Small Town Rebirth: Starting From Birth

On the internet, people often commemorate their childhoods. Chen Bing, a young man from a small town who was one of them, found himself back 24 years ago, in the small town of his birth, after his ...

Chapter 86 Picking Up a Cat, Family

Immediately afterwards, Shang Yunmiao took off her coat and handed it to Chen Bing. The two then put the kitten inside the coat and took the elevator back home with Yunxuan.

The first thing to remember when caring for a kitten that has gotten wet is not to give it a bath.

Yunxuan obviously knew this principle, so as soon as she got home, she found a towel and a hair dryer. After wiping the poor kitten's fur, she used a gentle breeze to slowly dry its body.

After all that, the kitten still wasn't feeling well. Chen Bing figured it might be hungry, so she got some milk and a syringe, warmed the milk to a suitable temperature, and fed it to the kitten little by little.

Watching her mother and Chen Bing skillfully care for the kitten, Shang Yunmiao also wanted to do her part.

After thinking for a moment, she remembered what her mother had said before: remember to keep warm after getting caught in the rain. So she ran back to her room and found her winter hand warmer.

After filling it with hot water at the right temperature, Shang Yunmiao wrapped the hand warmer in a towel and handed it to her mother.

Yunxuan smiled and gave her daughter an encouraging look before placing the kitten on top.

Two or three minutes later, the kitten lying on the warm towel gradually became still.

Shang Yunmiao almost burst into tears when she saw this scene; she thought she had killed the kitten.

Fortunately, the misunderstanding was quickly cleared up. The cat had simply fallen asleep, its belly still rising and falling.

While it slept, Yunxuan gently stroked its fur with her fingers, checking the kitten for any external injuries or infections. Fortunately, its previous mother cat must have taken good care of it, because apart from being weak from being rained on and hungry, it was otherwise fine.

"Aunt Xuan, you're so skilled! Have you taken care of kittens before?" Chen Bing asked Yun Xuan curiously after everything was finished.

"Yeah, my roommate and I found one when we were in school."

After putting the cat, along with the towel it was using as a pillow and a hand warmer, into a cardboard box, Yunxuan urged the two children to take a bath.

After they finished showering, they saw that the kitten was still sleeping in the cardboard box, so the three of them didn't disturb it.

Yunxuan went to the kitchen to prepare dinner, while Shang Yunmiao sat on the sofa watching TV absentmindedly, her gaze occasionally drifting towards the cardboard box.

"Chen Bing, why is the cat all alone in the garage? Where is its mother? Has she abandoned it?"

After checking on the kitten's condition once again, Shang Yunmiao sat down next to Chen Bing, pursed her lips, and asked him a question.

After thinking for a while, Chen Bing explained to Shang Yunmiao, "It shouldn't be that. Apart from being a little weak from being rained on, the kitten is fine in other aspects. So it's most likely that the mother cat forgot about it when she moved the kittens because of the rain."

"Forgot?" Shang Yunmiao couldn't quite understand why the mother cat would forget her kittens here when there were no kittens living in her garage.

Chen Bing then explained, "Because cats give birth to many kittens in one litter, the mother cat may have put the first kitten in the garage when she moved the kittens during the rain, and then forgot about it here when she moved the rest of the kittens."

Of course, it's also possible that when the kitten was being moved, the garage door at Shang Yunmiao's house was open, and when the mother cat returned with the other kittens, the garage door was closed again.

Chen Bing didn't say the last sentence, because if Shang Yunmiao felt that the kitten's pitiful state was caused by her, she would definitely be sad.

“How could a mother forget her own child…” In Shang Yunmiao’s memory, mothers were all very gentle and caring people. Not only her own mother, but also Aunt Yueyue next door was the same.

"Because cats have many offspring, they cannot devote their full attention to just one of them."

Seeing that Shang Yunmiao was feeling down, Chen Bing reached out and patted her head, just like when they were children, to comfort her.

After comfortably squinting her eyes and enjoying the moment for a while, the little girl suddenly realized that she was already in fourth grade and that this seemed inappropriate, so she slowly pulled her head back.

"That's right! In that case, I'll be the kitten's mom. I don't have any kids, so I'm sure I can take good care of it!"

Xiao Shang, what kind of dangerous remarks are these?

"Taking care of kittens is a very troublesome thing, one of the things is that you have to feed them every two hours."

"Two hours!?" Shang Yunmiao was surprised at first, because if that were the case, what would she do when she went to school? But then she became more determined, "I can take leave every day."

“Good children can’t take leave every day.” Yunxuan’s words came from behind Shang Yunmiao. Although it was good that her daughter was kind-hearted and wanted to take care of the kitten, raising a cat didn’t have to be done by her.

"Mom will take care of it, so you can focus on your schoolwork."

Yunxuan patted her daughter's head from behind and said this to her.

"But Aunt Xuan, you have to work during the day, right? Is it okay to bring such a small kitten to school? Why don't you let my mom take care of it? Anyway, there are many employees in the store, so there will always be someone to take care of it when things get busy."

The suggestion makes some sense, but Yunxuan is not really comfortable with handing over such troublesome responsibilities to someone else.

Chen Bing knew that Yunxuan was a kind person, so he quickly guessed her possible concerns and continued, "My mother really likes kittens. I've always heard her tell my father that she wanted to get one. Also, I heard that my father will be back in the next day or two, so my mother won't be so busy then and will have time to take care of the kitten."

"I see..." Yunxuan was somewhat tempted, but since Liu Yue wasn't around, she couldn't just agree directly. "Let's talk about it when your mother arrives."

To be fair, Chen Bing does know his mother quite well. Although the latter part of her statement about wanting to raise a cat was completely fabricated, she was right about her fondness for kittens.

If you think about it for a moment, you'll realize that a guy as shameless as Chen Shichao wouldn't keep putting it off if his wife had clearly told him she wanted to get a cat.

After ending her conversation with Chen Bing, Yunxuan took a cotton swab from the coffee table drawer and started poking the sleeping kitten's private parts.

"No, no, this scene is too obscene, children shouldn't watch it." Chen Bing reached out and covered Shang Yunmiao's eyes, then stared curiously at Yunxuan's movements.
