore and weak all over, and was extremely annoyed. This time, he had lost everything and almost lost his life. He didn't even know if he had any internal injuries.

This time, we were careless again. The target suddenly wanted to escape, and there was no time to arrange a capture. We rushed into action and ran into a tough opponent.

At the last moment, Cui Hai didn't hesitate at all and directly detonated the grenade hidden on his body, intending to die together with himself. This decisiveness was beyond Ning Zhiheng's expectations.

More importantly, they failed to obtain his memories in the end. This Cui Hai must be a high-ranking spy in the Japanese Special Higher Police, and the secrets in his mind must be extremely valuable. It's such a pity that they missed out! Their luck was really bad this time!

Sun Jiacheng watched Ning Zhiheng for a while, and only after confirming that his captain seemed to be alright did he step forward to help Ning Zhiheng up, and hesitantly asked, "Captain, are you feeling alright?"

Ning Zhiheng said irritably, "He's not dead yet! Quickly call the department to send someone to handle the aftermath!"

Sun Jiacheng quickly agreed and went to find a phone to notify the military intelligence department.

Ning Zhiheng touched the bloodstains around his mouth after vomiting blood and felt a tightness and pain in his chest. However, his physical condition was beyond that of ordinary people. He tried to move his body and found that there was nothing seriously wrong for the time being.

He found the suitcase that Kawakami Kenta had just thrown away, opened it, and rummaged through it. It contained only two changes of clothes and toiletries. Finding nothing of value, he angrily threw the suitcase aside.

At this moment, Sun Jiacheng returned after making the call and said, "I have already notified the department. Team Leader Wei heard that you were injured, Captain, and said he would personally lead the team to handle the situation."

Ning Zhiheng nodded. The next operation had to be taken over by the Military Intelligence Department. The failure to capture Cui Hai meant that the remaining contact was the liaison. It was estimated that Shao Wenguang would bring his information by tonight at the latest.

This contact must be an important person, otherwise Cui Hai wouldn't have met with him before leaving. It's very likely that he wanted to explain something, or even that he might be the new organizer of the Shadow Group.

With Cui Hai dead, the only hope for tracking down the Shadow Group rests on this newly emerged contact.

He didn't know how long Cui Hai's death could be kept secret from the Special Higher Police Headquarters, but he was certain that a prolonged period of being out of contact would arouse the Special Higher Police's suspicion and prompt them to react quickly.

Because Cui Hai likely knew the identities of all members of the Shadow Group, including its leader's cover identity. His disappearance would certainly prompt the Special Higher Police Headquarters to immediately put the Shadow Group into complete hibernation, or even evacuate.

The work of secret agents is dangerous and rigorous. They never take chances and always deal with all kinds of emergencies with the worst-case scenario in mind and the greatest suspicion.

Ning Zhiheng felt that there was no time to delay; the contact person had to be arrested, and action had to be taken before the Special Higher Police headquarters could react.

However, this arrest operation must be carried out flawlessly. We must be extremely cautious and go all out to ensure that nothing like what happened to Cui Hai happens again!

As he was pondering this, a police whistle suddenly sounded in the distance, followed by the sound of footsteps. Several patrol officers, carrying batons and blowing whistles, ran over.

Their reaction speed is incredible. If it were a murder in the street, the killer would have been long gone by now, given their reaction speed.

The patrol officers rushed over and saw that the entrance to the Yunlai Hotel was completely destroyed by the bomb, and the scene was a mess. A person covered in blood was lying on the ground, obviously dead.

The other two people, whose clothes were also torn, stood there looking disheveled and were clearly participants in the incident.

A leading patrolman took two steps closer, pointed his baton, and shouted, "Who are you two? Committing violence in the street! Under the emperor's nose, do you have no respect for the law?! Come with us to the police station."

After he finished speaking, several patrol officers around him chimed in and gathered around, shouting and cheering.

Ning Zhiheng was in a very bad mood, and he didn't bother to pay attention to the patrol officers.

Sun Jiacheng was also furious when he saw this, and cursed, "You blind fools! If we were really the murderers, would you guys be here to die?" After saying that, he pulled out a pistol from his waist and pointed it directly at the patrol officers.

This action immediately terrified the patrol officers, who were so scared they almost wet themselves under the gun.

The lead patrolman quickly raised his hands and begged for mercy, "Don't shoot! Don't shoot! Please, don't shoot! We're just trying to make a living. Just ignore us and let us go."

The remaining cowards quickly begged for mercy, wishing they had stayed far away if they had known there were armed bandits! Now they'd run into a brick wall, and their legs were broken from kicking them!

Ning Zhiheng didn't bother to watch their ugly behavior. These patrolmen were just for show anyway; no one really expected them to solve cases. He waved for Sun Jiacheng to put away his gun and said coldly, "This is none of your police station's business. We are officers from the Military Intelligence Bureau. We will handle this. You guys go and maintain order at the scene and don't let anyone near."

After saying that, he took out his ID and threw it over. The lead patrolman quickly caught it, opened it, and felt relieved.

A major murder occurred on the street they were patrolling. This was a big deal, and they could easily get themselves into trouble! But now the military intelligence department had taken the blame, so they and their men wouldn't have to bear any responsibility.

The lead patrolman quickly replied, "Understood, understood, sir. Don't worry, we will definitely maintain order at the scene." After saying that, he respectfully handed his identification to Ning Zhiheng with both hands, and then quickly called to his colleagues to spread out and block onlookers from getting close.
