An unusual experience made me realize the value of life, but by the time I looked back, I was already in my twilight years.
It seemed long, yet it passed in a flash.
Bloodthirsty new cr...
Top seemed a little confused; it didn't know what was wrong with me. Was I sick?
After a long while, I let out a sigh of relief.
If Heaven wants to destroy me, what can I do?
I've resigned myself to my fate, no matter how unwilling I am to accept this fact. But it's already like this, and even if I were to hysterically scream here or jump off a cliff, I still wouldn't be able to change anything.
Fate, it's that damned fate again...
As I said, I am a person with a peaceful mind. Under no circumstances have I ever intended to harm my body.
I took out the sharp razor and made a small incision in the swollen area of my ankle. As I squeezed, the dark blood inside slowly drained out.
After squeezing for a while, all the dark blood was squeezed out, and the taut skin on my ankles loosened up considerably.
I moved my ankle around a bit, and it felt pretty good; it didn't seem as swollen and painful as before.
Looking at the monkey, a smile returned to my face, and I called out softly,
"Let's go, Top, let's go home."
...
The descent was uneventful, without any further attacks from wild animals. That night, Top and I spent the night near a cliff, where a nest of unidentified bird eggs became our dinner.
The next day we went down to the foot of that mountain.
When we passed the sugarcane field we had encountered earlier, I decided to collect some to take back. After all, it's not easy to come here, so I thought I'd bring back some local specialties from the east side of the lake.
Looking at all this familiar surroundings, I felt so warm and comforted. It was like a loving mother who had been with me for months. Whatever I wanted, she would try her best to fulfill my requests.
I washed my face by the water; the cool water splashed on my face, temporarily calming my chaotic mind.
Perhaps God didn't want to take me away so soon, because my foot stopped swelling after it came back.
For several days I could only lie in my shed, and when I was hungry I would have Top go to my warehouse to catch some dried fish and meat to cook and eat.
Top is also very obedient. Knowing that I can't climb trees, it will climb up the tree on its own at mealtimes to get the food for me.
Even when I was sleeping at night, it didn't go back to its own shed, but instead lay on the roof beam to keep me company.
Looking at this sensible monkey, I sometimes think that I'm not as unfortunate as I imagined. At least Robinson Crusoe didn't have such an obedient monkey.
The land I had previously cultivated, perhaps because of the wild vegetables, was neglected by me, but the dandelions and plantains there grew very well.
To prevent the wound from becoming infected and inflamed, I crushed the dandelions with gold leaf and applied it to my feet.
Surprisingly, this stuff works quite well. In just three days, the swelling in my ankle has gone down a lot.
However, I heard that the aftereffects of this venomous snake were quite severe, so I spent nearly half a month recuperating.
Aside from some bruising, there's nothing seriously wrong with the wound. I can still climb trees and jump around like before.
I ate all the sugarcane that Top and I brought back a long time ago. Now I'm going to go to that sugarcane field and harvest all the sugarcane.
I plan to cultivate two more plots of land, leave some sugarcane as seeds, and then plant them so I can get a continuous supply of sugar.
But before that, I need to make some more baskets and containers for holding liquids.
I used bamboo and willow branches to make the baskets, and I could forge the liquid containers with gold. Apart from being quite heavy, there were no other problems with them.
So, having plenty of time and no longer having to think about going to work, I started weaving baskets.
I wasn't in a hurry to use it, so I wove even more carefully than before. Gradually, my weaving skills improved, and the things I made became more exquisite and sturdy.
I spent a week weaving a large number of baskets. I collected and organized all the charcoal, hay, pine needles, and other materials in the shed using baskets.
It's very convenient; you can take it out and use it whenever you need it.
During this time, I also made several good large metal tanks, which could probably hold two or three hundred kilograms of liquid.
I have to say my skills are almost on par with those goldsmiths who make goldware.
That day, I was busy in my vegetable garden as usual, preparing to separate the dense dandelion plants so that they could grow stronger.
Top the monkey still manages to bring back some wild fruits every day, but recently he's been bringing back more nuts, including pine nuts and chestnuts.
I know about pine nuts, but I don't know where Top got the chestnuts from.
What surprised me even more was that Top, after such a long time, picked some of those black grapes again.
The grapes from last time were probably not ripe yet, so this time Top brought back the same variety, only this time they were larger and plumper.
I tried one and found that these grapes tasted pretty good.
Although they taste a little sour, it's quite remarkable that grapes grown in this natural environment can reach this level of quality.
That day I called Top, and we went together to the grape-growing area. The grape-growing area was behind a shady ridge on the west side. The wild grapes were growing very well, and the nearby trees served as natural trellises for them.
The grapes hang on these trees, which are several meters or even more than ten meters high. From a distance, they look like bunches of grapes growing on the trees.
Fortunately, Top was there to help. It was in charge of climbing the tree to pick the fruit, while I was in charge of carrying it on my back in a basket.
Considering the grapes couldn't withstand pressure, I stopped letting Top continue picking them. Otherwise, my basket might not be able to hold them all.
My purpose in coming here is the same as when I went to find sugarcane: to first scout out the area. When I have time, I'll prepare the appropriate ingredients, pack them, and then transport them back to my shed.
My plan is to first extract the sugarcane juice and then refine it into sugar for easy storage. Then, I'll harvest these fresh grapes directly and use the white bloom on the grapes as a natural yeast starter for fermentation, allowing anaerobic bacteria to develop.
Then, the dissolved sugar water can be used to continue catalyzing and cultivating grapes containing anaerobic bacteria. The resulting wine will not only be free of astringency but also have a mellow taste, and the alcohol content can be controlled by the user.
After we got back, I started preparing to make another tool, a juicer for pressing sugarcane.
My plan for this is quite simple. I already have a few decent large gold jars. All I need to do is cut down a poplar tree of suitable size to make a pounding mallet and pound out the sap.
