Martin set out on the road to the Sword of Promise City, the dirt road beneath his feet kicking up a fine dust. As he walked, he reached into his space ring and counted his treasures.
After deducting the upgrade costs from the interspatial ring Roland had given him last time, there were still over two thousand gold coins left in the ring. Adding his own savings, the total was only about three or four thousand gold coins. This amount of money was not enough for Martin's plan.
Fortunately, the system upgrade had opened up new avenues, allowing other magical items to be used for upgrades. Martin's spirits brightened at the thought. Once he dug up some magic copper ore, he could directly top it up in the system, then continue searching for more and constantly top it up. This wonderful prospect delighted Martin.
But soon, he frowned again. Mining in just one place wasn't going to be fast enough. He had to ask his father for more prospectors. He also had to find a good opportunity to open up new locations and recruit more prospectors. By expanding mining in multiple locations, the situation would snowball. Not to mention thirty years, even in a year, he'd make those noble Old Biden pay back their money with interest, teaching them the lesson of not bullying the poor.
As he pondered this, his steed trotted briskly, its pace undiminished. As time slipped by, the outline of the Sword's Oath City gradually emerged in the distance. Reaching the city gates, the soldiers spotted the striking White House emblem and immediately bowed respectfully, quickly clearing the way.
As they walked down the city street, Martin thought of his family and decided to bring some gifts back. So, he took Eric straight to the Chamber of Commerce to choose some gifts. After visiting several chambers of commerce and carefully selecting, Martin left feeling very satisfied.
Soon, they arrived at the castle gate. The guard saw the White family crest, his eyes fixed on Martin on his horse, and politely asked, "Who is this young master?" Eric, standing behind Martin, quickly replied, "This is Master Martin White." The knight saluted respectfully and then opened the castle gate.
Martin entered the castle, and everything was exactly as he had left it, as if the past month had never passed. He met a maid and asked her to fetch the butler.
The butler hurried over and saw Martin. He said excitedly, "Master Martin, you're finally back. The Earl has been thinking about you all day." Martin smiled and asked, "Is my father in the castle now?" The butler quickly replied, "Yes, Master Martin. The Earl is in the study right now."
Upon hearing this, Martin asked the butler to arrange a guest room for Eric. After the butler led Eric away, Martin walked through the long corridor, turned a few corners, and arrived at the earl's study. He raised his hand and knocked gently on the door. The earl's familiar voice came from inside the room: "Martin, are you back? Come in." Martin pushed open the door and walked into the study.
Earl White looked at his son, whom he hadn't seen for a month, and could clearly see that he had grown taller and stronger. Martin was the first to speak: "Father, this is a gift I bought on my way home."
The Earl accepted the gift and unwrapped it in front of Martin, revealing it to be an ordinary knight's cloak. A look of satisfaction crossed his face, and he asked, "You've returned so suddenly. Is there something going on?" Martin chuckled, "You can't hide anything from me. I'm looking for a few more prospectors to explore the Luoqiu Mountains for minerals."
Upon hearing this, the Earl's expression grew serious: "Deep in the Luoqiu Mountains, only Sky Knights or Mages can venture in. Anyone else going there will die.
Numerous magical beasts inhabit the central and outer regions of the mountain range, making mining there extremely difficult for ordinary people. Even employing knights and retainers would be excessively expensive, which is why the kingdom's nobles have never shared in the mines of the Luoqiu Mountains.
Earl White thought for a moment and finally nodded in agreement, but added: "I'm not going to give you a few, but I'm going to transfer all the explorers in the castle to you first, a total of thirteen.
Those who can be called surveyors must be experienced and have a heritage. Otherwise, any slight mistake can easily cause huge losses.
Mobilizing manpower and resources, if the vein were gone after just two days of digging, the loss would be incalculable. This is precisely why prospectors are so rare. Knowing how scarce prospectors are, it's no wonder Yoder couldn't find one in Luoqiu Town, where the slave trade is so prevalent. No wonder Yoder looked so bitter when asked about it.
After thanking Earl White, Martin walked out of the study and planned to look for his mother, Lady Ellie. He walked to the door of Lady Ellie's room with ease and knocked on the door, but no one answered.
Just at this moment, a maid passed by, and Martin hurriedly stopped her and asked, "Do you know where Mrs. Ellie is now?" Upon hearing this, the maid hurriedly bowed respectfully and replied, "Master, the fourth lady is in the castle garden, enjoying the flowers with several ladies and young ladies." After hearing this, Martin walked towards the garden.
When Martin arrived at the garden, he saw from a distance a group of women gathered in a huge pavilion made up of several pavilions connected together. He walked steadily to the front of the pavilion.
The sharp-eyed maid was the first to spot Martin and immediately bowed. Seeing this, the other maids followed suit. The people in the pavilion were attracted by the movement and turned to see that it was Martin. They immediately invited him to come and sit down.
Mrs. Ellie was the quickest to move. She took a few steps forward, grabbed Martin, and asked him to sit on the chair next to her. She said with a distressed look on her face, "Martin, you've lost weight and become darker. Why don't you leave Luoqiu Town to the people below and return to the Earl's Castle?"
Martin felt helpless after hearing this, but he still patiently explained: "Mom, the world is so big, I want to go out and explore more."
