Medical doctor Su Wan transmigrated to the Great Jin Dynasty. She initially thought she was in for a typical palace maid/harem drama, but soon she was married off as a bride to bring good luck by h...
Su Wan took an iodine swab and carefully applied it to the abrasions on Wei Jingzhuo's cheek.
This abrasion was from Wei Jingzhuo's fight with Chu Kai of the Southern Chu army last night. If Wei Jingzhuo had been a fraction slower, Chu Kai's halberd would have smashed his head. Fortunately, it only grazed his cheek.
The wound wasn't deep, but it did damage the dermis, and it will leave a mark on my face after it heals.
Su Wan didn't care. Wei Jingzhuo was a general who had fought on the battlefield; it would be strange if he didn't have any injuries. If anyone found it an eyesore, he could just put on some concealer.
"Does it hurt?" she asked.
Wei Jingzhuo said, "It doesn't hurt."
"If it doesn't hurt," Su Wan said, throwing the blood-stained cotton swab into the pharmacy's trash can and standing up. "I'm going to treat the wounded soldiers."
"Ah Wan, don't go," Wei Jingzhuo grabbed her hand, "Stay with me."
Su Wan said, "Now that you're alright, can't you hear all those groans outside? I still need to go and treat everyone's injuries."
The groans of the wounded echoed outside the tent, accompanied by the sound of hurried footsteps.
Last night, the Southern Chu army stormed into the Jin army camp and rampaged through it. The Jin army had never encountered such a powerful enemy and was completely unable to resist, suffering heavy casualties. The Southern Chu army also set fires everywhere, forcing Wei Jingzhuo to order an abandonment of the camp and a retreat.
Fortunately, the Southern Chu army did not pursue them after occupying the camp. The Great Jin army retreated twenty miles and hastily set up a camp.
“Aren’t there doctors in the army?…By the way, I’m actually in a lot of pain, my shoulders, back, and waist,” Wei Jingzhuo said, putting his arm around her waist. “I exchanged a few blows with Chu Kai, and the pressure was too much.”
Su Wan said, "So you know what pain is. I thought you didn't have pain receptors."
“I haven’t been injected with any secret medicine,” Wei Jingzhuo said. “I never imagined that the medicine from a family of divine doctors could make an ordinary person so powerful. It feels like two thousand fierce generals have rushed in. I’ve never encountered anything like this before.”
Su Wan patted the bed: "Since you're in pain all over, then lie down. I'll do you a favor and give you a massage."
Wei Jingzhuo said, "Massage your legs a little longer, they're a bit sore too."
"Stop being so sarcastic and lie down."
Wei Jingzhuo lay on the bed, and Su Wan pressed her hands on the muscles on both sides of his neck, saying, "Bai Zhiyi persuaded the family of divine doctors to use a potion that can make people extremely strong. However, this potion has serious side effects and can make people lose their minds."
“They’re not just very strong,” Wei Jingzhuo said, “arrows can only scratch the surface of their bodies. We need to come up with a solution.”
Su Wan reassured her, "Ah Jin, don't worry. No matter how powerful the drug is, it will be metabolized by the body. They didn't press their advantage last night, which means the drug's effects have worn off. They'll probably inject this drug again, so you'd better think of a solution quickly."
“The army has oil, so we’ve converted all the arrows into rockets,” Wei Jingzhuo said. “No matter how strong they are, they’ll feel pain if they get burned. Also, there are some trebuchets that Chu Yi used at Yanxun Pass, and I’ve already had them transported here.”
After massaging Wei Jingzhuo's neck muscles, Su Wan swung her fists and pounded down his spine, saying, "This enemy army is the last problem for Southern Chu. As long as we get rid of them, the Fourth Prince of Southern Chu is willing to surrender."
He learned from the fourth prince of Southern Chu that the emperor of Southern Chu had long intended to surrender, but Chu Kai refused.
Wei Jingzhuo nodded and said, "Water and fire are merciless, they must be afraid of fire. We can use trebuchets to launch stones from a distance, and rockets when we get closer."
"Now that my husband has come up with an idea, shall I go and call everyone in?"
"No, let me get dressed first and go to the command tent to summon the generals. The commander-in-chief cannot be so casual; it would be unbecoming."
"Weren't you sore all over just now?"
Wei Jingzhuo propped himself up and said, "A-Wan has already had a massage, and you feel much better. How about I give you a massage tonight?"
Su Wan blushed, patted Wei Jingzhuo on the back and said, "Stop fooling around, focus on fighting the war. After the war is over, you can press me every day if you want."
Wei Jingzhuo got up and straightened his clothes. Su Wan brought him his armor and helped him put it on. Wei Jingzhuo went to the command tent to summon the generals, while Su Wan went to treat the wounded in the army.
The generals of the Great Jin army were seeing such a terrifying enemy for the first time. The enemy had fought a fierce battle the previous night, but had managed to escape unscathed, with not a single person killed. Everyone was somewhat apprehensive.
Seeing everyone's fear, Wei Jingzhuo laughed and said, "Gentlemen, there's no need to hide it. Actually, this is the first time I've dealt with such monsters. We'll call them the Ghost Army to distinguish them from the ordinary Southern Chu army. Find their weaknesses, and then we can defeat them."
Seeing that Wei Jingzhuo was calm and composed, everyone gradually calmed down and offered suggestions.
One general proposed building a powerful siege ballista with long, heavy bolts, each several feet long, far more powerful than a bow and arrow, capable of piercing the bodies of the monster army.
Meng Ruliu said, "General's idea is good, but is there enough time to build crossbows?"
The general said, "We can have the craftsmen from Yanxun Pass take charge of manufacturing it."
Meng Ruliu asked, "Then what will we use to defend against the monster army's attacks during this time?"
The wooden camp posed no obstacle to the Southern Chu army. They could easily smash through the walls; tactics used against ordinary troops were completely ineffective against these monsters.
Wei Jingzhuo said, "The Ghost Army has been injected with medicine from the Divine Physician Family. We cannot engage in close combat and can only attack from a distance."
The generals all nodded. One of them said, "But General, the Ghost Army is not afraid of arrows. We have no other choice but to use arrows from a distance."
“Let’s modify the arrows,” Wei Jingzhuo said. “Wrap the arrowheads in cloth strips and then soak them in oil. Once the monster army attacks, don’t engage in close combat. Retreat and shoot them with fire arrows. They’re not afraid of arrows, so why wouldn’t they be afraid of fire?”
