Chapter 2 The Secret of the Meteorite

The hallway was filled with hurried and noisy footsteps, and the rumbling sounds outside were constant!

Leng Fengmei struggled to move to the door, but the door closed due to the force of the impact. Her numb lower body felt paralyzed, and her arms couldn't support her heavy body at all!

I don't know how my child is doing. The intense exercise has made breathing even more difficult!

This feels like being a stranded fish; my back is so painful it's numb, and my heart feels ice-cold.

She couldn't help but laugh at herself, thinking, "Life is just like this. If you're so capable, make it even harder for me!"

With a loud "boom", the building shook.

Holy crap! I was just saying, I can't die, I still have two kids to raise!

Knock knock knock!

"Open the door! Hurry, I'll carry you down!" came Dad's anxious voice.

"Where is the child?" Leng Fengmei demanded loudly.

At the same time, he tried hard to reach the doorknob, his face turning red from the effort!

I cannot die. Perhaps it was my strong will that made the door—finally open.

Leng Fengmei was in excruciating pain, but she couldn't care less about herself.

Looking at Song Chengyang anxiously, she asked, "What happened to Xin Xin? Where are they?"

"I'm so scared! Let's go! The building across the street has collapsed. There are so many meteorites! Hurry, let's find a place to hide. It's not safe here!" Song Chengyang said incoherently as he helped her up.

Leng Fengmei supported the man with one hand and held onto the stair railing with the other. Her two numb legs dragged on the ground, and her slippers fell off. At this moment, she hated her body!

Seeing Song Chengyang risk his life to come back and save her, it was impossible not to be moved, but she was more worried about the child!

Leng Fengmei was so exhausted from walking just a few steps that she had no strength left in her body, and her arms were trembling uncontrollably!

"Mei, sit down and wait for me!" After saying that, he ran back.

A short while later, they brought her shoes to change into, and then helped her up to continue downstairs.

This man is usually so sullen it's infuriating, but when he gets serious, he can truly move you. Thinking of Leng Fengmei, her dry eyes stung with tears.

Through the stairwell window, the outside was a scene of utter devastation; the buildings opposite had been completely crushed, and dust was flying everywhere.

I guess only the two of them are left on the third floor!

He was helped up to the second floor with a "humming" sound, but there was no one there!

Everyone ran outside, fearing the building would collapse. Only a few neighbors remained on the first floor. No one spoke; everyone stared outside in terror.

Hanhan held her younger sister tightly, remembering her father's words: "If you feel danger, take your sister and run outside!"

Xin Xin turned around and saw her father supporting her mother. She excitedly shouted, "Mom, are you alright?!"

Leng Fengmei shook her head, forcing back her tears: "Mom is fine."

Seeing that the children were all safe and sound, I finally felt relieved.

"Go over there!" Leng Fengmei gestured for her father to move forward.

Outside, a few meteorites are falling sporadically, not as frequently as before; perhaps it's about to stop.

Leng Fengmei prayed sincerely: "May this disaster pass quickly!"

I would give up 100 pounds of my own body for everyone's safety!

After what seemed like an eternity, the pain gradually subsided, and I felt my legs slowly regaining sensation—they were no longer so stiff!

As Leng Fengmei tentatively moved around, she felt a warm current flow through her entire body, and her breathing became smooth!

I couldn't help but feel secretly pleased, thinking that I had just touched a nerve and it was already healed so quickly!

So she slowly stood up, leaning against the wall, thinking, "My leg... is... okay?"

I'm really healed!!!

A smile unconsciously crept onto my face; this feeling of having something lost and then regained is just too damn good!

It seems my wish might really have come true. I thought to myself, God, please don't forget to take some of my flesh away, even if it's a little more, it's okay!

So everyone stood against the wall, afraid of being hit by the meteorite. If the building collapsed, they would still have a chance to escape.

When Song Chengyang turned around, he saw Leng Fengmei standing there. "Are you alright?" His tone was filled with undisguised joy.

"Okay, I'm all better now." As she spoke, she looked at the half of the building across the street that had been destroyed, feeling a pang of sadness. She wondered how the people were doing.

The crisis finally ended, and the people who had been hiding emerged from their various secluded corners.

Leng Fengmei walked towards the green belt, where there was a meteorite taller than a person.

She reached out and touched it; it was warm, nothing special. This was the temperature after burning. The surface was uneven, and she had no idea where it came from.

I checked my phone and it had no signal, let alone data. I figured it must have been smashed!

"Is this going to be the end of the world?!"

The speaker was the bald man from Unit 5, around fifty years old, with broad shoulders and a thick waist. His voice could be heard from two miles away, and everyone called him "Big Voice" behind his back.

"If we're going to die, we'll die together. So what if it's the end of the world!"

A thin old man took a puff of his cigarette and said nonchalantly.

Leng Fengmei brought her two children to look at meteorites. Xiao Bao picked up a fist-sized stone and said, "Mom, look, doesn't this look like a big frozen pear?"

"Yes, it really looks like him!" Leng Fengmei said with a smile, patting Xiaobao's head.

"Come on, little sister, let's go see if there are any bigger ones over there!" Hanhan said happily, taking her little sister's hand.

Leng Fengmei thought to herself that he was still a child who hadn't grown up. He was already sixteen, but he was still heartless!

Seeing them getting closer and closer to the dilapidated building, she hurriedly warned them, "You two stay away from that tall building, or you'll get crushed if it collapses!"

"Okay, Mom!" Hanhan said loudly, then took her younger sister and walked away a little further away.

Watching the two children walk away, she was still a little worried and hurried a few steps to catch up. Suddenly, she felt the warm current in her body disappear. Leng Fengmei, always meticulous, couldn't help but think carefully—could it be…?
