Chapter Four: The Challenge

"By the way, what do you saintesses do every day? You seem to have a lot of free time," Wu Yu asked in a provocative tone.

Although his dissatisfaction played a significant role, Wu Yu's actions were ultimately aimed at gathering intelligence. Whether he could regain his left hand depended entirely on the Church of Light, and it was essential to plan ahead for such an important matter.

“Every morning I have to get up and pray in front of the idol for half an hour. To show my respect for God, I can’t move at all. It’s really tough.” Virginia emphasized this as if she had done something amazing.

However, Wu Yu couldn't stand these words at all. He sneered and said, "So being a saintess is that easy? By the way, I can also stand still for half an hour, so can I apply to be a saintess?"

"Sir, do you also wish to become a saintess? However, a denomination can only have one saintess at a time. If you were to come, I would no longer be able to remain in the Church of Light."

"Hmm, this is so troubling. Should I take the initiative to retire and clear the way for Mr. Wu to become the Holy Maiden?" Virginia actually thought seriously about Wu Yu's question, and even got caught up in the dilemma because of it.

"Hey, hey, hey, I was just joking, don't take it seriously. If your parents find out, they'll kill me." Wu Yu quickly stopped the other person's dangerous thoughts.

"So you were just joking, sir? That's not a good habit. If it's misunderstood, it can easily cause conflict." Without the trouble Wu Yu had caused her, Virginia started lecturing again.

"No one else in this world would take those words seriously except you!" Wu Yu roared inwardly, but this time he dared not reply. It wasn't just that he was bad at dealing with this guy; he simply couldn't understand his way of thinking.

As soon as Wu Yu stopped talking, Virginia stopped engaging him in conversation and started urging passersby to listen to Phillis's speech.

Wu Yu stepped aside and whispered to Eugene, "Do you think she's deliberately teasing me? Even an abnormal person wouldn't give up their position to a stranger."

“It would be impossible for anyone else, but she is the only exception,” Eugene said helplessly.

"She is revered as the 'Saintess of Heaven,' and behind her back, people even jokingly call her the 'Wish-Granting Human.' She will lend a helping hand to everyone who asks for help, and she will never refuse anyone's request. She fulfills all people's fantasies about a saintess. This is the most popular girl in the capital, the Saintess of Light—Virginia Hill."

Even a seemingly unconventional rich kid like Eugene showed great respect when seriously evaluating Virginia.

"How could such a person exist?" Wu Yu exclaimed.

“It didn’t exist in the past, and it probably won’t exist again, but right now it truly exists right before your eyes,” Eugene exclaimed.

"What if the demands exceed her capabilities?" Wu Yu was still somewhat skeptical.

"Who knows?" Eugene shrugged, indicating that he didn't know either. "Alright, didn't you want to see Princess Phillis? She's been giving speeches around here every day lately. We'll be there in a little while."

"No need." Just when he was about to succeed, Wu Yu backed down. "I suddenly remembered that I have other important matters to attend to. Let's put the meeting with Phillis aside for now."

What changed Wu Yu's mind was the promotional content he had just seen on the flyer.

A bid for the throne?

Wu Yu thought it was just a rash decision she made on impulse, but she actually put it into practice.

Although Wu Yu didn't know Phillis well, he knew that competing for the throne was by no means an easy task; that position was not something that someone without any ability could sit in.

The blueprint that Philliss outlined back then was indeed good, but it was entirely based on the premise that Wu Yu had an invincible enemy. If it were just Philliss, not that Wu Yu looked down on her, but she would just be playing house here.

Wu Yu didn't come here to help; he came specifically to seek refuge. However, he discovered that the person who could protect him was playing with fire. To avoid getting burned, Wu Yu decided it was better to stay far away.

"Wu Yu!" But before Wu Yu could put his plan to sneak away into action, a female voice, filled with joy far exceeding surprise, rang out.

Wu Yu froze, turned his head, and saw a girl wearing a crown running towards him, carrying her princess dress.

Even disregarding her distinctive clothing, Wu Yu would have been perfectly able to recognize her based solely on her stunningly beautiful face.

As soon as Phillis rushed over, as if afraid that Wu Yu would run away, she grabbed Wu Yu's empty sleeve and, just like last time, disregarded the difference between men and women, bringing her face close and staring at Wu Yu excitedly, shouting, "It really is Wu Yu! I've been dreaming of seeing you, and I never thought my dream would come true this time. This must be the grace of the God of Light."

Who is the God of Light? I don't even know Him, okay? Don't try to explain my actions with such a ridiculous reason.

While mentally complaining, Wu Yu carefully observed the girl whose heart was racing because they were so close.

His golden eyes shone with the same adoration as before, and his gestures of closeness were similar. But my esteemed princess, can't you consider your status and the occasion? This isn't some desolate desert like last time; this is a bustling public square!
