Medical doctor Su Wan transmigrated to the Great Jin Dynasty. She initially thought she was in for a typical palace maid/harem drama, but soon she was married off as a bride to bring good luck by h...
Su Wan rode her little donkey slowly toward Youzhou City.
The general's mansion was more than ten miles away from Youzhou City. The little donkey strolled along at a leisurely pace, and the tall watchtowers of Youzhou City could already be seen in the distance.
Wei Jingzhuo needs to rest. Bai Zhiyi broke her nose when she fainted, and she's been unconscious since yesterday until this morning. It's unclear what kind of medicine she took, but it seems quite potent.
She took advantage of this rare free time to procure some supplies.
She had already arranged to meet Luna at a restaurant in Youzhou City. After washing up in the morning, she tied her hair into a man's bun, put on a gray coarse linen dress, and went out.
It's only the beginning of September, and the trees along the roadside are already bare. The road is covered with withered yellow leaves, and occasionally a gust of wind blows, swirling the fallen leaves on the ground.
Even at midday, Su Wan felt a chill and instinctively tightened her clothes.
When they arrived at the restaurant where Luna had eaten together last time, Luna was already waiting downstairs. When he saw Su Wan riding her little donkey over, he laughed and went to greet her.
“Little Brother Su, you’ve finally arrived! My legs are numb from standing here,” Luna said as she walked over and grabbed the reins of the little donkey. “Come on, let’s go see what I brought you this time.”
Before Su Wan could even get off the donkey, he dragged her and the donkey together toward the other end of the market.
"Brother Lu, no rush. Let's find a place to rest and have a cup of hot water first." Su Wan took advantage of the donkey's slowing down and jumped off its back.
The weather was cold, and she had inhaled a lot of cold air as she walked, which made her feel a bit uncomfortable in her lower abdomen.
Luna brought a lot of livestock and supplies to sell this time, which were piled up at the other end of the market, eager to sell them to Su Wan.
But Su Wan didn't care what he thought, and led the little donkey to a tea stall and sat down.
The tea shop was run by a middle-aged couple. The wife brewed the tea, while the husband ran errands, wiping the tables. Seeing Su Wan sit down, the husband, with a smile on his face, went over to wipe the tables.
"Sir, would you like some tea? Or a bowl of hot goat milk?"
Because Youzhou City was close to the Western Rong, its diet was also influenced by them, and the local people did not reject drinking goat milk or cow milk.
Su Wan ordered a bowl of goat milk without hesitation.
When the goat milk was served, Su Wan picked it up and smelled it first. The distinctive goaty smell was still quite strong. However, in order to warm herself up, she still pinched her nose and took a big gulp, her mouth full of goaty taste, making her frown as she drank.
Despite its strong muttony smell, it warmed my stomach immediately after drinking it, making me feel much more comfortable.
Luna stood to the side watching, chuckling to herself.
Su Wan saw him smile and knew he was laughing at her for not being able to drink goat milk, so she asked, "Brother Lu, wouldn't you like a bowl?"
Luna arrived early and had been standing downstairs at the restaurant for a long time. He was already quite hungry, as he could only smell the food and not eat. When Su Wan invited him, he sat down without ceremony and called out to the proprietress, "Proprietress, bring me a big bowl."
The proprietress beamed, turned around, grabbed a large bowl, poured in the milk, and brought it over.
In Youzhou, goat milk is much more expensive than tea; it takes ten bowls of tea to make up for the price of one large bowl of goat milk.
Luna took the large bowl with both hands and gulped it down as if it were being poured into her throat. In the blink of an eye, she finished it all, wiped her mouth, and slammed the empty bowl onto the table.
Looking at Su Wan again, she still had half a bowl left to drink.
Luna was quite pleased with himself; when it came to enjoying goat's milk, the Western Rong people were the best.
Su Wan noticed the pride on his face but didn't mind. She smiled and asked him, "Brother Lu, what did you bring this time?"
Upon hearing Su Wan's question, Lu Na's eyes lit up immediately: "Didn't you say you wanted cattle and sheep last time, Brother Su? Guess how many cattle and sheep I brought this time?"
Su Wan shook her head: "I don't want to guess, just tell me how much you brought me?"
Surely not just a few dozen? She couldn't possibly eat that many.
Luna didn't keep her in suspense, pointing with her thumb and little finger: "Sixty heads."
Su Wan: "..."
Seeing Su Wan stare wide-eyed and remain silent for a long time, Luna thought she was intimidated by his extravagant gesture.
A shrewd glint flashed in his eyes. He took out an abacus, fiddled with it for a few moments, then looked up at Su Wan and smiled:
"Of these sixty head of cattle, each cow is worth twenty taels of silver, totaling twenty head, which is four hundred taels. Each sheep is worth five taels of silver, totaling forty sheep, which is two hundred taels. So, the total is six hundred taels. What do you say?"
Six hundred taels!
Su Wan cried out in her heart.
With 600 taels of silver, how could she possibly eat any cattle or sheep? It would be more like the cattle and sheep would eat her.
She doesn't have enough silver on her right now to make five hundred taels.
This five hundred taels was obtained by swindling Bai Zhiyi last time. He bought cotton seeds from Luna and squandered more than ten taels of silver at the restaurant. Where am I supposed to conjure up five hundred taels of silver for him now?
Luna thought Su Wan would readily agree, but seeing her resistant expression, he couldn't help but worry.
He squinted and asked, "Brother Su, someone as generous as you wouldn't be short of six hundred taels of silver, would you?"
Su Wan glanced at him, wanting to tell him that she really didn't.
However, she didn't respond. Her dark eyes darted around, and she changed the subject: "Brother Lu, do you need a doctor over there?"
"Of course I need it. Does Doctor Su intend to come with me to the Western Rong to practice medicine?"
There are doctors on the grasslands, but they are not very useful. Most of them treat cattle, sheep and horses, and are veterinarians.
"Brother Lu, have you ever heard of a goddess in our Great Jin?" Su Wan turned to Lu Na and whispered, "The medicine in that goddess's hands has cured many people's serious illnesses."
Luna nodded repeatedly: "Our king has a chest ailment and has searched all the doctors in the Western Rong, but none of them can cure him. Now the king is also sending people to find that goddess."
