Chapter 88 Falling Victim

"Ah! Help...!"

The man in her arms struggled desperately!

"Shut up! If you keep making noise, I'll feed you bugs!"

Leng Fengmei's cold words finally stopped the annoying noise.

Jack thought he was going to die this time, because those carrion worms could spit out a liquid similar to anesthesia, which could instantly render a person unable to move. Hearing the woman's scolding voice, he finally came out of his fear and quickly shut his mouth. He didn't want to die!

Seeing the crowd running at breakneck speed ahead, Leng Fengmei darted towards a building on her right!

She realized that these insects were extremely sensitive to smells, so she had to lure them away herself. Therefore, she didn't run too fast and put the person down as soon as she entered the building. "Hurry upstairs!" Leng Fengmei said in a deep voice.

Before Jack could even thank them, he heard the sound of carrion worms gnawing on the door outside, which terrified him so much that he quickly ran upstairs!

Leng Fengmei scanned the area with her divine sense and found that these mutated beetles had indeed followed her. However, the sound of them scratching at the iron gate was particularly jarring. She quickly headed upstairs, but unexpectedly, the glass in the stairwell shattered with a crash, and the mutated beetles squeezed in in groups of three or five!

Before they even landed, he swung his sword and slashed at them. At the same time, he scanned the window with his divine sense to see if they would climb the wall, in case he was surrounded!

It was quite a sight to behold. These insects, each the size of a cushion, had surrounded half of the building, piling up together before crawling in through the window. They were really going all out for such a small amount of food!

Several mutated beetles climbed up the wall, but fell down after only a few steps. I breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, they didn't have the ability to climb walls.

With a swift stroke, Leng Fengmei cleaved the insects in two as soon as they poked their heads out, also picking out a few crystal cores along the way. However, these crystal cores were very small, about the size of a quail egg, and their effects were unknown...

While thinking, her hands didn't slow down at all. In no time, the pile around her was as big as a mountain. Just as she was thinking that it would be difficult for the insects to get in once it was full, she saw the pile of insects slowly descending. Leng Fengmei quickly stopped digging for crystal cores...

Then she saw a mutated insect crawl over from the pile of insects, chewing on the corpse of its own kind. Leng Fengmei's mouth twitched as she watched. In that moment of panic, she saw the insect spit out a foul-smelling liquid mixed with fragments of limbs.

Although she dodged in time, some of the toxin still got on her left hand. In an instant, she realized something was wrong—her entire hand was slowly going numb, and the toxin was slowly spreading up her arm. She quickly turned and ran upstairs!

Using his good right hand, he placed the backpack on his chest and ran upstairs, rummaging through the room to see if there were any crystals that could detoxify him.

Luckily, I was well prepared. An ant crystal appeared in front of me, and I quickly stuffed it into my mouth. I remember being in the same state when I was bitten by an ant!

Jack hadn't gone far when he heard footsteps downstairs, so he waited there for a while, wanting to thank the woman who had saved him.

But when he saw that the woman's face was abnormal and one of her arms was stiff, he knew that she must have been infected.

Leng Fengmei hadn't expected this toxin to be so potent. Eating a few ant crystals only controlled the spread of the toxin, but it couldn't cure her!

Just as she was thinking of summoning her idol to take her away from here, she saw the man she had saved at the corner—looking at her in surprise!

I couldn't help feeling a little nervous, as this was the first time since the apocalypse that I had faced a stranger in such a weakened state!

"What are you looking at? If you don't want to die, hide!" she said as she walked towards the window upstairs, trying to summon her idol to take her away!

"Are you injured?" Jack asked hurriedly.

Leng Fengmei gave them a cold look and said, "You'd better take care of yourself!"

"I know how to save you!" Jack looked at the woman who had just saved him but was now acting fiercely, puzzled, but still said quickly.

Leng Fengmei then took a proper look at him and felt that he didn't have any unpleasant aura. She was slightly relieved. She thought that since she had come all this way to follow her idol, she might not be able to get treatment even if she went back in her current state, and besides, the journey was long!

"How to treat it?" In the short time it took to speak, Leng Fengmei felt half of her body go numb and couldn't help but fall down!

Jack suddenly lunged at it, startling it so much that it nearly killed him with a single slash. But seeing that he only wanted to steady itself, it awkwardly withdrew its knife, saying, "I'm sorry, I thought you..."

Jack was also helpless. "If you're so afraid of me, why did you save me in the first place?"

"When did I say I was afraid of you!" Leng Fengmei didn't understand the foreigner's thought process. She said in a deliberately cold voice.

Jack didn't want to argue with the woman; he knew she was very defensive. But she still kindly saved him. However, the world doesn't allow people to be too kind. Just like his companions, when disaster strikes, who doesn't only care about themselves?

"Didn't you say you knew how to save me? Then hurry up!" Leng Fengmei felt like her whole body was about to go numb!

"I'll take you upstairs!" Seeing that she didn't object, Jack scooped her up in his arms. The knife in Leng Fengmei's hand had somehow slipped from her grasp and fallen to the ground. She struggled to maintain a semblance of clarity in her mind; this feeling of being unable to control herself was awful.

Jack felt the woman in his arms gradually losing consciousness, so he quickened his pace and finally saw a door open. He rushed in, gently placed the woman on the bed, turned back to close the door, and even found some old clothes and sheets to cover it up!

Leng Fengmei felt her vision becoming increasingly blurry and her mind becoming increasingly unclear.
