Chapter 153: Escape

Fang Qingyue took a deep breath, her eyes determined: "Chiyue, we must leave here. The capital is no longer safe. When Shen Yuhan finds out that I'm missing, he will definitely send people to look for us."

She pondered for a moment, then continued, "Mother-in-law mentioned earlier that we should go to the mass grave in the suburbs. I have something to do."

Fang Chiyue nodded, although she felt uneasy.

The two trudged all the way and finally arrived at the desolate mass grave in the suburbs in the dark.

There are some new and old graves scattered here and there, overgrown with weeds. There is a dead silence all around, with only the sound of the wind and the cry of crows breaking the dull silence.

Although Fang Chiyue couldn't see, she could feel the thick chill and uneasiness around her.

"Sister...I feel so eerie here..."

She held Fang Qingyue's hand tightly, with a hint of fear in her voice.

Fang Qingyue's eyes were firm as she whispered comfortingly, "Chiyue, don't be afraid. We won't stay here long."

Fang Qingyue began to look for a suitable place. Her eyes swept across the graves and finally stopped on a corpse that looked relatively fresh.

It was a woman who had died not long ago. Her clothes were ragged and her face had begun to rot, but her figure was about the same as hers.

Fang Qingyue took a deep breath. Although she felt depressed, she did not hesitate.

This plan is their only chance to escape.

She took out her clothes and jewelry from the package and quickly changed them on the corpse.

Then she took out the rouge she had prepared in advance and painted her own image on the corpse's face, trying her best to imitate her features.

"Chi Yue, I'm going to do something later, don't be afraid." Fang Qingyue said softly to Chi Yue.

Although Fang Chiyue didn't understand her sister's intention, she still nodded: "Sister, I believe you."

Fang Qingyue struggled to drag the corpse, which had been dressed in her own clothes, to the edge of the cliff. Looking at the bottomless darkness below, her heart trembled.

This step determines whether she can completely sever ties with the past.

She took a deep breath and pushed the body off the cliff, letting it disappear into the darkness at the bottom of the cliff.

"Sister, what did you do?"

Fang Chiyue faintly heard the sound of a corpse falling, his face turned pale, and there was a hint of nervousness in his tone.

Fang Qingyue patted her hands and said in a low voice: "I have created an illusion. Those who are chasing us will think that I am dead. Next, we can take the opportunity to escape."

Fang Chiyue held Fang Qingyue's hand tightly, although she still felt uneasy.

She wanted to comfort Fang Qingyue, but she didn't know what to say. She could only stand beside her silently, feeling the desolate night.

"Sister, where are we going now?"

Fang Chiyue asked softly, with a hint of uneasiness in her tone.

Fang Qingyue took a deep breath, withdrew her gaze from the cliff, and turned to look at Chi Yue.

The road ahead was still full of dangers, but she could no longer hesitate: "Chi Yue, we have to leave here and take the small road to avoid the main roads in the capital."

"Once we get to a safe place, we'll find a chance to escape from this troubled place."

Her words were calm, but full of determination.

She didn't want anyone else to die because of her, whether it was Chi Yue or those innocent people.

After they packed up their things, Fang Qingyue checked the herbs and dry food in the package again. After making sure that everything was in place, she took Fang Chiyue's hand and set out on the path at night.

The night wind blew through the mountains and forests, bringing bursts of chill, blowing away the hustle and bustle of the day. The sky and the earth seemed to be shrouded in a layer of mist, quiet and remote.

Shen Yuhan galloped on his horse, his brows furrowed, feeling vaguely uneasy.

He had just come out of the palace and should have returned to the capital immediately to deal with trivial matters in the court, but he could not let go of Fang Qingyue's safety in his heart.

"Fang Qingyue...where are you?"

He whispered to himself, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes.

He had already ordered people to look for her everywhere, but there was no news of her.

Fang Qingyue had a strong character, and he understood that she must have been in great danger, which was why she chose to hide.

Thinking of this, he became even more anxious.

Shen Yuhan pulled the reins of his horse and came to a small house in the wilderness.

This was the place mentioned in the clues he used to search for Fang Qingyue. It was said that an old woman had rescued her.

Outside the cabin, the wind made the leaves rustle, and the cabin was dim and dark, making it seem especially quiet.

Shen Yuhan dismounted, signaled his men not to act rashly, and gently pushed open the door of the hut.

There was a faint herbal scent in the house, and there seemed to be traces of human life.

There was a bowl of dried medicinal soup on the table, and a few worn clothes casually draped on the chair. It was obvious that someone had lived here not long ago.

Shen Yuhan's eyes swept across the room and his heart tightened. Fang Qingyue had really been here before.

He carefully observed every corner of the room, and suddenly, a familiar piece of jewelry caught his eye.

It was a jade pendant with fine carving, obviously belonging to Fang Qingyue.

The jade pendant lay quietly in a corner of the table, as if waiting to be discovered.

Shen Yuhan's breathing stagnated, and he immediately stepped forward and took the jade pendant in his hand, feeling the cool touch with his fingertips.

He instantly realized that Fang Qingyue was nearby.

She must have stayed in this cabin, or even in these desolate mountains.

Shen Yuhan was filled with anxiety. He immediately turned around and ordered his men behind him, "She's nearby. Disperse and search immediately. Don't let your guard down!"

The men received the order and immediately dispersed, carefully searching every corner within a few miles.
