Medical doctor Su Wan transmigrated to the Great Jin Dynasty. She initially thought she was in for a typical palace maid/harem drama, but soon she was married off as a bride to bring good luck by h...
After hearing the inside story about the goddess from Su Wan, Chu Mingyao was stunned, as if struck by lightning. Her heart was filled with turbulent waves.
Aside from tightly embracing Su Wan in an attempt to offer some comfort, she was speechless.
She longed to save Su Wan's life, after all, Su Wan had been incredibly kind to her and even the entire Southern Chu, and their friendship went beyond that of ordinary friends.
But she dared not offend the family of renowned physicians. Their status in Southern Chu was exalted; even the emperor treated them with deference. From a young age, her father had taught her and her siblings never to show the slightest disrespect to this family. Moreover, Su Wan's life was to be dedicated to the founding emperor of Southern Chu.
To stop Zhang Ying was to go against the founding fathers of the nation. She never imagined she would face such a situation in her life.
Su Wan sensed Chu Mingyao's inner struggle and gently leaned on her shoulder, saying, "Sister Chu, you don't need to think so much. I just couldn't hold it in anymore and wanted to talk to someone. I know the status of the Divine Doctor Family in your Southern Chu. We can't stop Zhang Ying. To you and to me, she's practically a god."
How could mortals possibly stand against gods?
Chu Mingyao felt a pang of sorrow upon hearing this and hugged Su Wan tightly, saying, "Whether it's a god or not, you shouldn't bear this alone. Even if you don't tell me, you can't hide it from your husband as well."
“What good would it do to tell A-Jin?” A trace of sadness flashed in Su Wan’s eyes. “He cares about me. It would be futile to argue with Zhang Ying. Zhang Ying’s resolve is not easily shaken.”
“Maybe Zhang Ying will agree,” Chu Mingyao said. “Maybe she’ll soften her heart. How will we know if we don’t try?”
“No, she has waited for over five hundred years for this moment,” Su Wan said. “Next, A Jin will definitely mobilize the army to attack the Divine Physician Family, but he can’t possibly win. Thousands upon thousands of people will die because of me, and nothing will be resolved… I don’t want to cause everyone’s death because of myself.”
Chu Mingyao said, "Didn't we defeat the ghost army? They wore black armor and were impervious to swords and spears."
Su Wan shook her head helplessly and said, "That only took advantage of the fact that ghosts are afraid of capsaicin. That weakness no longer exists."
Chu Mingyao couldn't help but shed tears and asked, "Is it really only three months left?"
Su Wan said, "I don't know either, but I feel more and more tired. I take all kinds of medicine, vitamins, and protein every day... but it's no use. I feel like a balloon that's slowly leaking air."
Chu Mingyao said, "Don't be discouraged. Maybe we still have a way... For example, we can escape to a faraway place. I'll take you to hide in the North Sea."
Su Wan said, "Once the extraction begins, it won't matter if I hide at the ends of the earth. My mother thought the same thing back then. She fled to the northernmost part of the Great Jin Dynasty, but she still died in the end."
"Then the only solution is to get Zhang Ying to turn that thing off herself?"
"Yes, but she will never turn it off."
After Su Wan finished speaking, she looked up at Chu Mingyao. Both of them were in tears, speechless with emotion.
“Sister Chu, you don’t need to be sad. Actually, I don’t blame Zhang Ying,” Su Wan forced a smile. “I had made a promise with her to use my life to save A Jin. This is the path I chose. I’m sad that I can’t have a child with A Jin. I don’t have enough time.”
Chu Mingyao said, "Silly sister, you can't even save your own life, what are you talking about with the child?"
Su Wan said, "Everyone has to die eventually, right? If you can save the person you love most, at least your death wasn't meaningless..."
Helpless, Chu Mingyao simply placed her hand on Su Wan's lips and said, "Sister, stop talking about death. I don't want to hear it."
Su Wan smiled and pressed Chu Mingyao's hand down, saying, "Sister Chu, I'm only saying this to you. Please don't tell anyone else. I feel much better now."
Chu Mingyao said, "I won't tell anyone."
“Especially Ah Jin, I don’t want him to be sad or upset.”
"Okay, I promise you."
Su Wan nodded, stood up and walked to the window, with Chu Mingyao following beside her. The two reached the window and gazed hand in hand at the flowering trees outside.
The crape myrtle trees outside the window swayed gently, whispering in unison under the July night sky. Their branches were covered with clusters of purplish-red flowers, like stars huddled together in the night sky, dense and lively.
Among these blooming flowers, green buds shyly peek out, some already half-open, revealing delicate red petals. They stretch out their slender stamens, dancing gracefully in the gentle caress of the night breeze.
The moonlight, as silvery as silver, shone on these flowering trees, as if draping them in a light, jade-white veil, making the entire tree appear even more graceful.
Su Wan said, "Look at these flowers, don't they also have a moment of withering? Everything in the world, even rocks, will eventually weather and crumble."
Chu Mingyao said, "Yes, flowers eventually wither, but in the moment of their bloom, their beauty, their fragrance, and their grace will be etched in our memories..."
Su Wan exclaimed "Ah!", turned around and grasped Chu Mingyao's hand, saying, "Sister, I understand."
Chu Mingyao asked, "Understand what?"
Su Wan said, "These past few days I've been hiding in the capital, living in constant fear, terrified that my life is slipping away day by day. Only after hearing what you said, sister, have I come to understand. Since this is an irreversible end, why should I foolishly wait here for death to come?"
Chu Mingyao asked, "Then what are you going to do?"
Su Wan said, "I have medical skills, and I can cure diseases and save lives. There are so many people in the world who are suffering from illness. It is better to go and save them than to waste my time here."
