Chapter Fifteen

"Teacher, you can go about your business now. I'll stay in the library and continue reading." Wu Yu saw that he didn't need to bother the teacher anymore and didn't want to waste the teacher's precious time.

"Aren't you going back to class? The next class is taught by another teacher, and they are more responsible than I am. If you go back, you can still learn something," the teacher reminded her.

"No need. I'll only be there for the first class to see how you teach. If I were to actually learn there, I wouldn't understand a single word. After all, today is my first time encountering magic. Let's talk about classes after I've finished learning the basics on my own," Wu Yu waved his hand and sighed.

It wasn't that Wu Yu wanted to embarrass him, but mainly that it was impossible for an elementary school student to learn anything from attending a university lecture.

"Okay, you wait here. I'll go pick out some basic textbooks for you. Once you've read them, you should be able to keep up." For students who genuinely want to learn, teachers will not give up on them, regardless of their aptitude.

"Thank you." This teacher seems to be quite considerate of me, but why can't she be a little more patient with the other students? Perhaps most people are not interested in studying, but there are always a few promising talents. It's not right to dismiss them all.

Not long after, the teacher came to Wu Yu with several books as thick as the Xinhua Dictionary, which made Wu Yu look at them in a daze. Does it have to be this complicated to get started?

"Detailed Explanation of Magic Tricks," "Detailed Explanation of First-Order Magic," "The Science of Magic Flow," and "On the Connection Between Magic and Spiritual Power"

The name wasn't imposing at all, but it suited Wu Yu's needs.

"By the way, you're a temporary student. Do you know about our school's tradition?" the teacher suddenly asked, as if remembering something.

"I don't know." Wu Yu said confidently without even thinking. Apart from the name, he knew absolutely nothing about this school.

"One month after enrollment, our school will hold an entrance simulation exercise, using a two-on-one elimination system with random draws," the teacher said.

"Oh? Freshmen are already competing right after enrollment? Is it really necessary to be so diligent? Isn't your school known for its easy graduation?" Wu Yu complained.

"The college is ultimately a place for teaching and nurturing students. We are not doing nothing. This entrance test is specifically prepared for those students who are not good at teaching."

"Before they give up on themselves, the academy hopes to inspire them. Whether it's the determination to improve after a defeat or the confidence gained from defeating those geniuses before the gap widens, these should motivate them to work hard for a while. The only advantage those 'trash' have is that they're not afraid of setbacks." The teacher revealed the academy's underlying intentions.

"That's pretty good, but teacher, is there some other purpose in telling me all this?" Wu Yu could tell that the other person still had something to say.

"That's right, I hope you will work hard and win first place in this competition." The teacher finally revealed his purpose.

"Oh, you think so highly of me?" Wu Yu asked with a smile, without directly saying that he couldn't do it.

"Since you cultivate both battle aura and magic, you should know very well that low-level mages are powerless against warriors. Although the use of powers other than magic is prohibited, it is not difficult for you to defeat low-level mages with your physical strength. The only ones you need to be careful of are the three who have reached the third level, but I will teach you how to defeat them."

The teacher said with a sneer. Just thinking about Wu Yu's status as a first-tier warrior, he could already foresee the scene of those pampered noble children being beaten to a pulp.

"But what good will that do for you and me?" Wu Yu wouldn't lose his composure just because someone flattered him.

“You’re someone who wants to learn real skills, and demonstrating your abilities will help you acquire more resources. I, on the other hand, hope that you can set an example for the class. Originally, I planned to use insults to provoke the students’ resistance after they were all eliminated, but with you here, perhaps I can use some gentler methods.”

The teacher did not seem to regard Wu Yu simply as a student; he chose to be honest with Wu Yu about many things.

"You really went to great lengths." Wu Yu's words were neither praise nor criticism. He glanced at the several large books stacked in front of him and finally said helplessly, "I agree. What can I do? I'm a good student who never refuses a teacher's request."

······

Wu Yu spent most of the day in the library, but he didn't even turn to one of the four basic textbooks. After the teacher left, his first choice was to find some encyclopedia-like books. Compared to magic, he wanted to fill in his lack of common sense first.

However, when leaving the academy, Wu Yu still took those four books with him. He still had to study them when he got home. Is this the lifestyle of a bookworm? He never thought he would become the kind of person he used to hate the most.

"Heave-ho, heave-ho."

As Wu Yu walked along the road, he was still thinking about what kind of cool pose he would use to bully the kids during the live-fire exercise when he suddenly saw an acquaintance.

There was a flower shop that Wu Yu had never paid attention to before. All kinds of plants were displayed outside the shop, and the colorful flowers did not distract him for a moment. However, the girl whose clothes and hairstyle had not changed evoked Wu Yu's memory. His gaze was immediately fixed on the girl who was moving flower pots.

Although they weren't exactly friends, they were at least acquaintances, and it wouldn't be appropriate to pretend not to see her. Considering he'd likely have to deal with her again in the future, Wu Yu had no choice but to go over and greet her.

"What a coincidence! I remember your name is Virginia, right? Are you working here?"
