Chapter 244 Spending the Night in a Rainstorm

The fire had long been extinguished by the rain, and all that remained was the pitch-black night and the occasional flashes of white light in the sky.

Mao Mao and Da Wang immediately ran back into Ye Feng's backpack to hide.

Wild animals are most afraid of thunder.

And so, in the dark, wearing raincoats and backpacks on their heads, the group finished the whole pot of frog soup.

"Brother Feng, the rain is too heavy. Why don't we build a roof? We still have four pigskins, right? We can build a simple shed."

Liu Sisi shouted loudly, her voice almost drowned out by the torrential rain.

The raindrops lashed down on everyone, and they hadn't experienced that long-lost feeling of being pushed back in their backs for a long time.

Ye Feng also wanted a roof to shelter from the rain, but building a frame required wood.

At this hour, it's pitch black everywhere, and venturing out to find timber is far too dangerous.

So he rejected the idea without hesitation.

"Absolutely not! We're completely unfamiliar with the terrain here. If we go out to cut wood now, something bad will definitely happen."

Liu Sisi naturally understood this principle, but given the current situation, it seemed there was no better way.

"What should we do then? We can't just stay in the rain and sleep forever, can we?"

If you were to get soaked all night, let's not even talk about whether you could fall asleep.

Even if we manage to get through tonight, we'll probably all get sick tomorrow.

Raincoats are waterproof, but they don't keep out the cold. If you get chilled, you'll catch a cold.

Ye Feng waved his hand, showing little panic.

He had actually thought of this before, but the heavy rain came too suddenly, leaving him momentarily stunned.

"It's okay, I have a plan. Nobita, where's the empty backpack I asked you to take? Take it all out."

Upon hearing this, Fu Changxiong quickly pulled out five empty backpacks from his own.

Ye Feng took one of them and went to a corner of the platform.

He opened his backpack, put the two monkeys into the inner compartment, and then stuck his legs into the bag.

This is a hiking backpack, about 1.2 meters long, which is just enough to cover his legs completely.

Finally, he opened his empty backpack and covered his upper body with it, which would protect him from the rain, as well as from moisture and cold.

It's the rainy season now, and Ye Feng had anticipated this possibility before setting off, so he specifically asked Fu Changxiong to bring five empty backpacks as a backup.

Seeing this, everyone immediately followed suit.

Five people, each occupying one of the four corners of the platform, wearing backpacks and leaning against a large tree, let the messy raindrops patter on them, and gradually drifted off to sleep.

That night, it rained heavily, with thunder and lightning.

Who would have thought that while the daytime sun was blazing and the group was worried about finding water, by nightfall...

God gave them an endless supply of water.

On their very first day out, Ye Feng and his group received numerous gifts from the Amazon region.

Ye Feng had actually considered these possibilities several days before setting off.

Despite believing he had made ample preparations, when faced with the true test of nature, he could only barely survive.

This journey is destined to be anything but easy.

Time flies, and the next morning, Ye Feng felt an itching sensation on his face.

He only saw it when he slowly opened his eyes.

Mao Mao and Da Wang had somehow climbed onto his shoulders and were gently poking his face.

Ye Feng flung open the backpack on his head, feeling the stuffiness and pressure in his nose that had been building up all night finally released.

He inhaled the earthy smell in the air and felt his mind clear up considerably.

A light rain was still falling in the forest, with tiny raindrops running down the leaves.

The sky was shrouded in a layer of gray fog, and Ye Feng estimated that it should be around six o'clock.

The rain had mostly stopped, and the birds in the woods began to chirp and chatter incessantly.

As Ye Feng watched the birds flying overhead, his stomach began to rumble.

The frog soup we had last night wasn't enough for them; it barely filled their stomachs.

The day's plan begins in the morning, and he didn't want to travel on an empty stomach.

I don't want to eat dried meat, which is too spicy and dry. A pot of bird meat soup is a good choice because it's refreshing and invigorating.

After thinking it over, he took out the compound bow.

"The early bird catches the worm, and the early riser... well, he gets the bird to eat."

Just as he was about to draw the bowstring, he suddenly realized an important problem.

The compound bow was so powerful that the arrows were sharpened before being fired, making it easy to pierce through a bird.

If an arrow reaches the top of a tree, it's basically impossible to retrieve it.

It had rained heavily all night, and the tree bark was wet and slippery. He didn't want to climb up the tree, which was twenty or thirty meters tall, to get the arrows.

So he shook him a few times and he fell to the ground, where Qi Xiaojie was still fast asleep.

"Little stutterer, wake up, it's time to pee."

Qi Xiaojie grabbed the backpack off his head, his eyes practically closed.

After searching for a while, he finally managed to put it on. He squinted his eyes, clearly still half asleep.

"Feng... Brother Feng, I... I don't want to pee. It's not... even dawn yet."

"Oh dear, it'll be lit up soon."

Ye Feng pulled him up and pointed at the birds squawking overhead.

"Quick, show us your skills! Catch a few of them quickly, and our breakfast today will depend on you."

Qi Xiaojie didn't dawdle. He rubbed his eyes to clear his mind and then took out a few stones from his bag.

Aiming at one of the birds that was relatively close to it in the tree, the stone was thrown out.

"Thump!"

The bird landed with a thud, and Ye Feng could see clearly that the stone had accurately hit the bird's head.

"Wow... good job, keep going."

He truly admired Qi Xiaojie's amazing skill in throwing stones; even if he were to use an arrow, he might not be able to achieve such accuracy.

This is exactly what the saying means: when God closes a door, He will surely open a window for you.

While they were shooting birds, Ye Feng woke up the others and they started a fire.

Liu Sisi put some of the firewood she found last night into her bag, and it was heated by her body temperature overnight.

Their soaked clothes and firewood had dried considerably, and they had also brought a lot of kindling and wood.

With the help of a lighter, the fire was finally lit.

7 a.m. —

As dawn broke, the five of them sat on an open-air terrace in the lush green jungle, drinking meat soup and gnawing on the meager amount of bird meat, managing to make do with a meal.

After resting for a while, Ye Feng made sure everyone had enough water before setting off.

We are still about 8 kilometers away from the target location, which is quite a distance in the jungle.

Ye Feng once read a sentence in a book.

"I'd rather run five miles in the city than walk one mile in the rainforest."
