Slightly Crazy in the Apocalypse

The Qi family has always been broad-minded, even in the apocalypse. They still follow the principle that all guests are welcome, opening their arms to accept all kinds of fugitives. As they accept ...

Transformation into a ladyboy

Yu Yu probably thought I'd be curious about what his "unexpected" meant, or that I'd act like a girl and argue with him, but I didn't. The very next second after he said that pretentious line, I'd already sent him sprawling to the ground with a flying kick.

Most mentally ill patients are in poor health. They are tormented by their disordered minds for years, suffering from insomnia, vivid dreams, and poor appetite. They also take sedatives for extended periods, which depletes their vitality. Unless they are manic patients like Li Tonggu, none of them are a match for my battle-hardened skills.

Yu Yu's ace assassin, Li Tonggu, was being beaten by my dad and Zhou Yi together, and despite being unarmed, he was not at a disadvantage. He had an extremely stable lower body, and his two iron-hammer-like arms swung back and forth, almost hitting my dad several times. Fortunately, Zhou Yi was skilled in martial arts, and his axe repeatedly struck Li Tonggu's vital points, wearing him down considerably.

Zhao Zhuobao, that clueless bastard, wasn't involved in the battle at all. Right now, he was in a corner, holding the terrified Liu Meili, and whispering some sweet nothings to her.

I jumped onto the bed, one foot on Yu Yu's wrist and the other on his chest, bent down and poked his pale face with a screwdriver, and said with a sinister smile, "I'm taking Liu Meili away, do you have any objections?"

Yu Yu was clearly enraged by the humiliation, but the murderous glint in his eyes only lasted a moment. Suddenly, he straightened up, his head swayed wildly, and his gaze became unfocused. He pinched his forehead with his uncontrollable hand and shook it violently, almost shaking me off the bed.

"Damn coward, he knows how to pick his time to have an episode!" I cursed and jumped off the bed. After watching him struggle to get up on the bed for a while, looking like a zombie and not funny at all, I decided to ignore him and deal with Li Tonggu first.

Zhou Yi's sweeping leg kick tripped Li Tonggu, causing him to stumble. Li Tonggu became even more enraged and swung his arm even harder.

"Dad, move aside, I'll do it." I went up and started digging into Li Tonggu's lower back, punching him hard until my fingers ached. Li Tonggu turned around angrily, saw me, paused for a moment, and unconsciously said, "Chocolate."

He didn't hit me, so I stopped. I just assumed a defensive stance and stared at him, saying, "Little Li, have you thought this through? If you stop me today, you won't get any more chocolate."

Li Tonggu rubbed his arms and looked hesitantly at Yu Yu, who was practicing her somersaults on the bed.

I continued to coax him: "Move aside, I'll go home and get it for you. I have a whole box of Dove chocolates at home."

Li Tonggu received no further instructions from Yu Yu, and Zhou Yi and my father did not take the initiative to provoke him again. After thinking for a moment, he stepped back from the door he was guarding. "Go home and get it for me. I haven't had any chocolate for days."

"Yeah, don't worry." As long as Yu Yu doesn't cause trouble, Li Tonggu is such an easy person to deal with.

I winked at Zhou Yi, signaling him to go out with my dad first. I ran to the corner, kicked Zhao Zhuobao aside, and spat at him, "You scumbag, I caught you cheating on me! Get out of my way!" Then I pulled Liu Meili out.

Zhao Zhuobao collapsed to the ground, crying and spouting nonsense: "Aifeng, I love you! Meili, Meili, I love you!"

I glared at him angrily: "Cry! You still have the nerve to cry! Give me the keys, I'm going to the stairwell to beat up the mistress!"

Zhao Zhuobao raised her head, her face suddenly darkening: "Aifeng, are you leaving me?"

I know exactly what kind of person he is, so without thinking, I spat out a mouthful of water: "You wish! I'll be haunting you for the rest of my life, until you die. Give me the keys now, I'll come back and beat you up after I've dealt with that mistress!"

Zhao Zhuobao paused for a moment, then slowly took out the key and handed it to me. Suddenly, a touching expression appeared on her face: "Aifeng, you're so good to me. I want to go with you to beat up the mistress."

I nudged Liu Meili, and she reacted, stammering, "Ah... Zhao Zhuobao, you, you actually called me a mistress! You bastard, didn't you say you only loved me?"

Zhao Zhuobao looked at the two of us with a conflicted gaze and a face full of turmoil that was heartbreaking. After a moment, he sighed and turned his face away.

Liu Meili and I exclaimed in unison: "What a scumbag!"

Without Yu Yu causing trouble, Zhao Zhuobao would be easy to deal with.

Even though Liu Meili's legs were too weak to stand up, it didn't stop her from looking at me with admiration. Even as we approached the stairwell, she was still saying in that incredulous tone, "Xiao Qi, you know these lunatics' weaknesses so well. You act like it's the real thing."

As I unlocked the door, I said seriously, "Observe more, think more, and practice more, and you can do it too."

After adjusting to the darkness in the stairwell for a while, we tiptoed downstairs. The route was the same as before; the zombies occasionally howled in the stairwell, but none of them managed to break through the defenses. However, when we reached the second floor, the two zombies that hadn't been killed blocked our way, requiring Zhou Yi to use several more axe blows.

As we walked out of the hospital lobby, it was completely dark, and the rain was still pouring down, as if the sky had a hole in it. Liu Meili whispered to me, "We have to hurry. Yu Yu's attack is almost over, and he'll definitely send Li Tonggu after us."

"He's a complete madman!" I blurted out, when I suddenly saw my dad rushing to open the car door. Startled, I hurriedly ran into the rain: "Dad, let me open the door."

My dad already had his hand on the doorknob: "Quickly call Nurse Liu over to check on your second uncle. You and Xiao Zhou go get the medicine."

As he spoke, he suddenly flung the door open. In a moment of madness, I reached out with both hands and shoved my dad's right arm with all my might, sending him tumbling head over heels and nearly crashing into the flowerbed.

"Ouch!" He gasped in pain, then rolled over and sat in the water, looking at me incredulously. "Dafeng, you little brat, why did you push me like that?"

Zhou Yi and I stood like two statues in front of the car door, one holding an axe and the other a screwdriver, our eyes fixed intently on the inside. Even after my dad started yelling, we didn't see any heartbreaking zombies leap out of the car.

We exchanged a glance and tilted our heads to look inside. Although the light was extremely dim, the human figure that had been sleeping when it left was still lying there motionless in the back seat.

Zhou Yi breathed a sigh of relief. I quickly turned around to help my dad. Besides saying that I was brain-dead and acted impulsively, I couldn't come up with any other decent reason. Surprisingly, my dad didn't scold me much. He wiped the water off his butt, rubbed his palms, and said in a low voice, "You silly girl, are you afraid of your second uncle... Sigh, let's ask Nurse Liu to take a look."

I didn't say anything, but I felt that my dad was gradually coming to his senses.

Liu Meili probably hadn't escaped the hospital yet and didn't fully believe we wouldn't abandon her, so she carefully performed a series of palpations on her second uncle. In the end, she concluded that he didn't have a fever, but was in a coma of unknown cause, with weak breathing and an extremely slow heartbeat, and could die at any time.

I was shocked that my second uncle was still alive... It's inhuman to say that, but I was genuinely surprised. At least seven or eight hours have passed since I rescued him this morning, and he hasn't died or mutated. This is clearly different from the process by which Xiao Bo's father transformed after taking a walk home, or my second aunt transformed after doing square dancing.

Either the one that bit him wasn't a zombie, or it really was a gifted individual.

Thinking about it this way, I felt a surge of hope and excitedly said to my dad, "Let's drive to the clinic. You keep an eye on Uncle, and Zhou Yi and I will go get the medicine. No matter what virus he has, we'll give him all the available medications. Who knows, one of them might be the right one."

My dad patted my hand with relief: "Yes, that's the right way to think. I know his condition is not good. To put it bluntly, we're just trying anything. Don't worry about me."

The outpatient hall was not as clean as the first floor of the inpatient department. In the dim light of the lighter, Zhou Yi and I walked around several piles of mutilated bodies and limbs in the hall, and saw the shadows of a few zombies swaying in the registration window. Without stopping, we rushed into the pharmacy.

They found two large plastic boxes for injectable medications, and without bothering to check the names of each item, they quickly swept up all the medicines they could from the shelves and stuffed them into the boxes. After filling the boxes, they grabbed a few bottles of glucose, large rolls of gauze, bandages, alcohol swabs, syringes, and disposable needles—useful or not—and stuffed them all into plastic bags. After a full ten minutes of this, the two of them hoisted the boxes, each with several bags and bottles hanging from their chests and backs, and staggered out of the outpatient department.

The van was parked perfectly fine in front of me. There were no zombies or pursuers. As long as I got in the van, I could ram my way back. I was quite satisfied that I was able to escape unscathed from a place like my workplace, where zombies and lunatics roamed freely.

"Dad, come and get the stuff." I called out to my father as he opened the car door, and suddenly a large machete, about two feet long, was held against my neck.

The flashlight beam shone directly at me, blinding me. I raised my hand to shield my eyes and squinted. The person in the back seat gave me a smug smirk: "What? Trying to ditch me and leave on my own?"

The voice was a little husky, a little soft, a little reproachful, and carried an indescribable air of pride; it was neither male nor female, and it was impossible to tell whether it was hermaphrodite or not.

I glanced at him and saw Liu Meili leaning against her second uncle, head bowed, not daring to utter a sound. Then I looked at my father in front of me, who was also being controlled by the tall, strong man in the driver's seat.

"Damn it, you're playing dirty tricks!" Zhou Yi shouted angrily from behind me, throwing off his things and reaching for his axe.

I suppressed my anger and flicked the blade: "Yu Yu, what exactly do you want?"

The one holding the knife to my neck was indeed Yu Yu. He chuckled and suddenly made an incongruous pouting gesture: "I'm not Yu Yu. What am I going to do if you take my best friend away? I don't want to stay in this godforsaken place with two grown men. Since neither of you wants to stay, I'll go with you. You can take one or a few more, it doesn't matter."

I was extremely impatient with his sarcastic attitude, so I frowned and started cursing: "I don't care who you are, it's that Yu Dandan or Yu Xiaochun again, right? You're really despicable, even more despicable than Yu Yu! What do you mean by split personality? I think you're just a pervert, bisexual and trying to make yourself look good. Have some shame and get off the bus right now, or I'll make you take action!"

The guy surnamed Yu kept pouting, and it was nauseating to see a grown man acting so willfully. He glared at me and said angrily, "I am Yu Dandan, why are you cursing me? Did I say something wrong? We're both women, why can't I go with you? I even brought you all the food, we're a group, you won't lose out! Anyway, I don't care, if you're going to take Liu Meili, you have to take me too. You want to fight? Let's see who's stronger!"

After he finished speaking rapidly, he quickly drew his knife and suddenly shone his flashlight a few times behind the car.

I was stunned, and before I could react to what he was up to, I heard a man's shrill scream from upstairs in the inpatient ward: "Ahhh! Help!"

"Who? Zhao Zhuobao?" I exclaimed in shock. "You left Zhao Zhuobao with the zombies?"

Yu Yu, or Yu Dandan, seemed confident. He pulled out the knife that had been threatening me, then turned around and held it to Liu Meili's neck, chuckling and feigning innocence: "No, I just asked him to open the door. There are the most zombies on the second and third floors. You guys should come up quickly, or I won't be able to stop them when they come. Or do you want to die with me?"

This move, which seemed to cut off their supply lines, was executed so skillfully that there was no time for negotiation, enraging Zhou Yi. He swung an axe at the roof of the car, yelling, "Go to hell! It's enough to kill you before the zombies arrive!"

He took a step forward, and Liu Meili immediately screamed in pain.

The reason why the mentally ill patient surnamed Yu became the subject of Vice President Lu's personal treatment was because of the special nature of his condition and his numerous dark histories, which had even made headlines. He was the kind of person who would use his mental illness to commit evil with impunity. Even in a society governed by the rule of law, there was nothing that could stop him from causing harm in a chaotic world like the end of the world. Cutting his "best friend's" throat was just the tip of the iceberg.

I think the best way to deal with these kinds of people is to beat them up without saying a word, but the zombies have appeared, and we have to leave. My dad is also in their hands, and if anything happens to him, I won't be able to explain it to my mom. I had no choice but to stop Zhou Yi, even though I was furious but had to consider the bigger picture.

"Go drive," I said to Zhou Yi, swallowing my anger. "Let's leave first."

Zhou Yi glared at Yu Dandan resentfully, then ran to the driver's seat, cursing, and kicked the car door shut: "Aren't you getting out? Can you even drive?"

Seeing a figure running quickly towards us in the rain in the distance, I didn't have time to argue with Yu Dandan anymore. I hurriedly opened the trunk and threw all the boxes and plastic bags in at once, then squatted down myself—the back seat, plus the huge Li Tonggu, had already squeezed Liu Meili into a paper doll shape.

"Drive!" Yu Dandan shouted, "The zombies are coming out!"

"What the hell are you yelling for! It's all because of you that the zombies are coming out! A madman is a madman, he's really disgusting!" Zhou Yi angrily started the car and sped off towards the gate.

"Wait for me! Aifeng, Meili, wait for me!"

Zhao Zhuobao ran desperately through the rain. Behind him, he could see many swaying figures, appearing and disappearing between the trees. They were not moving fast, but there were many of them.

Zhao Zhuobao was running barefoot and with his clothes open, his face and head soaked with rain, looking like a complete mess. Unexpectedly, the first person to feel sorry for him was my dad. He leaned out of the window to look, then turned to Zhou Yi and said, "Slow down, we've already brought them, one more won't make a difference."

Zhou Yi held his anger and ignored him, driving all the way to the gate before stopping: "Uncle, you see, the two other patients don't care about him at all, yet you're still worrying about him."

Yu Dandan turned around and looked at me, covering her mouth and laughing: "Your dad has such a kind heart, hehe."

I couldn't be bothered with him. I jumped out of the trunk and ran quickly to the security room window to open the electric door. Just as the door opened wide enough, Zhao Zhuobao arrived and leaped onto the trunk.

I gestured to Zhou Yi to drive out the door, and Zhou Yi poked his head out: "What are you doing?"

"I'll close the door; I can't let the zombies out."

"You're such a worrywart." Zhou Yi shook his head, moved the car outside with one foot, and I turned on the button, jogging and jumping in. Zhao Zhuobao quickly squatted down on the grain bag to make room for me, smiling ingratiatingly, "Aifeng, we're together again."

I have nothing to say, I'm so tired.

After closing the back door, looking through the blurry glass, I could no longer see the zombies' movements. The road receding into the distance seemed even darker than the rest of the area. At this point, there wasn't a single living person left in the veterans' hospital.

Zhou Yi was furious, driving like a maniac, smashing into zombies like cannonballs with incredible speed. He cursed as he went, spewing out the most offensive insults, even more indignant than I, the host who was about to let the wolf into the house.

My dad, Liu Meili, and I remained silent, listening quietly as he vented his anger. Yu Dandan, Zhao Zhuobao, and the other two, however, were unusually excited. Every time a zombie appeared in the high beams and was immediately knocked away, Yu Dandan and Zhao Zhuobao would clap and cheer loudly; every time they ran over a corpse and the car jolted violently, they would giggle incessantly. Zhou Yi's vicious curses mingled with their oblivious cheers, creating a bizarre and farcical spectacle.

Although Li Tonggu didn't participate in his fellow patients' frenzy, his behavior was still quite alarming. From my angle, he was pressed his face tightly against the window, his nose and lips almost flattened, his eyelids unblinking as he greedily peered out. Outside, the wind and rain were raging, and it was pitch black, yet he stared so intently and seriously that one couldn't help but wonder if he could actually see anything captivating. I think if someone saw this car right now, and saw that distorted, round face reflected in the window, they'd be scared out of their wits.

I made it back to the Huafu Street market without any major incidents. Seeing the empty piles of rubble and the warm yellow light shining from the second floor of my house, I finally felt a pang of exhaustion. Four people went out, eight came back—I felt even my mother, with her warm and hospitable nature, might not have been able to handle it all, let alone these people who weren't exactly normal.

The van, exhausted from a long day of work, pulled up at the alley entrance. My dad carried my second uncle out of the van, while Liu Meili helped by holding up his raincoat. Zhou Yi conscientiously closed the door, locked the van, and carried the boxes and belongings, reminding me to be careful of the slippery alleyway. I suddenly realized that compared to Yu Dandan and the others, Zhou Yi, with his slightly delusional tendencies, seemed much more endearing.

When a group of drenched chickens filed into the house, filling the living room with their belongings and dripping rainwater that nearly flooded our marble floor, I wasn't surprised to see my mother's shocked expression—she was staring at the three mentally ill people. After all, their blue and white striped uniforms were so eye-catching that it was hard not to notice them.

Han Bo: "Da Feng, did you go robbing people?"

Binbin: "How is my dad?"

My mom: "Who are these people?"

I threw off my raincoat and clenched my fist in the air: "Don't ask anything, just eat first, then go to sleep!"
