Seven years ago, timeline.
Fujiwara Yu was diligently searching for the Child of Destiny named "Edogawa Conan," believing that only by finding him could he gain permanent residency in...
The ornaments above the shoe cabinet were covered in dust, and even the landline phone had oil stains that had not been wiped clean.
There were several garbage bags piled up next to the TV in the living room that had not been thrown away in time. There was even a strange smell wafting out of them, which was probably the smell of kitchen waste fermenting in the bags.
What Fujiwara Yu could not accept the most was that there were a lot of miscellaneous items piled on the sofa, and there was also a bag of opened potato chips thrown on it. It would have been fine if the crumbs fell between the gaps in the wooden floor, but he could actually see a piece of ramen that had been flattened on the sofa.
He stood beside the sofa with a look of disgust on his face and was unwilling to sit down. Otaki Goro, who did not have mysophobia, also fell silent when he saw this scene.
Although it's not nice to ask while standing, you can't just sit on a sofa that's like a toilet, right? Even if your butt accepts it, his trousers won't accept it.
A book friend I've known for ten years recommended Yeguo Reading to me. It's so damn useful! I use it to pass the time, even while driving or before bed, listening to books aloud. You can download it here.yeguoyuedu
"Huh? Why don't you two officers sit down?" Otsuka Shinji, who had no tact at all, looked at the two officers who were standing as if they were being punished, with confusion. However, he sat on the sofa very naturally, and positioned himself very accurately on the ramen that was actually very flat.
The ramen is even flatter.
Otaki Goro tried hard to pull the corners of his mouth to make his expression less awkward. He took out the police notebook and said bluntly:
"Mr. Otsuka, we're here to inform you of something... Your ex-wife was murdered at home yesterday. I'd like to know if you know who she had a feud with."
Upon hearing this, Otsuka Shinji leaped from the sofa like a monkey, startling both men so much that they nearly lost control of their revolvers. Especially when Otsuka Shinji indulged himself in the "performance art" that comes with the murder of his ex-wife, both men read two words in each other's eyes: speechless.
His hands were shaking like a sieve, but he could still maintain the same frequency on both sides. His acting was not realistic at all.
"Su, Suozi, she...Suozi is dead? Are you guys kidding me?"
"We, the police, certainly wouldn't play such a vulgar joke on you. Your ex-wife, Ms. Akashi Hoko, has indeed passed away. Please accept our condolences." Fujiwara Yuu's tone was stiff, almost unwilling to continue acting. He stared straight at Otsuka Shinji and said, "Mr. Otsuka, could you please tell me where you were and what you were doing between 11 PM last night and 2 AM this morning?"
The sudden change made Otsuka Shinji alert. He pushed his glasses up with a wry smile and asked:
"Mr. Officer, didn't you ask me if Suizi had any enemies? Why are you asking this all of a sudden?"
"Don't worry, Mr. Otsuka. I'm just asking for your alibi. I don't consider you a suspect."
"I put my son to bed early last night. He's only seven. I couldn't possibly go out in the middle of the night and leave him at home, could I? If you don't believe me, I can let my son testify for me."
Fujiwara Yuu was about to say that the testimony of relatives could not prove his alibi, but Otaki Goro reached out and poked him twice in the back, signaling him to be quiet, and then asked:
"Then could you please ask your child to testify for you? Honestly, I saw your son in a photo, and he's inherited all of your good looks. He's sure to be a healthy and handsome young man in the future!"
"Hahahaha, thank you for the compliment, Officer. I'll call him down right away."
When Otsuka Shinji went upstairs, Fujiwara Yuu frowned and looked at Officer Otaki in confusion, not understanding why he was doing this. It was obvious that he was not good at socializing with people, and did not know how to use flattering words to make the suspect relax his vigilance and find a breakthrough.
"Otaki-senpai, you should know that the testimony of relatives cannot be used, right? And he knew we were the police from the beginning, which means he already knew that the police would come to his house after his ex-wife's death."
Otaki Goro smiled and patted Takashi Sosuke's shoulder, saying earnestly:
"Takashi, you may be very capable at handling cases, but you need to be tactful when talking to suspects. And children aren't good at perjury; there are only breakthroughs when there are flaws. Also, remember not to let your emotions get the better of you."
"I'm not being sentimental, am I?"
"What if Ms. Mari is lying? You ruled her out from the list of suspects from the beginning, didn't you?" Ōtaki Goro noticed Sosuke Takashi's surprised expression. Recalling past cases, he smiled wryly and said, "It's hard to read people's minds. You might encounter cases that leave you feeling lost in the future. So, don't get too emotionally involved in a case, or else you'll end up being the one hurt and unable to move on."
Many police officers will develop nightmares because of a brutal case, and many police officers will become suspicious of an unbelievable murderer. In serious cases, they will trap themselves in the same place and can never break free.
It's not like Goro Otaki hadn't seen this before. A close friend of his in the police academy fell into deep confusion after personally arresting someone he trusted, so much so that he gradually took off his police uniform and ruined his good life.
He didn't want to see the younger generation he admired follow in the footsteps of his best friend.
Fujiwara Yu took all these words to heart but did not answer. He looked up at the stairs where the footsteps came from. When he saw Akashi Shinji quickly avoid his sight, he realized that something must have happened during the few minutes that Otsuka Shinji went upstairs.
