Cheng Wan didn't want to see her husband and mother-in-law's faces right now, so she nodded.

She weakly supported herself with her sister's hand and moved step by step toward the inner room.

"Xiangling, could you please put some padding behind my back so I can sit up for a while?"

“We never had such a dramatic childbirth experience before. We never heard of anyone going to the hospital. Midwives would help out and the baby would be born on its own.”

Cao Tongwen's words were filled with a sense of superiority about having given birth to a son.

Cheng Xiangling couldn't stand it anymore and, hands on her hips, retorted with a string of insults.

"All the people from before are dead, why don't you die with them!"

"As the saying goes, those who can endure hardship will suffer. If you're bored and have nothing to eat, go to the public toilets outside and taste the saltiness of each one!"

"Hey, you little brat, don't you have any manners? How dare you talk to your elders like that!"

The sound of Cao Tongwen jumping up and down in anger could be heard from outside.

Cheng Xiangling immediately rolled up her sleeves, ready to show her what true ill-manneredness was.

But before she could rush out and confront Cao Tongwen head-on, Cheng Wan grabbed her wrist first.

She was too weak to speak.

Yet her eyes were still glistening with tears, her gaze a silent plea.

"sister."

Cheng Xiangling felt as if there was a wad of cotton stuck in her throat; she could only call her name once before she could no longer speak.

She remembered her mother's many instructions before she left.

Tell her she must control her temper and not make things difficult for her sister!

After all, her family wasn't around, so her sister had to endure all sorts of mistreatment.

Cheng Xiangling held her breath and sat back down on the edge of the bed.

"It's all Wen Jun's fault! He still has the nerve to call himself a man, but in the end he can't even protect his own wife. He's just a coward!"
