Chapter 95: Contracted Mutated Beast

Xu Xin returned to the dungeon and pushed the door open to enter the first room in the corridor.

At this moment in the room, Chang Yin and Xue Lan were sitting at the table, while the little boy and the maid were playing on the side. When Xu Xin pushed the door open and walked in, the eyes of several stone statues were all focused on him.

Being stared at by the lifeless eyes of the four stone statues gave Xu Xin a chilling feeling. He quickly said, "The path up there is indeed blocked. It seems the corridor is our only remaining path."

Chang Yin shrugged: "I told you, but you refused to believe me and wasted so much time."

Xu Xin didn't think it was a waste of time. At least he got in touch with everyone inside and obtained some information.

"Then let's go and try to get out of this underground tonight." Xu Xin didn't sit down, but leaned against the door and said.

"Leaving now?" Xue Lan looked at Xu Xin in surprise. "Don't you want to take a break? Those traps are terrifying."

He has been eating oranges and apricots, so he is still mentally and physically full and does not need to rest at all.

"No need. Before I leave, I'm going to contract some mutant beasts."

Xu Xin and the four stone statues came to the door of the room where the mutant beasts were imprisoned, and Chang Yin pushed the door open and walked in.

In the huge underground stone chamber, the eyes of a group of mutant beasts that had broken out of their cages instantly focused on Xu Xin and his companions.

Sure enough, everyone has woken up.

After a few howls, the dozen or so mutant beasts in the front pounced towards them first.

Just as Xu Xin was about to pull out his broom, Chang Yin stomped his foot, causing the entire ground to tremble. He then roared, "Go back!"

All the mutant beasts were shocked and stopped in their tracks. Then they slowly retreated. In less than half a minute, all the mutant beasts returned to the iron cages they had destroyed and lay down obediently.

...Is it so strong?

"Okay, choose according to your own preferences. Do you want me to give you some advice?" Chang Yin didn't think what he did was great at all, and turned to Xu Xin and said.

"Is there any kind that is very fast and aggressive?" Xu Xin asked.

"Come with me."

Xue Lan, the child, and the maid did not come in. Chang Yin led Xu Xin through the spaces between the cages.

Looking at the destroyed cages and the mutant beasts that could leap out at any moment, Xu Xin would be lying if he said he wasn't panicking. The distance was too close, and with the beasts' explosive speed, he couldn't even dodge.

However, whenever Chang Yin approached, the beasts in the cages would either lie down with their heads tucked in, or huddle in the farthest corner of the cage and tremble, looking like dogs that had done something wrong.

"They are so afraid of you, have they signed a contract with you?" Xu Xin asked curiously.

"No, they're just afraid of my strength. Besides, I've done a lot of experiments on them, so they're right to be afraid of me."

Soon, Chang Yin brought Xu Xin to a cage. This cage was not made of iron, but another metal. The cage was not rusty and not damaged, but because its color was dark red rust, very similar to the surrounding colors, Xu Xin did not notice the difference of this cage when he came for the first time.

In the cage was a cheetah with blood-red patterns all over its body. At this moment, the cheetah did not tremble like other mutant beasts, but bared its teeth and growled at Xu Xin and Chang Yin outside the cage.

Coco lay on Xu Xin's shoulder and bared her teeth at the cheetah in the cage.

"How does this cheetah feel?"

Xu Xin's eyes lit up. It was a cheetah! He'd found a treasure!

Xu Xinke is all too familiar with cheetahs. Although, like the leopard, it has the word "豹" (leopard) in its name, the cheetah isn't its muscular cousin, the Pantherinae, but rather a slender member of the Felinae subfamily. It's called a leopard simply because it resembles the leopard.

Compared with tigers, lions and leopards, cheetahs are indeed much weaker. Many people regard them as the punching bags of the grasslands, bullied by hyenas, leopards and lions in turn. Even vultures dare to steal the cheetahs' food.

Despite its relative weakness, the cheetah has its strengths. It's the fastest land animal on Earth, reaching a top speed of 130 kilometers per hour, three times the speed of Usain Bolt. It can also accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just over two seconds, a pace that even most top-tier sports cars can't match.

Thanks to their speed, cheetahs have an astonishing hunting success rate of nearly 60%. Consider that tigers have a hunting success rate of less than 30%, and lions have a rate of less than 20%. Of course, hunting success doesn't guarantee freedom from hunger. Without superior strength, cheetahs often face having their food snatched away. After all, they are the vanquished of the grasslands.

But the mutant cheetah before him didn't look weak at all. It was incredibly large, weighing nearly 200 kilograms, larger than some tigers. If it weren't for its still slender build, Xu Xin would have almost mistaken it for a leopard.

Moreover, this cheetah has very obvious red patterns on its body, which are almost the same as the blood-patterned rabbit and blood-patterned cat that Xu Xin summoned from the altar.

"This cheetah is my most successful test subject. Its quality is just one step away from reaching the level of a mid-level mutant beast." Changyin pointed at the cheetah's two front paws.

Only then did Xu Xin discover that the cheetah's two front paws had undergone a change in appearance like a blood-marked cat. The claws that were now extended were extremely sharp, just like Wolverine's claws.

"It's a pity that it's the limit of what I can achieve. The reagents extracted from the flesh and blood of intermediate mutant beasts may not be able to mutate ordinary beasts into intermediate beasts." Chang Yin shook his head with some regret.
