Surviving in the Wilderness: I Lived for 50 Years

An unusual experience made me realize the value of life, but by the time I looked back, I was already in my twilight years.

It seemed long, yet it passed in a flash.

Chapter 500...

At this moment, I don't know how to comfort Susu, nor do I know whether Dante and the others are alive or dead. So many people have died...

The next day, sunlight still shone through the ravaged cabins.

I felt the hard-won warmth of the sunshine, but I felt no excitement. We hadn't conquered nature; we were just a little luckier and hadn't been eliminated by the laws of nature.

Just then, a familiar, urgent voice came from behind.

"Susu! Xixi, where are you?"

Yesterday, Dante was hit by a giant wave, struck a wooden beam, and lost consciousness. He was fortunately swept to a corner by the water, which prevented him from falling into the water.

The first thing he did when he woke up today was to go find his wife and children.

Upon hearing that familiar voice, Su Su's eyes lit up instantly, and she ran towards the source of the sound while holding Qianqian in her arms.

When Sisi heard the voice, she called out "Dad!" and the family of three hugged each other tightly.

I felt relieved watching this scene, but unfortunately, not everyone was as lucky as Su Su and her family. Most families were broken, and some families even lost all their members in this disaster.

“It’s already daylight. I’ll go up to the deck and see how things are going.”

After saying that, we and some of our tribesmen arrived at a giant, sealed door, and the mechanical lock opened. As everyone pushed the giant door together, a sharp sizzle of sunlight pierced my eyes.

When I arrived on the deck, it was completely clean; all the soil, crops, and trees had disappeared.

The ark has returned to the state it was when it was first manufactured, before it was filled with soil or crops.

Now, however, it is covered in scars, with shocking holes on both sides of the ship, from which seawater constantly spills out as the ship rocks.

"Sir, look! Look what's over there!"

At that moment, Dante exclaimed in surprise, and everyone instinctively looked in the direction he was pointing. There, where a rainbow bridge appeared amidst rising steam, lay what seemed to be a gigantic black object.

Because it's quite far away, we don't know what place it is, but it looks like an island at first glance.

Our ark has no power to sail, so getting to that place is still quite difficult.

Then, perhaps by divine intervention, a sudden gust of wind arose. The ark, which had been anchored at this location, began to move slowly, heading towards the place that appeared to be an island.

"Weigh anchor! Weigh anchor now!"

At my command, dozens of tribesmen and Haru worked together to push the winch, and the underwater anchor began to be lifted up little by little.

The anchor detached from the seabed, and the ark's speed increased somewhat. However, even the strong winds could only barely propel the heavy ark across the water, at a speed comparable to that of paddling a canoe by hand.

That's enough, though. We don't expect to go any faster. As long as we reach that place that looks like land, we can anchor there and rest.

After a day and a night of sailing, our ship finally arrived at the island on the second day.

The coastline of the island was just like what we saw along the way: only bare rocks remained, with very little soil.

However, there are quite a few clams attached to these rocks near the water, indicating that they have been there for a long time and this should be an ancient coastline.

We anchored the ark 100 meters from the shore so that it wouldn't run aground if the tide went out.

There are also several wooden boats in the cargo hold. These were originally used for fishing, but they were left unattended in the cargo hold until now.

We brought our weapons and equipment, lowered the wooden boat from the deck, and more than twenty members climbed onto the boat using rope ladders.

Perhaps because of the recent disaster, nothing unusual happened along the way, and we landed smoothly.

After some investigation, it was confirmed to be an island. And it's quite large, with an estimated area of over 10,000 hectares.

The coastline was completely washed away by the power of the waves, leaving nothing but rocks.

However, in the heart of the island, there are still many coconut trees, as well as flowers and shrubs. This is probably thanks to the group of giant rocks that almost killed us; the rocks blocked the raging waves, thus preserving this rare piece of pristine land.

Our situation urgently requires recovery, so we won't linger any longer. Several wooden boats have begun transporting the people from the ark to the island, where the waves don't erode them, making it the best place for them to rest and recuperate.

Much of the supplies on the ark were washed away by the waves through those huge holes, but about 40% of the supplies remained, including precious crop seeds.

These seeds, intended as the seeds for the restart of civilization, have been specially treated and placed in a special sealed box. Even if they are soaked in water, the seeds inside will remain intact.

During the cleanup and inventory, we found that most of the seeds were not lost; what was lost was mainly our stored grain.

We even found more than a dozen surviving wild boars and deer in the cabin, which was an unexpected surprise.

Top's left arm was likely hit by a wave and is still somewhat restricted in its movement. However, this doesn't stop it from climbing trees and knocking coconuts down from them.

Pat remained lazily sunbathing on a tree branch, occasionally glancing at Top before returning to a meditative state.

…………

Time flies, and ten years have passed in the blink of an eye. Sisi has grown quite a bit taller, and I have now become a decrepit old man in my fifties.

After ten years of construction and renovation, the deserted island we came from is no more. It has been paved with stones and specially developed cement to create a hardened road surface.

There are some strange animals on the island that look like cows with heads like horses. They are larger than cows, have a gentle temperament, and are herbivores.

They were probably seeing us for the first time, but they didn't seem afraid and were quite interested in the crops we grew.

With minimal effort, we domesticated a group of animals we call cattle and horses using the food we had on hand; they looked remarkably like a combination of cattle and horses.

These oxen and horses work incredibly hard as long as they have food. After the island's roads were paved, these oxen and horses naturally became the main force behind the creation of wooden-wheeled animal-drawn carts.

The construction of the island is inseparable from the efforts of these oxen and horses, and the paved roads have further accelerated the pace of construction.

We now have a large grain planting base and an enclosed livestock area where wild boars and deer can roam freely and carefree on this land.

Dozens more small and medium-sized boats have appeared along the coast of the island, and our people sometimes use these boats to explore the local products of nearby islands.
