On New Year's Eve, after washing up and having breakfast, the family began to put up door stickers, couplets and hang red lanterns. The couplets were written on cut red paper and pasted on both sides of the main hall door.

The "Shenyijing" says: "In the deep mountains of the west, there is a creature over a foot tall. It is not afraid of people, but will give people chills and fever if it strikes them. It is called a mountain goblin. If you light a bamboo on fire and hang it on fire, the mountain goblin will be frightened."

Originally, people used firecrackers to scare away dangerous mandrills. Mandrills are said to be most afraid of light and loud noises, so every New Year's Eve, people would use firecrackers to scare them away. This tradition, repeated year after year, became the custom of setting off firecrackers, lighting red candles, and beating gongs and drums to celebrate the New Year.

There is a saying among Chinese people that "firecrackers are set off when the door is opened". This means that when the new year comes, the first thing every household does when they open the door is to set off firecrackers, using the crackling sound of firecrackers to get rid of the old and welcome the new.

Thinking about modern times, the setting off of fireworks and firecrackers has been banned in recent years. The New Year atmosphere has also become weaker due to the epidemic in recent years.
