Surviving a Tribulation Failure and Collecting Disciples in the Mortal World

Shang Liang, the master of the Yuntai Sect, failed his ascension after using the remains of an ancient divine dragon to refine a magical artifact, the Dragon Soul Tower, causing his soul to transmi...

Chapter 2 Disappointing

Shang Lin instantly felt a chill creep up from his tailbone, all the way to the top of his head. This was even more unacceptable than him being dressed up as a sickly little man.

The next second, a female voice suddenly rang in his mind, "This is my body. Men and women are different. Don't touch or look at me indiscriminately, or I will devour your soul."

Just as Shang Lin was about to retort, a joyful little girl's voice rang in her ears, "Madam, Madam, the General is back! The General is back!"

Shang Lin stared blankly at the little girl in front of him, wondering where he had been taken by that ugly thing.

The little maid waved her hand in front of Shang Lin's face with a happy smile, "Madam, are you so happy you've gone crazy? Hurry up and go greet the General! It's been three years, it's been three years already."

Shang Lin immediately came to his senses. So this was something that happened before the ugly thing died? The next moment, he suddenly felt a surge of joy and excitement in his heart. Ah, it really was.

Seeing this, the little girl reached out and grabbed Shang Lin's wide sleeve, hurrying him out the door.

Outside the door, a man in armor was carefully helping a woman down from the carriage. The woman was holding a two- or three-year-old child in her arms. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she smiled sweetly and said, "Thank you, husband, we're finally home."

At that moment, Shang Lin felt a sharp pain in his heart that made his vision blur. He instinctively grabbed the little girl's arm to steady himself. He knew this was the ugly thing's emotion, but he was the one who truly felt it.

This is so frustrating.

Shang Lin suppressed his heartache and calmly observed everything before him. So, he had to eliminate the resentment in the ugly thing's heart in order to return to the real world? Please, he's a sickly person now, how could he possibly endure this!

Fortunately, the scene before him only flashed by, and he was now face to face with the woman. However, behind the woman stood two men who clearly had ill intentions, and she was holding an empty bowl in her hand, smiling triumphantly.

Shang Lin sighed silently, thinking to himself, "Do you want me to beat them all down before I can quell their resentment?"

A voice filled with intense hatred echoed in his mind, "I want them dead!"

"...Okay." It's all fake anyway.

Freed from the limitations of his sickly body, Shang Lin seemed to have switched to a larger form, instantly transforming into a grim reaper. Unfortunately, while this body wasn't that of a sickly girl, it belonged to a girl who had been drugged, so when the others collapsed, he collapsed as well.

When Shang Lin regained consciousness, he saw Li Hongjin's anxious face. "Tiedan, Tiedan, what happened to you? Why did you suddenly faint?"

Shang Lin subconsciously touched his chest. Fortunately, there was nothing extra. It was just the sickly body. Looking around, he and Li Hongjin were still on their way home. Looking at the sky, it seemed that he hadn't been unconscious for long.

Li Hongjin felt a little uneasy at this sight. Ghost stories were never lacking in mountain villages and small towns. "Tiedan, what are you looking at?"

"Ah, I didn't see anything." Shang Lin quickly came to her senses and hurriedly explained, "I don't know how I fainted. I was probably in a bit of a hurry when I got off the bus."

However, despite his nonchalant tone, Shang Lin was in pain all over, especially his temples, which throbbed with pain. He couldn't help but rub them gently.

Li Hongjin supported Shang Lin with great concern, his voice surprisingly filled with the joy of surviving a disaster, "My God, you scared me to death! Haven't you been much healthier these past two years? How come you're still so frightening?"

Shang Lin couldn't help but smile bitterly to himself. Could he say that he, a former genius in the cultivation world, couldn't even deal with a ghost and was now at the mercy of others?

But all he could say was, "Maybe I'm just a little tired today. Let's go home."

While carefully helping Shang Lin onto the tractor, Li Hongjin lectured him, "Why did you get off too? I'm here. I just checked everything, there's nothing wrong. I'll try again and I should be able to drive it."

Shang Lin thought to herself, "Of course." Then she looked around again, wondering if that person's resentment had subsided. She hoped he wouldn't come looking for her again; she really couldn't stand it.

When Shang Lin and Li Hongjin arrived at the village, it was already completely dark. The two were starving, but he told Li Hongjin, "Don't tell my godfather about what happened on the way, he'll worry."

Li Hongjin hesitated for a moment, "Are you really alright?"

Shang Lin replied with absolute certainty, "I'm really fine, don't worry." The pain had subsided.

Li Hongjin hesitated for a moment but finally agreed, "Alright, your godfather's eyesight isn't good, so we really shouldn't let him worry anymore. I'll take you home."

"good."

Li Hongjin not only escorted Shang Lin to the courtyard gate, but also helped him carry his things.

Old Man Chai was slowly walking out of the house, leaning on his cane. "Tiedan's back. Come in and have dinner."

Li Hongjin hurriedly greeted him, "Uncle Chai."

As Shang Lin helped Li Hongjin carry the things they needed for the market inside, she said to Old Man Chai, "Godfather! You cooked again? Did you burn yourself?"

"Hong Jin is here. Could you please bring Tie Dan back?" Old Man Chai said before turning to Shang Lin. "Don't worry, your godfather's eyesight is still good. There's no rush, so take your time. You must be starving, right?"

"Hehe." Shang Lin chuckled, finally revealing the expression of a fifteen-year-old boy. "I was starving. The steamed buns I brought for lunch were all gone."

Li Hongjin chimed in, "That's right, I'm hungry too. I'm going home for dinner."

Shang Lin quickly thanked him, "Thank you for bringing me back."

As Li Hongjin ran towards the door, he replied, "Don't mention it."

On the small, square table sat a small plate of salted cucumbers, a plate of shredded potatoes, a glass noodle soup, and six or seven steamed buns, all of which were quite large.

This food was considered quite good in their village, but for Shang Lin, even the servants working odd jobs in the outer sect of the Yuntai Sect ate better.

But Shang Lin did not wallow in self-pity. He had been here for three years, so what was there to be upset about? What could be more important than survival? Because only by living could there be hope, and only then could he possibly return to the cultivation world.

Shang Lin only has his father and son at home. He is in poor health, and his father's eyesight is getting worse every year. Although cataracts are not a serious disease, surgery would cost at least several thousand yuan. Where would they get the money?

Shang Lin, that sickly little brat, is a money-devouring beast. In the past two years, he has spent almost all of Old Man Chai's savings. Now they can barely make ends meet, and at most, they can buy a few clothes when necessary.

Old Man Chai would never let Shang Lin go out unless absolutely necessary, let alone let him go to the market to earn money. He was definitely a "rare treasure".

The original owner, Shang Lin, was brought from the big city to a remote mountain village by Old Man Chai to recuperate. However, he was possessed by Shang Lin's soul halfway there. The original owner was weak, sickly, and died young. Shang Lin failed in his tribulation and his soul was unstable. It really was a perfect match.
