Final Chapter Two

Given the ever-changing circumstances and uncertain future in the military, keeping his younger brother by his side would not only ensure his career advancement but, more importantly, guarantee his safety.

Hearing Zuo Rou's words, Ning Zhiheng raised his hand to check the time and said, "I have some things to take care of later, so I'm afraid I won't have time to see him. Tell him to come over for dinner tonight, cook some good dishes, he likes sweets, and we can talk at home!"

"Okay, I'll let him know!"

Just then, the phone on his desk rang. Ning Zhiheng picked it up and heard a voice on the other end say, "Wait a moment!"

After saying that, he looked up at Zuo Rou.

Zuo Rou understood Ning Zhiheng's meaning. The Military Intelligence Bureau's secrecy regulations were extremely strict. No one, not even Ning Zhiheng's closest person, was allowed to linger at the scene when Ning Zhiheng was on the phone.

"I'm going to call Zhiming!" Zuo Rou said softly, then turned and left.

Seeing that the door was closed, Ning Zhiheng picked up the microphone and continued, "Go on, speak!"

The voice on the other end continued to report the situation, and Ning Zhiheng's expression became increasingly calm. After a long while, he only said briefly, "Since it's confirmed, arrest him. You interrogate him personally and report back to me as soon as possible."

After finishing speaking, he put down the phone, turned around and went to the window, pushed open the glass window, looked at the scenery outside the window, and had a serious expression.

At the entrance of Operations Division Two, a tall, beautiful female officer strode out of the office building, walked to the parked car, opened the door, and was about to step into the car.

Just then, a voice suddenly came from behind her.

"Section Chief Gu, where are you going?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Ruolan turned around and saw Zhao Jiang standing not far behind her, looking at her calmly.

"Section Chief Zhao, you startled me. What's up? Did you need something?" Gu Ruolan smiled sweetly, her gaze captivating and alluring.

But Zhao Jiang seemed oblivious. He stepped forward and said, "Section Chief Gu, the Director wants to see you."

"Chief?...Okay!" Gu Ruolan was taken aback for a moment, but immediately nodded in agreement.

She closed the car door, turned and walked towards the office building. Zhao Jiang followed closely behind, entered the gate, went up the stairs, and soon arrived at the director's office, but the guard at the door reached out to stop her.

"Section Chief Gu, please leave your sidearm behind!"

Gu Ruolan was startled. She glanced at the guards, then turned to look at Zhao Jiang. She had never handed over her weapons when she met with the director before.

Zhao Jiang remained expressionless and said coldly, "These are extraordinary times. Please cooperate, Section Chief Gu."

Gu Ruolan was filled with anxiety, but she forced herself to remain calm, showing no sign of anything amiss.

"Of course I should obey..."

She drew her sidearm from her waist and handed it to the guard, but the guard still wouldn't move aside. Gu Ruolan shrugged and explained, "I only have one sidearm!"

Zhao Jiang, who was standing to the side, said, "Section Chief Gu, you still have a steel needle hidden in your left arm!"

Upon hearing this, Gu Ruolan's heart tightened, and she abruptly turned to look at Zhao Jiang, her face turning somewhat pale.

He had a steel needle hidden in his left arm, a secret known to few. Within the Military Intelligence Bureau, only one person knew it: the section chief, Ning Zhiheng.

When she was captured by the Chief in Chongqing, this steel needle was found on her arm. In other words, the disarming of her was not for all those who came to see her, but was specifically ordered by the Chief to be targeted at her. Gu Ruolan naturally understood what this meant.

After removing the steel needle from her arm, Zhao Jiang pushed open the door and gestured for Gu Ruolan to enter.

Upon seeing Gu Ruolan enter, Zuo Rou raised an eyebrow, making no attempt to hide the wariness in her eyes, and stepped forward to open the door to the director's office.

"The comrade is waiting for you!"

Gu Ruolan didn't speak, but took a deep breath to calm herself before stepping into the office.

Zuo Rou closed the door from the outside, then instructed Zhao Jiang, "You all wait here, ready to be dispatched at any time!"

"Yes!" Zhao Jiang and several guards immediately nodded in acceptance.

"Chief, you wanted to see me?" Gu Ruolan stood up straight and reported to Ning Zhiheng.

Ning Zhiheng looked at his subordinate with a deep gaze, nodded slightly, and pushed an interrogation record in front of her.

“Last night, someone ambushed my convoy on the road, intending to attack it. Zhao Jiang captured several of them. Here is one of the interrogation records. Take a look!”

Gu Ruolan steeled herself, stepped forward to take the interrogation record, and carefully reviewed it. After a short while, she felt relieved.

The interrogation record shows that the assassins who killed Ning Zhiheng were all undercover agents left behind by the Japanese after their retreat. Their mission was naturally to avoid failure and prepare for a counterattack against China. These assassins belonged to an intelligence group codenamed "Nine Dogs."

The Military Intelligence Bureau was not unaware of these Japanese agents. In particular, the Shanghai Intelligence Section had obtained accurate intelligence about the plan long before the Japanese withdrew. As a result, the Second Operations Division specially selected elite soldiers to form a special investigation section to target these Japanese infiltrating organizations. The person in charge was Gu Ruolan, the head of the special investigation section.

Gu Ruolan is actually Tanikawa Chiemi, a high-ranking spy agent in the former Japanese intelligence agency, known as the "Flower of the Empire"!

When Tanikawa Chiemi was captured by Ning Zhiheng, she betrayed the Japanese intelligence organization that had infiltrated Chongqing, which allowed Ning Zhiheng to uncover the entire Chongqing intelligence network in just one month.
