Surviving in the Wilderness: I Lived for 50 Years

An unusual experience made me realize the value of life, but by the time I looked back, I was already in my twilight years.

It seemed long, yet it passed in a flash.

Chapter 205...

This problem is somewhat unsolvable because I haven't yet found a suitable material to replace bamboo; either it's too heavy or it lacks toughness and strength.

There were plenty of rattan, all sorts of sizes and shapes. If it were before, I probably would have just made do with rattan.

However, after exploring the hilly area to the east and discovering the saber-toothed tiger and the giant short-faced bear last night, my idea has become somewhat questionable.

First, let's talk about that saber-toothed tiger. I don't know how strong its bite is yet, but I think its saber-like fangs could easily pierce through the rattan armor and enter my body.

Considering that saber-toothed tigers like to attack the lungs of their prey, if this rattan armor can't withstand it, it would probably just be a matter of a shiver when that thing pierces my body.

Needless to say, the giant short-faced bear's claws were already incredibly destructive.

Yesterday, I witnessed its full power firsthand; the beast almost snapped a tree trunk as thick as a thigh in half.

It seems that, in terms of the palm strength of the saber-toothed tiger and the short-faced bear alone, the short-faced bear is still superior to the saber-toothed tiger.

In my mind, I imagined my body covered in rattan armor, and a huge, short-faced bear charging straight at me.

However, the rattan armor offered very limited protection, and the short-faced bear never played by the rules. With just the mask, it slapped me on the head.

My head spun around several times at an extremely fast speed before finally stopping behind me.

I thought about making some rattan armor to protect my head, but I figured it wouldn't make a difference.

That guy's strength is truly astonishing. Even with my armor protecting me, if he wanted to, a full-force attack could very likely leave me with a concussion.

Several times, the brain's evolutionary attempts all ended in utter defeat, and in the end, I was devoured by those predators.

After much thought, I realized that no matter how I designed it, there would always be flaws. In the end, I simply put this headache aside, grabbed my fishing rod, and went fishing to relieve the stress on my mind.

The fishing was still going well today, with a continuous stream of fish catching, which gave me a lot of relief from my stress.

Relaxation is fine, but things still need to be done. But fishing is truly a wonderful thing; while relieving stress, it also brought me to a sudden realization.

My going out fishing is an active act, and so is the attack by those wild beasts.

Since taking the initiative can give me the upper hand, why should my approach necessarily be to passively defend?

Defense means losing the initiative. As the saying goes, destruction is always easier than creation.

At that moment, I was the one racking my brains to create stronger defenses to prevent destruction. Once I understood this, it was like a sudden enlightenment, and everything became clear.

I've changed my mind. I'm going to do the opposite! I'll be the one to take the initiative and attack first. The best offense is the best defense.

In the face of absolute power, all demons and monsters are insignificant.

This breakthrough in my thinking was a turning point; it provided the template for my future creation of the strongest battle armor.

It was with this armor, along with Top and Pat, that I withstood the pressure of a massive war.

But that's all for later. Right now, all I want to do is think of a good way to save my life and deal with those damned, monstrous beasts as soon as possible.

With this in mind, since the direction this time is offensive, the first thing that comes to mind is weapons.

Now that I have the three-piece set of ranged attack equipment, I can use the blowgun to hunt birds and small mammals.

I can use a bow and crossbow to shoot and kill medium to large prey or beasts.

When faced with extremely large and threatening predators, the shotgun became my last resort for survival.

There are fewer melee weapons. I can use a spear at long range and a Nepalese kukri at close range. This is my standard equipment.

However, these weapons inevitably have some fatal flaws, as can be seen from the recent encounters with wild animals.

Shotguns can fire two shots in quick succession, making them the most powerful and versatile weapon in the game, and they are perfectly acceptable for use in self-defense.

However, it also has some fatal problems. First, its reload speed is no different from that of long-range melee weapons, and sometimes it is even slower.

Secondly, its bullets are specially made. Without these bullets, there is basically no way to replace them in time, and the entire gun is instantly reduced to a fire poker.

The chance of losing bullets is not zero; I almost did before. That time, when I was fighting that lake monster in the lake back home, I lost almost all of my crossbow bolts in the lake.

I was carrying shotgun shells with me that time, but luckily the bag I made had a flap that could close the opening.

Otherwise, if all the shotgun shells had been lost in the lake that time, after firing the two shots we had, Top and I would have been left to die.

After all, that lake monster was also very cunning, and trying to kill it with a few crossbow bolts in its preferred waters was almost impossible.

Bows and crossbows have similar advantages: they are powerful, quiet, and easy to conceal. Furthermore, their arrows are much easier to manufacture than bullets and are highly reproducible.

However, the drawback remains the same: slow reload speed. If you miss your first attack, it becomes very difficult to land a second one immediately.

Based on the weapon information I've reviewed above, what I need most right now is a medium-to-close-range attack weapon with a large magazine capacity, fast reload speed, immense power, and portability.

The magazine capacity should ideally be no less than six rounds. If it could fire like a Gatling gun with blue flames, I reckon it could roam freely throughout the entire jungle, and give anyone who dared to challenge it a blast with its ammo belt.

However, such unrealistic ideas are just wishful thinking. If I had such a powerful weapon, wouldn't it be better to just take a plane and leave this place?

I sat by the stream, fishing, pondering what to do next.

A rough outline has begun to emerge in my mind; now all I need to do is assemble their structure like drawing blueprints.

Then, if it can operate perfectly in all mechanical logic, a powerful weapon has theoretically been born.

I reasoned backward step by step that if I wanted to find suitable and easily obtainable bullets, I first had to eliminate firearms like shotgun shells.

My replacement type can only be arrows, which are more versatile cold weapons.

Since it's an arrow, it's a long-range, projectile-launched melee weapon, taking into account ammunition capacity and portability. While crossbow bolts are powerful, they aren't very portable, leaving little time for emergency situations.

Therefore, the target was narrowed down to only one: the blowgun. Its arrows are short, easy to carry, and quite accurate.

These short arrows are more advantageous for dealing with some emergencies. As for the lack of power, I decided to make up for it with poison, since poison is the least of our worries in the jungle.
