Chapter 205 Garlic is essential for a delicious flavor

The water had boiled for the third time, and the plump white dumplings were rolling around in the boiling water, each one round and adorable.

Satisfied, Su Wan added some cold water to the pot to calm the boiling water down, so that the dumpling wrappers wouldn't break during cooking.

She put the lid on the pot, picked up a few cloves of garlic and smashed them one by one with a knife, and said to Meng Ruliu, who was pounding garlic, "Lamb dumplings are the best to eat in winter, but they can get greasy if you eat too much, so you need to mash some garlic paste."

Meng Ruliu put down the garlic press, wiped the flour from her forehead, and said, "Sister-in-law, you're really amazing! You can even make dumplings. When did you learn these things? Did your mother teach you?"

Su Wan said, "My mother... passed away a long time ago, and I taught myself."

If Meng Ruliu hadn't brought it up, she would have forgotten that her mother was actually a time traveler. Originally, her mother was supposed to marry the current emperor of Southern Chu, but she escaped Southern Chu and came to Youzhou in the northwest, where she married her father, who was then the governor of Youzhou.

If she had traveled through time earlier, she might have known what illness her mother had and why so many doctors were unable to cure it.

Another very important point is that her mother was the previous goddess, so why would she rather die than return to the family of divine healers?

She entered the apartment and looked at the jade pendant on the table.

When she was with Chu Mingyao, Chu Mingyao told her that this jade pendant had the ability to "transfer souls and change spirits". She also knew that it was this mysterious power that pulled her into this world.

In her eyes, this was too mystical.

If she could see Chu Mingyao again, she would definitely ask her about the secret of the jade pendant.

For now... never mind, let's just cook the dumplings first.

Steam hissed out from the gaps in the pot lid, filling the entire kitchen with mist. She took a strainer, opened the lid, scooped out a dumpling, pressed it with her finger—the skin was cooked, but she wasn't sure if the filling was done.

She put the dumplings in a bowl, added a pair of chopsticks, and handed them to Meng Ruliu: "Sister Yi, please taste the dumplings to see if they are cooked through and how the seasoning is."

Meng Ruliu agreed, rubbed her hands on her apron twice, took the chopsticks and bowl, picked up a dumpling, took a bite of half of it, hissed and sucked in the cool air, and gave Su Wan a thumbs up. She mumbled, "Delicious, delicious."

"Okay, it's done cooking."

Su Wan brought over a stack of plates and used a strainer to scoop out dumplings.

The large pot in the kitchen could cook 150 dumplings at a time. She filled five large plates with the dumplings and said to Meng Ruliu, "Sister-in-law, take two plates of dumplings to General Meng. I don't care what Ajin says, General Meng needs to eat."

Meng Ruliu said, "My sworn sister helped treat the wound on my father's back... But the dumplings she cooked were so delicious, I'll take some to my father to try."

Su Wan smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, please go ahead and don't be shy."

She dismissed Meng Ruliu, put two large plates of dumplings in an insulated food container, then took three small bowls, filled them with vinegar and minced garlic, and placed them, along with several pairs of chopsticks, on the top shelf of the food container. She then carried the food container out of the kitchen.

The courtyard outside the kitchen was equally bustling. Dozens of large iron pots were set up in the open air, and the cooks stood in front of them, stir-frying beef with shovels. Some were cutting meat on the cutting board, while others were baking pancakes in front of the stove. All of this was for the soldiers to eat.

Su Wan called over the head chef and said, "Thank you so much for helping me make dumplings. I couldn't have made so many by myself."

The head chef smiled and said, "These are all things that our kitchen should do. Is there anything else you need, Madam?"

“There are still over a thousand dumplings left, and I don’t have time to guard them. You cook them and give half to the lord’s guards, and you can eat the other half,” Su Wan said. “Although the soldiers are fighting on the city walls, you who cook are equally hardworking and meritorious. This is the lord’s way of thanking you.”

The head chef said emotionally, "We are extremely grateful for the dumplings bestowed upon us by our lord. Everyone, come and thank our lord for this generous gift!"

"Please don't stand on ceremony, I have to hurry, or the dumplings will get cold."

Su Wan stopped the chefs from bowing in gratitude, walked through the crowd, quickly passed through the moon gate, and entered the long corridor along the pebble-paved path, first arriving at the room where Su Yuze was.

"Little brother, it's me. Come eat dumplings!" She knocked on the door.

Su Yuze had been restless in the room for a while. When he heard Su Wan speak, he quickly opened the door and asked, "Sister, are we going to see brother-in-law?"

Su Wan smiled and said, "No rush, brother-in-law is still fast asleep. You eat your dumplings first."

Su Yuze had already taken a shower and changed into new clothes. He looked much more energetic, but after more than a month of wandering and exposure to the wind and sun, his face wasn't as tender as before.

Su Wan took a plate of dumplings out of the food box and placed it on the table. She then set out the bowls and chopsticks, reached out and touched Su Yuze's forehead, and nodded in satisfaction.

"I'm cured of my illness by the medicine, and my fever is completely gone. After eating a plate of mutton dumplings, I'll be jumping around again."

Su Yuze glanced at the steaming dumplings, but instead of sitting down to eat, he said to Su Wan, "Sister, why don't you eat with me?"

“You eat first, there’s still room for your brother-in-law,” Su Wan said. “He’s been sleeping soundly and hasn’t eaten. I’ll cook some dumplings for him and take them over.”

Wei Jingzhuo's gentle voice came from behind her: "It'll probably be cold by the time we get there, so let's eat it together here."

Su Wan turned around in surprise.

Wei Jingzhuo stood at the door, a smile on his usually cold face. He stood with his hands behind his back, wearing a plain robe. His long, ink-black hair was not combed up, but lazily draped over his shoulders, slightly damp as if he had just washed it, and carrying a faint fragrance.

"You're awake."
